His kingship is not limited to Israel or to the temple in Jerusalem; all creation stands under His authority. Psa 93:1 The LORD reigns! He is robed in majesty;… let the nations tremble! The peoples of the earth are summoned to recognize His holiness and judgment. Even the strongest kingdoms cannot resist the God who governs history and holds rulers accountable. Hab 3:6 He stood and measured the earth; He looked… He is enthroned above the cherubim; The image recalls the ark of the covenant, where the LORD manifested His presence above the mercy seat between the cherubim. Though exalted in holiness, He had chosen to dwell among His covenant people. Ezk 10:18-19 Then the glory of the LORD moved away from the threshold… let the earth quake! God’s presence shakes creation itself. The response of the earth reflects the majesty of its Creator and the certainty that His reign will stand. Nam 1:5 The mountains quake before Him, and the hills melt away;… Great is the LORD in Zion; Zion, Jerusalem, was the city of David and the site of the Temple, where the LORD made His presence known among Israel. From this chosen place, He revealed His holiness, received the worship of His people, and established His kingly rule. Psa 48:1-2 A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD… He is exalted above all the peoples. Though Israel was uniquely called to know Him, the LORD rules over every nation and people. His authority extends over all the earth and will be fully displayed when Christ reigns over the nations. Psa 113:4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations,… Let them praise Israel’s worship included songs, sacrifices, and public celebration before the Lord. The call extends beyond Israel to every people under God’s rule. Psa 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone… Your great and awesome name— God’s name, representing His character and essence, declares His majesty, power, and righteous authority over all nations. He is worthy of reverence because He alone is God. Deu 28:58 If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law… He is holy! God is utterly pure and set apart from all creation. His holiness also defined Israel’s calling to live as a people belonging to Him. 1Sa 2:2 There is no one holy like the LORD. Indeed, there is no one… The mighty King loves justice. God rules with absolute authority, yet His power is never arbitrary or oppressive. He governs in righteousness and requires justice among the nations and within His covenant people. Isa 61:8 For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery… You have established equity; The order God established reflects His impartial character. He does not favor the powerful at the expense of the weak, and He holds rulers and people accountable to His standards. Psa 67:4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,… You have exercised justice and righteousness in Jacob. Israel’s history records God’s faithful dealings with the descendants of Jacob through His law, discipline, mercy, and deliverance. His judgments upheld the covenant and called His people to live rightly before Him. Psa 147:19-20 He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes… Exalt the LORD our God, Israel is called to honor the LORD as their covenant God and supreme King. His rule over the nations and His faithfulness to His people require public praise and reverent acknowledgment of His greatness. Psa 57:5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; may Your glory… and worship at His footstool; God’s footstool points to the place of His earthly presence, especially the ark of the covenant in the sanctuary. Though heaven is His throne, He made His presence known among Israel, and they were to approach Him in humility and submission. Psa 132:7 Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship… He is holy! The LORD is wholly pure, righteous, and set apart from all creation. His holiness governs His judgments, mercy, and covenant dealings with His people, making Him worthy of worship. 1Sa 2:2 There is no one holy like the LORD. Indeed, there is no one… Moses and Aaron were among His priests; Aaron served as Israel’s first high priest, appointed by God to oversee sacrifices and represent the people before Him. Moses was not part of the hereditary priesthood, yet he carried out priestly duties in Israel’s earliest days, interceding for the nation and standing before God on its behalf. Both men led Israel under God’s authority during the Exodus and wilderness years. Exo 24:4-8 And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD.… Samuel was among those who called on His name. Samuel served as prophet, judge, and spiritual leader during Israel’s transition from the period of the judges to the monarchy. He regularly sought the Lord in prayer and guided the nation according to God’s direction, including the anointing of Saul and David. 1Sa 7:9 Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it… They called to the LORD and He answered. God heard these faithful servants when they interceded for Israel and sought His guidance. Their lives show the Lord’s covenant faithfulness toward those who approach Him in obedience and dependence. Jer 33:3 Call to Me, and I will answer and show you… He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; God made His presence known to Israel throughout the wilderness journey, leading them by cloud during the day and by fire at night. From the cloud He gave direction and revealed His will while shielding the people from the full display of His glory. His presence among them showed that He had not abandoned them after delivering them from Egypt. Exo 33:9 As Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud… they kept His decrees Moses, Aaron, and Samuel are remembered as servants who obeyed God’s commands and called the nation to covenant faithfulness. Israel’s laws governed worship, justice, and daily life, requiring the people to live as the nation God had chosen. Deu 10:13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD… and the statutes He gave them. God’s statutes set Israel apart from the surrounding nations and established the order by which they were to serve Him. Their obedience did not earn His deliverance, but it was the required response of a people redeemed and brought into covenant with Him. Neh 9:13-14 You came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them… O LORD our God, You answered them. God heard Moses, Aaron, and Samuel as they stood before Him on behalf of Israel. Throughout Israel’s history, He gave direction, delivered His people, and responded to their intercession during times of rebellion, danger, and national need. 1Sa 7:9-10 Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it… You were a forgiving God to them, Though Israel repeatedly sinned, God granted mercy when they turned to Him. He forgave their idolatry, unbelief, and rebellion, providing atonement through the sacrifices He appointed and preserving His covenant people despite their failures. Exo 34:6-7 Then the LORD passed in front of Moses and called out:… yet an avenger of their misdeeds. God’s forgiveness did not remove all earthly consequences of sin. Moses, Aaron, and the nation experienced His discipline for disobedience, revealing that the holy God who pardons also judges wrongdoing. His justice against sin ultimately points to Christ, who bore its penalty for all who believe. Num 14:20-23 “I have pardoned them as you requested,” the LORD replied.… Exalt the LORD our God God’s people are called to publicly honor Him as the supreme King and covenant Lord. Israel’s worship acknowledged that the Lord alone ruled over them and deserved their undivided devotion. Psa 118:28 You are my God, and I will give You thanks.… and worship at His holy mountain, God chose Mount Zion in Jerusalem as the place where His name would dwell and where the temple stood. There Israel gathered for sacrifices, feasts, prayer, and instruction, approaching God according to the worship He commanded. Isa 56:7 I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them joyful… for the LORD our God is holy. God is wholly pure, righteous, and set apart from all creation. His holiness explains why He must be worshiped with reverence and why His people are called to live as those who belong to Him. 1Sa 2:2 There is no one holy like the LORD.
