Moses Consecrates Aaron and His Sons
(Exodus 29:1–9)

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  קַ֤ח (Take) אֶֽת־ (-) אַהֲרֹן֙ (Aaron) וְאֶת־ (and) בָּנָ֣יו (his sons) אִתּ֔וֹ (with him), וְאֵת֙ (and) הַבְּגָדִ֔ים (the garments), וְאֵ֖ת (and) שֶׁ֣מֶן (oil) הַמִּשְׁחָ֑ה (the anointing), וְאֵ֣ת׀ (and) פַּ֣ר (the bull) הַֽחַטָּ֗את (of the sin offering), וְאֵת֙ (and) שְׁנֵ֣י (the two) הָֽאֵילִ֔ים (rams), וְאֵ֖ת (and) סַ֥ל (the basket) הַמַּצּֽוֹת׃ (of the unleavened bread); 3  וְאֵ֥ת (and) כָּל־ (all) הָעֵדָ֖ה (the congregation) הַקְהֵ֑ל (assemble) אֶל־ (at) פֶּ֖תַח (the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting).

4  וַיַּ֣עַשׂ (And did) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֹת֑וֹ (him), וַתִּקָּהֵל֙ (and assembled) הָֽעֵדָ֔ה (the congregation) אֶל־ (at) פֶּ֖תַח (the door) אֹ֥הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting). 5  וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And said) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) אֶל־ (to) הָעֵדָ֑ה (the congregation), זֶ֣ה (This is) הַדָּבָ֔ר (the word) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֥ה (commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ (to do).

6  וַיַּקְרֵ֣ב (And brought near) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) אֶֽת־ (-) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron) וְאֶת־ (and) בָּנָ֑יו (his sons), וַיִּרְחַ֥ץ (and he washed) אֹתָ֖ם (them) בַּמָּֽיִם׃ (with the water). 7  וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (And he put) עָלָ֜יו (on him) אֶת־ (-) הַכֻּתֹּ֗נֶת (the tunic), וַיַּחְגֹּ֤ר (and he girded) אֹתוֹ֙ (him) בָּֽאַבְנֵ֔ט (with the sash), וַיַּלְבֵּ֤שׁ (and he clothed) אֹתוֹ֙ (him) אֶֽת־ (with) הַמְּעִ֔יל (the robe), וַיִּתֵּ֥ן (and he put) עָלָ֖יו (on him) אֶת־ (-) הָאֵפֹ֑ד (the ephod), וַיַּחְגֹּ֣ר (and he girded) אֹת֗וֹ (him) בְּחֵ֙שֶׁב֙ (with the skillfully woven waistband) הָֽאֵפֹ֔ד (of the ephod), וַיֶּאְפֹּ֥ד (and he bound it) ל֖וֹ (on him) בּֽוֹ׃ (with it). 8  וַיָּ֥שֶׂם (And he put) עָלָ֖יו (on him) אֶת־ (-) הַחֹ֑שֶׁן (the breastplate), וַיִּתֵּן֙ (and he put) אֶל־ (in) הַחֹ֔שֶׁן (the breastplate) אֶת־ (-) הָאוּרִ֖ים (the Urim) וְאֶת־ (and) הַתֻּמִּֽים׃ (the Thummim). 9  וַיָּ֥שֶׂם (And he put) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּצְנֶ֖פֶת (the turban) עַל־ (on) רֹאשׁ֑וֹ (his head); וַיָּ֨שֶׂם (and he put) עַֽל־ (on) הַמִּצְנֶ֜פֶת (the turban), אֶל־ (toward) מ֣וּל (the front) פָּנָ֗יו (of its face), אֵ֣ת (-) צִ֤יץ (plate) הַזָּהָב֙ (the golden), נֵ֣זֶר (diadem) הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ (the holy), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

10  וַיִּקַּ֤ח (And took) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) אֶת־ (-) שֶׁ֣מֶן (the oil) הַמִּשְׁחָ֔ה (of anointing), וַיִּמְשַׁ֥ח (and he anointed) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן (the tabernacle) וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that was) בּ֑וֹ (in it), וַיְקַדֵּ֖שׁ (and he sanctified) אֹתָֽם׃ (them). 11  וַיַּ֥ז (And he sprinkled) מִמֶּ֛נּוּ (from it) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) שֶׁ֣בַע (seven) פְּעָמִ֑ים (times), וַיִּמְשַׁ֨ח (and he anointed) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֜חַ (the altar) וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלָ֗יו (its vessels), וְאֶת־ (and) הַכִּיֹּ֛ר (the basin) וְאֶת־ (and) כַּנּ֖וֹ (its stand), לְקַדְּשָֽׁם׃ (to sanctify them).

