Psalm 89
ISV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew International Version
I will sing forever about the gracious love of the LORD; from generation to generation I will declare your faithfulness with my mouth.1A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
I will declare that your gracious love was established forever; in the heavens itself, you have established your faithfulness.2I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise to David, my servant.3You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,
"I will establish your dynasty forever, and I will lift up one who will build your throne from generation to generation." Interlude4I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.'"
Even the heavens praise your awesome deeds, LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.5The heavens praise your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies compares to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the divine beings?6For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?
God is feared in the council of the holy ones, revered by all those around him.7In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him.
LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, who is as mighty as you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you.8Who is like you, LORD God Almighty? You, LORD, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule over the majestic sea; when its waves surge, you calm them.9You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.
You crushed the proud one to death; with your powerful arm you scattered your enemies.10You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies.
Heaven and the earth belong to you, the world and everything it contains— you established them.11The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.
The north and south—you created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.12You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name.
Your arm is strong; your hand is mighty; indeed, your right hand is victorious. 13Your arm is endowed with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.
Righteousness and justice make up the foundation of your throne; gracious love and truth meet before you.14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.
How happy are the people who can worship joyfully! LORD, they walk in the light of your presence.15Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
In your name they rejoice all day long; they exult in your justice. 16They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.
For you are their strength's grandeur; by your favor you exalted our power. 17For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.
Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.18Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
You spoke to your faithful ones through a vision: "I will set a helper over a warrior. I will raise up a chosen one from the people.19Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people.
I have found my servant David; I have anointed him with my sacred oil,20I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
with whom my power will be firmly established; for my arm will strengthen him.21My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.
No enemy will deceive him; no wicked person will afflict him.22The enemy will not get the better of him; the wicked will not oppress him.
I will crush his enemies before him and strike those who hate him.23I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries.
My faithfulness and gracious love will be with him, and in my name his power will be exalted.24My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
I will place his hand over the sea, and his right hand over the rivers.25I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.
He will announce to me 'You are my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.'26He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.'
"Indeed, I myself made him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.27And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.
I will show my gracious love toward him forever, since my covenant is securely established with him.28I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail.
I will establish his dynasty forever, and his throne as long as heaven endures. 29I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.
"But if his sons abandon my laws and do not follow my ordinances,30"If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes,
if they profane my statutes; and do not keep my commands,31if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands,
then I will punish their disobedience with a rod and their iniquity with lashes.32I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging;
But I will not cut off my gracious love from him, and I will not stop being faithful.33but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
I will not dishonor my covenant, because I will not change what I have spoken. 34I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.
I have sworn by my holiness once for all: I will not lie to David.35Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness-- and I will not lie to David--
His dynasty will last forever and his throne will be like the sun before me.36that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;
It will be established forever like the moon, a faithful witness in the sky." Interlude37it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky."
But you have spurned, rejected, and became angry with your anointed one.38But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one.
You have dishonored the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown on the ground.39You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust.
You have broken through all his walls; you have laid his fortresses in ruin.40You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins.
All who pass by on their way plunder him; he has become a reproach to his neighbors.41All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.
You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; you have caused all of his enemies to rejoice.42You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
Moreover, you have turned back the edge of his sword and did not support him in battle.43Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle.
You have caused his splendor to cease and cast down his throne to the ground.44You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground.
You have caused the days of his youth to be cut short; you have covered him with shame. Interlude45You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame.
How long, LORD, will you hide yourself? Forever? Will your anger continuously burn like fire?46How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Remember how short my lifetime is! How powerless have you created all human beings! 47Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all humanity!
What valiant man can live and not see death? Who can deliver himself from the power of Sheol. Interlude48Who can live and not see death, or who can escape the power of the grave?
Where is your gracious love of old, Lord, that in your faithfulness you promised to David?49Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servant! I carry inside me all the insults of many people,50Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
when your enemies reproached you, LORD, when they reproached the footsteps of your anointed.51the taunts with which your enemies, LORD, have mocked, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.
Blessed is the LORD forever! Amen and amen!52Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
