AN INSTRUCTION OF ETHAN THE EZRAHITE. Of the kind acts of YHWH, I sing for all time, || From generation to generation I make known Your faithfulness with my mouth, I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.
For I said, “Kindness is built for all time, || The heavens! You establish Your faithfulness in them.” For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
I have made a covenant for My chosen, || I have sworn to My servant David: You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,
“Even for all time I establish your seed, || And have built your throne to generation and generation.” Selah. ‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.’”
And the heavens confess Your wonders, O YHWH, || Your faithfulness [is] also in an assembly of holy ones. Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! The heavens praise your wonders, LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the sky, compares himself to YHWH? [Who] is like to YHWH among sons of the mighty? For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?
God is very terrible, || In the secret counsel of His holy ones, || And fearful over all surrounding Him. a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him.
O YHWH, God of Hosts, || Who [is] like You—a strong YAH? And Your faithfulness [is] around You. O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you? Who is like you, LORD God Almighty? You, LORD, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
You [are] ruler over the pride of the sea, || In the lifting up of its billows You restrain them. You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.
You have bruised Rahab, as one wounded. You have scattered Your enemies with the arm of Your strength. You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies.
The heavens [are] Yours, || The earth [is] also Yours, || The habitable world and its fullness, || You have founded them. The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them. The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.
North and south You have appointed them, || Tabor and Hermon sing in Your Name. The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name. You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name.
You have an arm with might, || Strong is Your hand—high Your right hand. You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand. Your arm is endowed with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.
Righteousness and judgment || [Are] the fixed place of Your throne, || Kindness and truth go before Your face. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.
O the blessedness of the people knowing the shout, || O YHWH, they habitually walk in the light of Your face. Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face, Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
They rejoice in Your Name all the day, || And they are exalted in Your righteousness, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.
For You [are] the beauty of their strength, || And in Your good will is our horn exalted, For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.
For our shield [is] of YHWH, || And our king to the Holy One of Israel. For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Then You have spoken in vision, || To Your saint, indeed, || You say, I have placed help on a mighty one, || Exalted a chosen one out of the people, Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: “I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: “I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have raised up a young man from among the people.
I have found My servant David, || With My holy oil I have anointed him. I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him, I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.
With whom My hand is established, || My arm also strengthens him. so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him. My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.
An enemy does not exact on him, || And a son of perverseness does not afflict him. The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him. The enemy will not get the better of him; the wicked will not oppress him.
And I have beaten down his adversaries before him, || And I plague those hating him, I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him. I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries.
And My faithfulness and kindness [are] with him, || And in My Name is his horn exalted. My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
And I have set his hand on the sea, || And his right hand on the rivers. I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.
He proclaims to Me: “You [are] my Father, || My God, and the rock of my salvation.” He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’ He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.’
I also appoint him firstborn, || Highest of the kings of the earth. And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.
For all time I keep for him My kindness, || And My covenant [is] steadfast with him. My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him. I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail.
And I have set his seed forever, || And his throne as the days of the heavens. I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens. I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.
If his sons forsake My law, || And do not walk in My judgments; If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules, “If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes,
If they defile My statutes, || And do not keep My commands, if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments, if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands,
I have looked after their transgression with a rod, || And their iniquity with strokes, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes, I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging;
And I do not break My kindness from him, || Nor do I deal falsely in My faithfulness. but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness. but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
I do not profane My covenant, || And I do not change that which is going forth from My lips. I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips. I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.
Once I have sworn by My holiness, || I do not lie to David, Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David. Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness— and I will not lie to David—
His seed is for all time, || And his throne [is] as the sun before Me, His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me. that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;
It is established as the moon for all time, || And the witness in the sky is steadfast. Selah. Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.”
And You, You have cast off, and reject, || You have shown Yourself angry with Your anointed, But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed. But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one.
Have rejected the covenant of Your servant, || You have defiled his crown to the earth, You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust. You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust.
You have broken down all his hedges, || You have made his fortifications a ruin. You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins. You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins.
Everyone passing by the way has spoiled him, || He has been a reproach to his neighbors, All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors. All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.
You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries, || You have caused all his enemies to rejoice. You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
Also—You turn back the sharpness of his sword, || And have not established him in battle, You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle. Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle.
Have caused [him] to cease from his brightness, || And have cast down his throne to the earth. You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground. You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground.
You have shortened the days of his youth, || Have covered him over [with] shame. Selah. You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame.
Until when, O YHWH, are You hidden? Does Your fury burn as fire forever? How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?
Remember how [short] my lifetime [is]. Why have You created in vain || All the sons of men? Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man! Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all humanity!
Who [is] the man that lives, and does not see death? He delivers his soul from the hand of Sheol. Selah. What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah Who can live and not see death, or who can escape the power of the grave?
Where [are] Your former kindnesses, O Lord, || [Which] You have sworn to David in Your faithfulness? Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David? Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Your servants, || I have borne in my bosom all the strivings of the peoples, Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, and how I bear in my heart the insults of all the many nations, Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
With which Your enemies reproached, O YHWH, || With which they have reproached || The steps of Your anointed. with which your enemies mock, O LORD, with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed. the taunts with which your enemies, LORD, have mocked, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.
Blessed [is] YHWH for all time. Amen and amen! Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen. Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