12  וַיִּצֹק֙ (And he poured) מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן (from the oil) הַמִּשְׁחָ֔ה (of anointing) עַ֖ל (on) רֹ֣אשׁ (the head) אַהֲרֹ֑ן (of Aaron) וַיִּמְשַׁ֥ח (and he anointed) אֹת֖וֹ (him) לְקַדְּשֽׁוֹ׃ (to sanctify him). 13  וַיַּקְרֵ֨ב (And brought near) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons), אַהֲרֹ֗ן (of Aaron) וַיַּלְבִּשֵׁ֤ם (and he clothed them) כֻּתֳּנֹת֙ (with tunics), וַיַּחְגֹּ֤ר (and he girded) אֹתָם֙ (them) אַבְנֵ֔ט (with sashes), וַיַּחֲבֹ֥שׁ (and he bound) לָהֶ֖ם (to them) מִגְבָּע֑וֹת (headbands), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

The Priests’ Sin Offering

14  וַיַּגֵּ֕שׁ (And he brought near) אֵ֖ת (-) פַּ֣ר (the bull) הַֽחַטָּ֑את (of the sin offering); וַיִּסְמֹ֨ךְ (and laid) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (Aaron) וּבָנָיו֙ (and his sons) אֶת־ (-) יְדֵיהֶ֔ם (their hands) עַל־ (on) רֹ֖אשׁ (the head) פַּ֥ר (of the bull) הַֽחַטָּֽאת׃ (of the sin offering). 15  וַיִּשְׁחָ֗ט (And he slaughtered it), וַיִּקַּ֨ח (and took) מֹשֶׁ֤ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּם֙ (the blood) וַ֠יִּתֵּן (and he put it) עַל־ (on) קַרְנ֨וֹת (the horns) הַמִּזְבֵּ֤חַ (of the altar) סָבִיב֙ (all around) בְּאֶצְבָּע֔וֹ (with his finger), וַיְחַטֵּ֖א (and he cleansed from sin) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (the altar), וְאֶת־ (and) הַדָּ֗ם (the blood) יָצַק֙ (he poured) אֶל־ (at) יְס֣וֹד (the base) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (of the altar), וַֽיְקַדְּשֵׁ֖הוּ (and he sanctified it) לְכַפֵּ֥ר (to make atonement) עָלָֽיו׃ (upon it).

16  וַיִּקַּ֗ח (And he took) אֶֽת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַחֵלֶב֮ (the fat) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) עַל־ (on) הַקֶּרֶב֒ (the entrails), וְאֵת֙ (and) יֹתֶ֣רֶת (the lobe) הַכָּבֵ֔ד (of the liver), וְאֶת־ (and) שְׁתֵּ֥י (the two) הַכְּלָיֹ֖ת (kidneys), וְאֶֽת־ (and) חֶלְבְּהֶ֑ן (their fat), וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר (and burned them) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃ (on the altar). 17  וְאֶת־ (And) הַפָּ֤ר (the bull), וְאֶת־ (and) עֹרוֹ֙ (its skin), וְאֶת־ (and) בְּשָׂר֣וֹ (its flesh), וְאֶת־ (and) פִּרְשׁ֔וֹ (its dung) שָׂרַ֣ף (he burned) בָּאֵ֔שׁ (in the fire) מִח֖וּץ (outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה (of the camp), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

The Priests’ Burnt Offering

18  וַיַּקְרֵ֕ב (And he brought near) אֵ֖ת (-) אֵ֣יל (the ram) הָעֹלָ֑ה (of the burnt offering), וַֽיִּסְמְכ֞וּ (and laid) אַהֲרֹ֧ן (Aaron) וּבָנָ֛יו (and his sons) אֶת־ (-) יְדֵיהֶ֖ם (their hands) עַל־ (on) רֹ֥אשׁ (the head) הָאָֽיִל׃ (of the ram). 19  וַיִּשְׁחָ֑ט (And he slaughtered it), וַיִּזְרֹ֨ק (and sprinkled) מֹשֶׁ֧ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֛ם (the blood) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around). 20  וְאֶת־ (And) הָאַ֔יִל (the ram) נִתַּ֖ח (he cut) לִנְתָחָ֑יו (into its pieces), וַיַּקְטֵ֤ר (and burned) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) אֶת־ (-) הָרֹ֔אשׁ (the head), וְאֶת־ (and) הַנְּתָחִ֖ים (the pieces), וְאֶת־ (and) הַפָּֽדֶר׃ (the fat). 21  וְאֶת־ (And) הַקֶּ֥רֶב (the entrails) וְאֶת־ (and) הַכְּרָעַ֖יִם (the legs) רָחַ֣ץ (he washed) בַּמָּ֑יִם (in the water), וַיַּקְטֵר֩ (and burned) מֹשֶׁ֨ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (the whole) הָאַ֜יִל (ram) הַמִּזְבֵּ֗חָה (on the altar). עֹלָ֨ה (A burnt offering) ה֤וּא (it was) לְרֵֽיחַ־ (for an aroma) נִיחֹ֙חַ֙ (pleasing), אִשֶּׁ֥ה (a fire offering) הוּא֙ (it was) לַיהוָ֔ה (to YHWH), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

