Aaron’s First Offerings

1  וַיְהִי֙ (And it came to pass) בַּיּ֣וֹם (on the day) הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י (the eighth), קָרָ֣א (that called) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) לְאַהֲרֹ֖ן (for Aaron) וּלְבָנָ֑יו (and for his sons) וּלְזִקְנֵ֖י (and for the elders) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 2  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And he said) אֶֽל־ (to) אַהֲרֹ֗ן (Aaron), קַח־ (Take) לְ֠ךָ (for yourself) עֵ֣גֶל (a calf), בֶּן־ (a son) בָּקָ֧ר (of the herd), לְחַטָּ֛את (for a sin offering), וְאַ֥יִל (and a ram) לְעֹלָ֖ה (for a burnt offering), תְּמִימִ֑ם (unblemished), וְהַקְרֵ֖ב (and bring them near) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 3  וְאֶל־ (And to) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) תְּדַבֵּ֣ר (you shall speak), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), קְח֤וּ (Take) שְׂעִיר־ (a kid) עִזִּים֙ (of the goats) לְחַטָּ֔את (for a sin offering), וְעֵ֨גֶל (and a calf) וָכֶ֧בֶשׂ (and a lamb)— בְּנֵי־ (sons) שָׁנָ֛ה (of a year), תְּמִימִ֖ם (unblemished)— לְעֹלָֽה׃ (for a burnt offering), 4  וְשׁ֨וֹר (and a bull), וָאַ֜יִל (and a ram) לִשְׁלָמִ֗ים (for peace offerings) לִזְבֹּ֙חַ֙ (to sacrifice) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), וּמִנְחָ֖ה (and a grain offering) בְּלוּלָ֣ה (mixed) בַשָּׁ֑מֶן (with the oil). כִּ֣י (For) הַיּ֔וֹם (today) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) נִרְאָ֥ה (will appear) אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ (to you⁺).

5  וַיִּקְח֗וּ (And they brought) אֵ֚ת (-) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (what) צִוָּ֣ה (had commanded) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) אֶל־ (to) פְּנֵ֖י (the face) אֹ֣הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting), וַֽיִּקְרְבוּ֙ (and drew near) כָּל־ (all) הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה (the congregation), וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ (and stood) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH). 6  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And said) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses), זֶ֧ה (This is) הַדָּבָ֛ר (the thing) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֥ה (has commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ (you⁺ to do), וְיֵרָ֥א (and will appear) אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם (to you⁺) כְּב֥וֹד (the glory) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).

7  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) אֶֽל־ (to) אַהֲרֹ֗ן (Aaron), קְרַ֤ב (Draw near) אֶל־ (to) הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ (the altar) וַעֲשֵׂ֞ה (and do) אֶת־ (-) חַטָּֽאתְךָ֙ (your sin offering) וְאֶת־ (and) עֹ֣לָתֶ֔ךָ (your burnt offering), וְכַפֵּ֥ר (and make atonement) בַּֽעַדְךָ֖ (on your behalf) וּבְעַ֣ד (and on behalf) הָעָ֑ם (of the people). וַעֲשֵׂ֞ה (And do) אֶת־ (-) קָרְבַּ֤ן (the offering) הָעָם֙ (of the people), וְכַפֵּ֣ר (and make atonement) בַּֽעֲדָ֔ם (on their behalf), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (commanded) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

8  וַיִּקְרַ֥ב (And drew near) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron) אֶל־ (to) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (the altar) וַיִּשְׁחַ֛ט (and he slaughtered) אֶת־ (-) עֵ֥גֶל (the calf) הַחַטָּ֖את (of the sin offering) אֲשֶׁר־ (that was) לֽוֹ׃ (for himself). 9  וַ֠יַּקְרִבוּ (And brought near) בְּנֵ֨י (the sons) אַהֲרֹ֣ן (of Aaron) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּם֮ (the blood) אֵלָיו֒ (to him), וַיִּטְבֹּ֤ל (and he dipped) אֶצְבָּעוֹ֙ (his finger) בַּדָּ֔ם (in the blood), וַיִּתֵּ֖ן (and he put it) עַל־ (on) קַרְנ֣וֹת (the horns) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (of the altar), וְאֶת־ (and) הַדָּ֣ם (the blood) יָצַ֔ק (he poured out) אֶל־ (at) יְס֖וֹד (the base) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar). 10  וְאֶת־ (And) הַחֵ֨לֶב (the fat), וְאֶת־ (and) הַכְּלָיֹ֜ת (the kidneys), וְאֶת־ (and) הַיֹּתֶ֤רֶת (the lobe) מִן־ (of) הַכָּבֵד֙ (the liver) מִן־ (from) הַ֣חַטָּ֔את (the sin offering), הִקְטִ֖יר (he burned) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חָה (on the altar), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses). 11  וְאֶת־ (And) הַבָּשָׂ֖ר (the flesh) וְאֶת־ (and) הָע֑וֹר (the skin) שָׂרַ֣ף (he burned) בָּאֵ֔שׁ (with the fire) מִח֖וּץ (outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ (of the camp).

