| 11for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. | 11Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord. |

| 13And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, | 13Suddenly a vast, heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, |
| 14"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased." | 14"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!" |
| 15When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." | 15When the angels left them and went back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, that the Lord has made known to us." |

| 17When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. | 17When they saw him, they related what they had been told about this child, |

| 24and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, "A PAIR OF TURTLEDOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS." | 24and to offer a sacrifice according to what is specified in the law of the Lord, a pair of doves or two young pigeons. |
| 25And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. | 25Now there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon who was righteous and devout, looking for the restoration of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. |
| 26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. | 26It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. |

| 33And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him. | 33So the child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about him. |
| 34And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed-- | 34Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, "Listen carefully: This child is destined to be the cause of the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be rejected. |
| 35and a sword will pierce even your own soul-- to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed." | 35Indeed, as a result of him the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed--and a sword will pierce your own soul as well!" |
| 36And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, | 36There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, having been married to her husband for seven years until his death. |
| 37and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. | 37She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years. She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. |
| 38At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. | 38At that moment, she came up to them and began to give thanks to God and to speak about the child to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. |
| 39When they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth. | 39So when Joseph and Mary had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. |

| 51And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. | 51Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. But his mother kept all these things in her heart. |
| 52And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. | 52And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with people. |