The Ram of Ordination
(Exodus 29:10–30)

22  וַיַּקְרֵב֙ (And he brought near) אֶת־ (-) הָאַ֣יִל (the ram) הַשֵּׁנִ֔י (the second), אֵ֖יל (the ram) הַמִּלֻּאִ֑ים (of the ordination), וַֽיִּסְמְכ֞וּ (and laid) אַהֲרֹ֧ן (Aaron) וּבָנָ֛יו (and his sons) אֶת־ (-) יְדֵיהֶ֖ם (their hands) עַל־ (on) רֹ֥אשׁ (the head) הָאָֽיִל׃ (of the ram). 23  וַיִּשְׁחָ֓ט׀ (And he slaughtered it), וַיִּקַּ֤ח (and took) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) מִדָּמ֔וֹ (from its blood) וַיִּתֵּ֛ן (and he put it) עַל־ (on) תְּנ֥וּךְ (the tip) אֹֽזֶן־ (of the ear) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (of Aaron) הַיְמָנִ֑ית (right), וְעַל־ (and on) בֹּ֤הֶן (the thumb) יָדוֹ֙ (of his hand) הַיְמָנִ֔ית (right), וְעַל־ (and on) בֹּ֥הֶן (the big toe) רַגְל֖וֹ (of his foot) הַיְמָנִֽית׃ (right). 24  וַיַּקְרֵ֞ב (And he brought near) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) אַהֲרֹ֗ן (of Aaron), וַיִּתֵּ֨ן (and put) מֹשֶׁ֤ה (Moses) מִן־ (from) הַדָּם֙ (the blood) עַל־ (on) תְּנ֤וּךְ (the tips) אָזְנָם֙ (of their ears) הַיְמָנִ֔ית (right), וְעַל־ (and on) בֹּ֤הֶן (the thumbs) יָדָם֙ (of their hands) הַיְמָנִ֔ית (right), וְעַל־ (and on) בֹּ֥הֶן (the big toes) רַגְלָ֖ם (of their feet) הַיְמָנִ֑ית (right). וַיִּזְרֹ֨ק (And sprinkled) מֹשֶׁ֧ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֛ם (the blood) עַל־ (on) הַֽמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around).

25  וַיִּקַּ֞ח (And he took) אֶת־ (-) הַחֵ֣לֶב (the fat), וְאֶת־ (and) הָֽאַלְיָ֗ה (the fat tail), וְאֶֽת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) הַחֵלֶב֮ (the fat) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) עַל־ (on) הַקֶּרֶב֒ (the entrails), וְאֵת֙ (and) יֹתֶ֣רֶת (the lobe) הַכָּבֵ֔ד (of the liver), וְאֶת־ (and) שְׁתֵּ֥י (the two) הַכְּלָיֹ֖ת (kidneys), וְאֶֽת־ (and) חֶלְבְּהֶ֑ן (their fat), וְאֵ֖ת (and) שׁ֥וֹק (the thigh) הַיָּמִֽין׃ (right). 26  וּמִסַּ֨ל (And from the basket) הַמַּצּ֜וֹת (of the unleavened bread) אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (that was) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֗ה (of YHWH), לָ֠קַח (he took) חַלַּ֨ת (cake) מַצָּ֤ה (unleavened) אַחַת֙ (one), וְֽחַלַּ֨ת (and a cake) לֶ֥חֶם (of bread) שֶׁ֛מֶן (oiled) אַחַ֖ת (one), וְרָקִ֣יק (and wafer) אֶחָ֑ד (one), וַיָּ֙שֶׂם֙ (and he put them) עַל־ (on) הַ֣חֲלָבִ֔ים (the fat), וְעַ֖ל (and on) שׁ֥וֹק (the thigh) הַיָּמִֽין׃ (right). 27  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And he set) אֶת־ (-) הַכֹּ֔ל (all these) עַ֚ל (on) כַּפֵּ֣י (the palms) אַהֲרֹ֔ן (of Aaron) וְעַ֖ל (and on) כַּפֵּ֣י (the palms) בָנָ֑יו (of his sons), וַיָּ֧נֶף (and he waved) אֹתָ֛ם (them) תְּנוּפָ֖ה (as a wave offering) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

