Waters from under the Temple

1  וַיְשִׁבֵנִי֮ (And he brought me back) אֶל־ (to) פֶּ֣תַח (the door) הַבַּיִת֒ (of the temple); וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), מַ֣יִם (waters) יֹצְאִ֗ים (were flowing) מִתַּ֨חַת (from under) מִפְתַּ֤ן (the threshold) הַבַּ֙יִת֙ (of the temple) קָדִ֔ימָה (toward the east), כִּֽי־ (for) פְנֵ֥י (the face) הַבַּ֖יִת (of the temple) קָדִ֑ים (is eastward), וְהַמַּ֣יִם (and the waters) יֹרְדִ֗ים (were flowing) מִתַּ֜חַת (from under) מִכֶּ֤תֶף (the side) הַבַּ֙יִת֙ (of the temple), הַיְמָנִ֔ית (on the right) מִנֶּ֖גֶב (at the south) לַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (of the altar).

2  וַיּוֹצִאֵנִי֮ (And he brought me out) דֶּֽרֶךְ־ (by way) שַׁ֣עַר (of the gate) צָפוֹנָה֒ (north), וַיְסִבֵּ֙נִי֙ (and he led me around) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (the way) ח֔וּץ (on the outside) אֶל־ (to) שַׁ֣עַר (the gateway) הַח֔וּץ (outer) דֶּ֖רֶךְ (the way) הַפּוֹנֶ֣ה (facing) קָדִ֑ים (east); וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), מַ֣יִם (waters) מְפַכִּ֔ים (were flowing) מִן־ (on) הַכָּתֵ֖ף (the side) הַיְמָנִֽית׃ (right).

3  בְּצֵאת־ (At the going out of) הָאִ֥ישׁ (the man) קָדִ֖ים (to the east), וְקָ֣ו (and the line) בְּיָד֑וֹ (in his hand) וַיָּ֤מָד (and he measured) אֶ֙לֶף֙ (a thousand) בָּֽאַמָּ֔ה (by the cubit), וַיַּעֲבִרֵ֥נִי (and he brought me) בַמַּ֖יִם (through the waters); מֵ֥י (waters) אָפְסָֽיִם׃ (to the ankles).

4  וַיָּ֣מָד (And he measured) אֶ֔לֶף (a thousand), וַיַּעֲבִרֵ֥נִי (and he brought me) בַמַּ֖יִם (through the waters); מַ֣יִם (waters) בִּרְכָּ֑יִם (to the knees).

וַיָּ֣מָד (And again he measured) אֶ֔לֶף (a thousand), וַיַּעֲבִרֵ֖נִי (and he brought me) מֵ֥י (through waters) מָתְנָֽיִם׃ (to the loins).

5  וַיָּ֣מָד (And he measured) אֶ֔לֶף (a thousand); נַ֕חַל (a river) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) לֹֽא־ (not) אוּכַ֖ל (I was able) לַעֲבֹ֑ר (to cross), כִּֽי־ (for) גָא֤וּ (had risen), הַמַּ֙יִם֙ (the waters) מֵ֣י (waters for) שָׂ֔חוּ (swimming), נַ֖חַל (a river) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) לֹֽא־ (not) יֵעָבֵֽר׃ (could be crossed).

6  וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And he said) אֵלַ֖י (to me) הֲרָאִ֣יתָ (Have you seen) בֶן־ (son) אָדָ֑ם (of man), וַיּוֹלִכֵ֥נִי (and he brought me) וַיְשִׁבֵ֖נִי (and returned me) שְׂפַ֥ת (to the bank) הַנָּֽחַל׃ (of the river).

7  בְּשׁוּבֵ֕נִי (In my returning), וְהִנֵּה֙ (and behold), אֶל־ (along) שְׂפַ֣ת (the bank) הַנַּ֔חַל (of the river) עֵ֖ץ (were trees) רַ֣ב (many) מְאֹ֑ד (very) מִזֶּ֖ה (on this side) וּמִזֶּֽה׃ (and on this side). 8  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And He said) אֵלַ֗י (to me) הַמַּ֤יִם (The waters) הָאֵ֙לֶּה֙ (these) יוֹצְאִ֗ים (are flowing) אֶל־ (toward) הַגְּלִילָה֙ (the border), הַקַּדְמוֹנָ֔ה (eastern) וְיָרְד֖וּ (and they go down) עַל־ (upon) הָֽעֲרָבָ֑ה (the Arabah), וּבָ֣אוּ (and enter) הַיָּ֔מָּה (the Sea), אֶל־ (into) הַיָּ֥מָּה (the sea), הַמּֽוּצָאִ֖ים (having gone out) וְנִרְפְּאוּ (are healed) הַמָּֽיִם׃ (its waters). 9  וְהָיָ֣ה (And it will come to pass that), כָל־ (every) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (soul) חַיָּ֣ה׀ (living), אֲ‍ֽשֶׁר־ (that) יִשְׁרֹ֡ץ (moves), אֶ֣ל (at) כָּל־ (every place) אֲשֶׁר֩ (where) יָב֨וֹא (should come), שָׁ֤ם (there); נַחֲלַ֙יִם֙ (the rivers) יִֽחְיֶ֔ה (will live). וְהָיָ֥ה (And there will be) הַדָּגָ֖ה (of fish), רַבָּ֣ה (abundance) מְאֹ֑ד (a great) כִּי֩ (because) בָ֨אוּ (come) שָׁ֜מָּה (there) הַמַּ֣יִם (the waters) הָאֵ֗לֶּה (these) וְיֵרָֽפְאוּ֙ (and they will be healed); וָחָ֔י (and will live) כֹּ֛ל (everything) אֲשֶׁר־ (wherever) יָ֥בוֹא (comes) שָׁ֖מָּה (there) הַנָּֽחַל׃ (the river).