12  וַיִּשְׁחַ֖ט (And he slaughtered) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָ֑ה (the burnt offering). וַ֠יַּמְצִאוּ (And presented) בְּנֵ֨י (the sons) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (of Aaron) אֵלָיו֙ (to him) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֔ם (the blood), וַיִּזְרְקֵ֥הוּ (and he sprinkled it) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around). 13  וְאֶת־ (And) הָעֹלָ֗ה (the burnt offering) הִמְצִ֧יאוּ (they presented) אֵלָ֛יו (to him) לִנְתָחֶ֖יהָ (by its pieces) וְאֶת־ (and) הָרֹ֑אשׁ (the head), וַיַּקְטֵ֖ר (and he burned them) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (the altar). 14  וַיִּרְחַ֥ץ (And he washed) אֶת־ (-) הַקֶּ֖רֶב (the entrails) וְאֶת־ (and) הַכְּרָעָ֑יִם (the legs) וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר (and he burned them) עַל־ (on) הָעֹלָ֖ה (the burnt offering) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃ (on the altar).

15  וַיַּקְרֵ֕ב (And he brought near) אֵ֖ת (-) קָרְבַּ֣ן (the offering) הָעָ֑ם (of the people) וַיִּקַּ֞ח (and he took) אֶת־ (-) שְׂעִ֤יר (the goat), הַֽחַטָּאת֙ (of the sin offering) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) לָעָ֔ם (for the people), וַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֥הוּ (and he slaughtered it) וַֽיְחַטְּאֵ֖הוּ (and he cleansed from sin), כָּרִאשֽׁוֹן׃ (like the first one).

16  וַיַּקְרֵ֖ב (And he brought near) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָ֑ה (the burnt offering) וַֽיַּעֲשֶׂ֖הָ (and he did it) כַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ (according to the ordinance).

17  וַיַּקְרֵב֮ (And he brought near) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּנְחָה֒ (the grain offering), וַיְמַלֵּ֤א (and he filled) כַפּוֹ֙ (his palm) מִמֶּ֔נָּה (from it), וַיַּקְטֵ֖ר (and he burned it) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (the altar), מִלְּבַ֖ד (in addition to) עֹלַ֥ת (the burnt offering) הַבֹּֽקֶר׃ (of the morning).

18  וַיִּשְׁחַ֤ט (And he slaughtered) אֶת־ (-) הַשּׁוֹר֙ (the bull) וְאֶת־ (and) הָאַ֔יִל (the ram) זֶ֥בַח (as the sacrifice) הַשְּׁלָמִ֖ים (of the peace offerings) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that were) לָעָ֑ם (for the people); וַ֠יַּמְצִאוּ (and presented) בְּנֵ֨י (the sons) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (of Aaron) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּם֙ (the blood) אֵלָ֔יו (to him), וַיִּזְרְקֵ֥הוּ (and he sprinkled it) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (the altar) סָבִֽיב׃ (all around).

19  וְאֶת־ (And) הַחֲלָבִ֖ים (the fat) מִן־ (from) הַשּׁ֑וֹר (the bull) וּמִן־ (and) הָאַ֔יִל (the ram), הָֽאַלְיָ֤ה (the fat tail), וְהַֽמְכַסֶּה֙ (and the covering), וְהַכְּלָיֹ֔ת (and the kidneys), וְיֹתֶ֖רֶת (and the lobe) הַכָּבֵֽד׃ (of the liver), 20  וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ (and they put) אֶת־ (-) הַחֲלָבִ֖ים (the fat) עַל־ (on) הֶחָז֑וֹת (the breasts), וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר (and he burned) הַחֲלָבִ֖ים (the fat) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃ (on the altar). 21  וְאֵ֣ת (And) הֶחָז֗וֹת (the breasts) וְאֵת֙ (and) שׁ֣וֹק (the thigh) הַיָּמִ֔ין (right) הֵנִ֧יף (waved) אַהֲרֹ֛ן (Aaron) תְּנוּפָ֖ה (as a wave offering) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

22  וַיִּשָּׂ֨א (And lifted up) אַהֲרֹ֧ן (Aaron) אֶת־ (-) יָדוֹ (his hands) אֶל־ (toward) הָעָ֖ם (the people), וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֑ם (and he blessed them), וַיֵּ֗רֶד (and he came down) מֵעֲשֹׂ֧ת (from doing) הַֽחַטָּ֛את (the sin offering), וְהָעֹלָ֖ה (and the burnt offering), וְהַשְּׁלָמִֽים׃ (and the peace offerings).

23  וַיָּבֹ֨א (And went) מֹשֶׁ֤ה (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹן֙ (and Aaron) אֶל־ (into) אֹ֣הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֔ד (of Meeting), וַיֵּ֣צְא֔וּ (and they came out), וַֽיְבָרֲכ֖וּ (and they blessed) אֶת־ (-) הָעָ֑ם (the people), וַיֵּרָ֥א (and appeared) כְבוֹד־ (the glory) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֶל־ (to) כָּל־ (all) הָעָֽם׃ (the people). 24  וַתֵּ֤צֵא (And came out) אֵשׁ֙ (fire) מִלִּפְנֵ֣י (from before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) וַתֹּ֙אכַל֙ (and it consumed) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ (the altar) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָ֖ה (the burnt offering) וְאֶת־ (and) הַחֲלָבִ֑ים (the fat). וַיַּ֤רְא (And saw) כָּל־ (all) הָעָם֙ (the people), וַיָּרֹ֔נּוּ (and they shouted) וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ (and they fell) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵיהֶֽם׃ (their faces).
