Moses Consecrates Aaron and His Sons 1And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and a bull as the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of the unleavened bread; 3and assemble all the congregation at the door of the Tent of Meeting.” 4And Moses did as YHWH commanded him, and the congregation was gathered together at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 5And Moses said to the congregation, “This is the thing that YHWH commanded to be done.” 6And Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with the water, 7and he put the tunic on him, and girded him with the sash, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod on him, and girded him with the waistband of the ephod, and tied it on him with it. 8And he put on him the breastplate, and he put in the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim.† 9And he put the turban on his head, and he put on the turban, on the front, the golden plate, the holy diadem, as YHWH had commanded Moses. 10And Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. 11And He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times and anointed the altar and all its vessels and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them. 12And he poured some of the anointing oil on the head of Aaron and anointed him to consecrate him. 13And Moses brought the sons of Aaron, and put on them tunics, and girded them with sashes, and put on them headbands, as YHWH had commanded Moses. The Priests’ Sin Offering 14And he brought the bull for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the sin offering. 15And he killed it, and Moses took the blood, and he put it on the horns of the altar all around with his finger, and he purified the altar, and he poured the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it to make atonement upon it. 16And he took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat, and Moses burned them on the altar. 17And the bull and its hide and its flesh and its dung, he burned with the fire outside the camp, as YHWH had commanded Moses. The Priests’ Burnt Offering 18And he brought the ram of the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 19And he killed it, and Moses sprinkled the blood on the altar all around. 20And he cut the ram into pieces, and Moses burned the head and the pieces and the fat. 21And the entrails and the legs he washed in the water, and Moses burned the whole ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a pleasing aroma; it was a fire offering to YHWH, as YHWH had commanded Moses. The Ram of Ordination 22And he brought the second ram, the ram of the ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 23And he killed it, and Moses took some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 24And he brought near the sons of Aaron, and Moses put some of the blood on the tips of their right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. And Moses sprinkled the blood on the altar all around. 25And he took the fat, and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat, and the right thigh. 26And from the basket of the unleavened bread that was before YHWH he took one unleavened cake, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, and put them on the fat and on the right thigh. 27And he put all these in the hands of Aaron and in the hands of his sons, and he waved them as a wave offering before the face of YHWH. 28And Moses took them from their hands and burned them on the altar on the burnt offering. They were ordination offerings for a pleasing aroma; it was a fire offering to YHWH. 29And Moses took the breast and waved it as a wave offering before the face of YHWH. From the ram of ordination it was unto Moses for a portion, as YHWH had commanded Moses. 30And Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar, and sprinkled it on Aaron, on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him. And he consecrated Aaron, his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him. 31And Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the flesh at the door of the Tent of Meeting, and eat it there, and with it the bread that is in the basket of ordination offerings, as I commanded, saying, ‘Aaron and his sons shall eat it.’ 32And the remainder of the flesh and of the bread you⁺ shall burn with the fire. 33And you⁺ shall not go outside the door of the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the day of the fullness, the days of your⁺ ordination—for seven days he shall consecrate your⁺ hand. 34As he has done this day, YHWH has commanded to do, to make atonement upon you⁺. 35And you⁺ shall stay at the door of the Tent of Meeting, day and night for seven days, and keep the charge of YHWH, so that you⁺ do not die; for so I have been commanded.” 36And Aaron and his sons did all the things that YHWH had commanded by the hand of Moses.