10  וְהָיָה֩ (And it will come to pass that), יַעַמְדוּ (will stand) עָלָ֜יו (upon it) דַּוָּגִ֗ים (fishermen) מֵעֵ֥ין (from En-) גֶּ֙דִי֙ (gedi) וְעַד־ (and unto) עֵ֣ין (En-) עֶגְלַ֔יִם (eglaim); מִשְׁט֥וֹחַ (a spreading place) לַֽחֲרָמִ֖ים (of nets); יִהְי֑וּ (will be) לְמִינָה֙ (according to their kind), תִּהְיֶ֣ה (will be) דְגָתָ֔ם (their fish) כִּדְגַ֛ת (as the fish) הַיָּ֥ם (of the sea), הַגָּד֖וֹל (great) רַבָּ֥ה (many) מְאֹֽד׃ (exceedingly).

11  בִּצֹּאתוֹ (And its swamps) וּגְבָאָ֛יו (and marshes) וְלֹ֥א (and still not) יֵרָפְא֖וּ (will be healed); לְמֶ֥לַח (to salt) נִתָּֽנוּ׃ (they will be given).

12  וְעַל־ (And alongside) הַנַּ֣חַל (the river) יַעֲלֶ֣ה (will come up) עַל־ (along) שְׂפָת֣וֹ (the bank) מִזֶּ֣ה׀ (on this side) וּמִזֶּ֣ה׀ (and on this side), כָּל־ (every) עֵֽץ־ (of tree) מַ֠אֲכָל (for food), לֹא־ (not) יִבּ֨וֹל (will wither), עָלֵ֜הוּ (its leaf) וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יִתֹּ֣ם (will fail). פִּרְי֗וֹ (Its fruit) לָֽחֳדָשָׁיו֙ (according to its months), יְבַכֵּ֔ר (it will bear fruit) כִּ֣י (because) מֵימָ֔יו (its waters) מִן־ (from) הַמִּקְדָּ֖שׁ (the sanctuary), הֵ֣מָּה (they are) יֽוֹצְאִ֑ים (flowing) וְהָיוּ (and will be) פִרְיוֹ֙ (its fruit) לְמַֽאֲכָ֔ל (for food), וְעָלֵ֖הוּ (and its leaf) לִתְרוּפָֽה׃ס (for healing).

The Borders of the Land

13  כֹּ֤ה (Thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); גֵּ֤ה (These are) גְבוּל֙ (the borders), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (by which) תִּתְנַחֲל֣וּ (you⁺ shall divide as an inheritance) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) לִשְׁנֵ֥י (among the two) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) שִׁבְטֵ֣י (tribes) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel); יוֹסֵ֖ף (Joseph shall have) חֲבָלִֽים׃ (portions). 14  וּנְחַלְתֶּ֤ם (And you⁺ shall divide) אוֹתָהּ֙ (it) אִ֣ישׁ (one) כְּאָחִ֔יו (with another); אֲשֶׁ֤ר (for) נָשָׂ֙אתִי֙ (I lifted up) אֶת־ (-) יָדִ֔י (My hand) לְתִתָּ֖הּ (to give it) לַאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם (to your⁺ fathers), וְנָ֨פְלָ֜ה (and will fall) הָאָ֧רֶץ (the land) הַזֹּ֛את (this) לָכֶ֖ם (to you⁺) בְּנַחֲלָֽה׃ (as an inheritance).