28  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And took) מֹשֶׁ֤ה (Moses) אֹתָם֙ (them) מֵעַ֣ל (from) כַּפֵּיהֶ֔ם (their palms), וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר (and he burned them) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חָה (on the altar) עַל־ (on) הָעֹלָ֑ה (the burnt offering). מִלֻּאִ֥ים (Were ordination offerings) הֵם֙ (they) לְרֵ֣יחַ (for an aroma) נִיחֹ֔חַ (pleasing), אִשֶּׁ֥ה (a fire offering) ה֖וּא (it was) לַיהוָֽה׃ (to YHWH). 29  וַיִּקַּ֤ח (And took) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) אֶת־ (-) הֶ֣חָזֶ֔ה (the breast), וַיְנִיפֵ֥הוּ (and he waved it) תְנוּפָ֖ה (as a wave offering) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), מֵאֵ֣יל (from the ram) הַמִּלֻּאִ֗ים (of the ordination). לְמֹשֶׁ֤ה (For Moses) הָיָה֙ (it was) לְמָנָ֔ה (for a portion), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

30  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And took) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) מִשֶּׁ֣מֶן (from the oil) הַמִּשְׁחָ֗ה (of anointing), וּמִן־ (and from) הַדָּם֮ (the blood) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּחַ֒ (the altar), וַיַּ֤ז (and he sprinkled it) עַֽל־ (on) אַהֲרֹן֙ (Aaron), עַל־ (on) בְּגָדָ֔יו (his garments), וְעַל־ (and on) בָּנָ֛יו (his sons), וְעַל־ (and on) בִּגְדֵ֥י (the garments) בָנָ֖יו (of his sons) אִתּ֑וֹ (with him). וַיְקַדֵּ֤שׁ (And he sanctified) אֶֽת־ (-) אַהֲרֹן֙ (Aaron), אֶת־ (-) בְּגָדָ֔יו (his garments), וְאֶת־ (and) בָּנָ֛יו (his sons), וְאֶת־ (and) בִּגְדֵ֥י (the garments) בָנָ֖יו (of his sons) אִתּֽוֹ׃ (with him).

31  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) אֶל־ (to) אַהֲרֹ֣ן (Aaron) וְאֶל־ (and to) בָּנָ֗יו (his sons), בַּשְּׁל֣וּ (Boil) אֶת־ (-) הַבָּשָׂר֮ (the flesh) פֶּ֣תַח (at the door) אֹ֣הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵד֒ (of Meeting), וְשָׁם֙ (and there) תֹּאכְל֣וּ (you⁺ shall eat) אֹת֔וֹ (it), וְאֶ֨ת־ (and) הַלֶּ֔חֶם (the bread) אֲשֶׁ֖ר (that is) בְּסַ֣ל (in the basket) הַמִּלֻּאִ֑ים (of ordination offerings), כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (as) צִוֵּ֙יתִי֙ (I commanded), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), אַהֲרֹ֥ן (Aaron) וּבָנָ֖יו (and his sons) יֹאכְלֻֽהוּ׃ (shall eat it). 32  וְהַנּוֹתָ֥ר (And the remainder) בַּבָּשָׂ֖ר (among the flesh) וּבַלָּ֑חֶם (and among the bread), בָּאֵ֖שׁ (in the fire) תִּשְׂרֹֽפוּ׃ (you⁺ shall burn).

33  וּמִפֶּתַח֩ (And from the door) אֹ֨הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֜ד (of Meeting) לֹ֤א (not) תֵֽצְאוּ֙ (you⁺ shall go) שִׁבְעַ֣ת (for seven) יָמִ֔ים (days), עַ֚ד (until) י֣וֹם (the day) מְלֹ֔את (of the fullness), יְמֵ֖י (the days) מִלֻּאֵיכֶ֑ם (of your⁺ ordination); כִּ֚י (for) שִׁבְעַ֣ת (seven) יָמִ֔ים (days) יְמַלֵּ֖א (he will fill) אֶת־ (-) יֶדְכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ hand). 34  כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (As) עָשָׂ֖ה (he has done) בַּיּ֣וֹם (in the day) הַזֶּ֑ה (this), צִוָּ֧ה (has commanded) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) לַעֲשֹׂ֖ת (to do) לְכַפֵּ֥ר (to make atonement) עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ (upon you⁺). 35  וּפֶתַח֩ (And at the door) אֹ֨הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֜ד (of Meeting) תֵּשְׁב֨וּ (you⁺ shall stay) יוֹמָ֤ם (day) וָלַ֙יְלָה֙ (and night) שִׁבְעַ֣ת (for seven) יָמִ֔ים (days), וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֛ם (and you⁺ shall keep) אֶת־ (-) מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת (the charge) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH), וְלֹ֣א (and not) תָמ֑וּתוּ (shall you⁺ die). כִּי־ (For) כֵ֖ן (so) צֻוֵּֽיתִי׃ (I have been commanded).

36  וַיַּ֥עַשׂ (And did) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron) וּבָנָ֑יו (and his sons) אֵ֚ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הַדְּבָרִ֔ים (the words) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) בְּיַד־ (by the hand) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ס (of Moses).
