Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. | 1Praise the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are magnificent. You are robed in splendor and majesty. |
Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: | 2He covers himself with light as if it were a garment. He stretches out the skies like a tent curtain, |
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind: | 3and lays the beams of the upper rooms of his palace on the rain clouds. He makes the clouds his chariot, and travels along on the wings of the wind. |
Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: | 4He makes the winds his messengers, and the flaming fire his attendant. |
Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. | 5He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be upended. |
Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. | 6The watery deep covered it like a garment; the waters reached above the mountains. |
At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. | 7Your shout made the waters retreat; at the sound of your thunderous voice they hurried off-- |
They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. | 8as the mountains rose up, and the valleys went down--to the place you appointed for them. |
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth. | 9You set up a boundary for them that they could not cross, so that they would not cover the earth again. |
He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. | 10He turns springs into streams; they flow between the mountains. |
They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. | 11They provide water for all the animals in the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. | 12The birds of the sky live beside them; they chirp among the bushes. |
He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. | 13He waters the mountains from the upper rooms of his palace; the earth is full of the fruit you cause to grow. |
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; | 14He provides grass for the cattle, and crops for people to cultivate, so they can produce food from the ground, |
And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart. | 15as well as wine that makes people feel so good, and so they can have oil to make their faces shine, as well as food that sustains people's lives. |
The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; | 16The trees of the LORD receive all the rain they need, the cedars of Lebanon which he planted, |
Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house. | 17where the birds make nests, near the evergreens in which the herons live. |
The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies. | 18The wild goats live in the high mountains; the rock badgers find safety in the cliffs. |
He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down. | 19He made the moon to mark the months, and the sun sets according to a regular schedule. |
Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth. | 20You make it dark and night comes, during which all the beasts of the forest prowl around. |
The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God. | 21The lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God. |
The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens. | 22When the sun rises, they withdraw and sleep in their dens. |
Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening. | 23Men then go out to do their work, and labor away until evening. |
O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. | 24How many living things you have made, O LORD! You have exhibited great skill in making all of them; the earth is full of the living things you have made. |
So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. | 25Over here is the deep, wide sea, which teems with innumerable swimming creatures, living things both small and large. |
There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. | 26The ships travel there, and over here swims the whale you made to play in it. |
These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. | 27All of your creatures wait for you to provide them with food on a regular basis. |
That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. | 28You give food to them and they receive it; you open your hand and they are filled with food. |
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. | 29When you ignore them, they panic. When you take away their life's breath, they die and return to dust. |
Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. | 30When you send your life-giving breath, they are created, and you replenish the surface of the ground. |
The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works. | 31May the splendor of the LORD endure! May the LORD find pleasure in the living things he has made! |
He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke. | 32He looks down on the earth and it shakes; he touches the mountains and they start to smolder. |
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. | 33I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God as long as I exist! |
My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. | 34May my thoughts be pleasing to him! I will rejoice in the LORD. |
Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD. | 35May sinners disappear from the earth, and the wicked vanish! Praise the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD! |