15  וְזֶ֖ה (And this is) גְּב֣וּל (the border) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the land)

לִפְאַ֨ת (on the side), צָפ֜וֹנָה (of the north) מִן־ (from) הַיָּ֧ם (the sea), הַגָּד֛וֹל (great) הַדֶּ֥רֶךְ (by the way) חֶתְלֹ֖ן (of Hethlon), לְב֥וֹא (at the coming in) צְדָֽדָה׃ (to Zedad); 16  חֲמָ֤ת׀ (Hamath), בֵּר֙וֹתָה֙ (Berothah), סִבְרַ֔יִם (Sibraim), אֲשֶׁר֙ (which is) בֵּין־ (between) גְּב֣וּל (the border) דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק (of Damascus) וּבֵ֖ין (and between) גְּב֣וּל (the border) חֲמָ֑ת (of Hamath); חָצֵר֙ (Hazar-) הַתִּיכ֔וֹן (Hatticon), אֲשֶׁ֖ר (which is) אֶל־ (on) גְּב֥וּל (the border) חַוְרָֽן׃ (of Hauran). 17  וְהָיָ֨ה (And will be) גְב֜וּל (the boundary) מִן־ (from) הַיָּ֗ם (the Sea) חֲצַ֤ר (to Hazar-) עֵינוֹן֙ (enan), גְּב֣וּל (the border) דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק (of Damascus), וְצָפ֥וֹן׀ (and to the north) צָפ֖וֹנָה (to the north), וּגְב֣וּל (and the border) חֲמָ֑ת (of Hamath). וְאֵ֖ת (And) פְּאַ֥ת (this is the side) צָפֽוֹן׃ (to the north).

18  וּפְאַ֣ת (And on the side) קָדִ֡ים (of the east) מִבֵּ֣ין (from between) חַוְרָ֣ן (Hauran), וּמִבֵּין־ (and between) דַּמֶּשֶׂק֩ (Damascus), וּמִבֵּ֨ין (and between) הַגִּלְעָ֜ד (Gilead), וּמִבֵּ֨ין (and between) אֶ֤רֶץ (the land) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן (along the Jordan), מִגְּב֛וּל (from this border) עַל־ (to) הַיָּ֥ם (Sea). הַקַּדְמוֹנִ֖י (The Eastern) תָּמֹ֑דּוּ (you⁺ shall mark out) וְאֵ֖ת (and) פְּאַ֥ת (this is the side) קָדִֽימָה׃ (of the east).

19  וּפְאַת֙ (And the side) נֶ֣גֶב (of the Negev) תֵּימָ֔נָה (toward the south), מִתָּמָ֗ר (from Tamar) עַד־ (unto) מֵי֙ (the waters) מְרִיב֣וֹת (of Meribah) קָדֵ֔שׁ (Kadesh), נַחֲלָ֖ה (along the brook) אֶל־ (to) הַיָּ֣ם (the Sea). הַגָּד֑וֹל (Great) וְאֵ֥ת (and) פְּאַת־ (this is the side) תֵּימָ֖נָה (of the Negev) נֶֽגְבָּה׃ (toward the south).

20  וּפְאַת־ (And on the side) יָם֙ (of the west) הַיָּ֣ם (the Sea) הַגָּד֔וֹל (great) מִגְּב֕וּל (from the border), עַד־ (until) נֹ֖כַח (over against) לְב֣וֹא (the coming in) חֲמָ֑ת (Hamath). זֹ֖את (This is) פְּאַת־ (the side) יָֽם׃ (of the west).

21  וְחִלַּקְתֶּ֞ם (And you⁺ shall divide) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֧רֶץ (the land) הַזֹּ֛את (this) לָכֶ֖ם (among yourselves) לְשִׁבְטֵ֥י (according to the tribes) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 22  וְהָיָ֗ה (And it will come to pass that), תַּפִּ֣לוּ (you⁺ will allot) אוֹתָהּ֮ (it) בְּנַחֲלָה֒ (as an inheritance) לָכֶ֗ם (for yourselves) וּלְהַגֵּרִים֙ (and for the sojourners) הַגָּרִ֣ים (who are sojourning) בְּתוֹכְכֶ֔ם (in your⁺ midst) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) הוֹלִ֥דוּ (give birth to) בָנִ֖ים (sons) בְּתֽוֹכְכֶ֑ם (in your⁺ midst) וְהָי֣וּ (and will they be) לָכֶ֗ם (unto you⁺) כְּאֶזְרָח֙ (as a native) בִּבְנֵ֣י (among the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel); אִתְּכֶם֙ (with you⁺) יִפְּל֣וּ (they shall be allotted) בְנַחֲלָ֔ה (an inheritance) בְּת֖וֹךְ (in the midst) שִׁבְטֵ֥י (of the tribes) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 23  וְהָיָ֣ה (And it will come to pass), בַשֵּׁ֔בֶט (in the tribe) אֲשֶׁר־ (which) גָּ֥ר (sojourned), הַגֵּ֖ר (the sojourner) אִתּ֑וֹ (with them) שָׁ֚ם (that there) תִּתְּנ֣וּ (you⁺ will give) נַחֲלָת֔וֹ (his inheritance), נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃ס (YHWH).
