1 And Jesus, having answered, spake to them in parables, saying, And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:
2 The kingdom of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made a nuptial feast for his son. “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.
3 And he sent his servants to those having been called to the nuptial feast: and they would not come. and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
4 And again, he sent other servants, saying, Say to the called: Behold, I have prepared my supper; my bulls and stall-fed killed, and all prepared: come to the nuptials. Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’ “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
5 And they, not having heeded, departed, one truly to his own field, and one to his traffic: But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business.

9 Go ye, therefore, to the passages of the ways, and as many as ye should find, call to the nuptial feast. Go therefore to the main roads and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.’ So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’
10 And those servants, having come to the ways, gathered together all, as many as they found, also both the evil and good, and the nuptial feast was filled with the reclining. And those servants went out into the roads and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good. So the wedding hall was filled with guests. So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 And the king, having come in to behold the reclining, saw there a man not clad with the garment of the wedding: “But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man who had no wedding garment. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12 And he says to him, Friend, how camest thou in here, not having a garment of the nuptial feast? And he was muzzled. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.
13 Then said the king to his servants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him away, and cast ye him into outer darkness; weeping shall be there, and gnashing of teeth. Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 For many are called, and few chosen. For many are called, but few are chosen.” “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”
15 Then the Pharisees, having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare him in word. Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words.
16 And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and care is to thee for none; for thou lookest not to the face of men. And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone’s opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.
17 Therefore say to us, What seems to thee Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?”
18 But Jesus, having known their evil, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites? But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?
19 Show me the piece of money of tribute. And they brought him a drachma. Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius,
20 And he says to them, Whose is this image and inscription? And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”
21 They say to him, Caesar's. Then says he to them, Give back then to Caesar the things of Caesar; and the things of God to God. They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
22 And having heard, they wondered, and having left him, they departed. When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away. When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
23 In that day the Sadducees came to him, they saying there is to be no rising up: and they asked him, The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.
24 Saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’ “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.
25 And with us were seven brethren: and the first, having married, died; and having no seed, he left his wife to his brother. Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother. Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother.
26 And likewise the second, and third, even till the seven. So too the second and third, down to the seventh. The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh.
27 And after all died also the woman. After them all, the woman died. Finally, the woman died.
28 Therefore in the rising up whose of the seven shall the woman be? for they all had her. In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.” Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”
29 And Jesus, having answered, said to them, Ye are led astray, not having known the writings, nor the power of God. But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
30 For in the rising up they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the messengers of God in heaven. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
31 And for the rising up of the dead, read ye not that spoken by God, saying, And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you,
32 I am God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
33 And the crowds having heard, were astonished at his teaching. And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
34 And the Pharisees having heard that he muzzled the Sadducees, were gathered upon the same. But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.
35 And one of them, skilled in the law, asked, tempting him, and saying, And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 Teacher, which the great command in the law? “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 And Jesus said to him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and the great command. This is the great and first commandment. This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second like it: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 In these two commands hang the whole law and the prophets. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
41 And the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus asked them, Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 Saying, What seems to you about Christ? Whose son is he They say to him, David's. saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “The son of David.” “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied.
43 He says to them, How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying, He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying, He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,
44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit by my right, till I make thine enemies the footstool of my feet. “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet”’? “’The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.|’
45 If, therefore, David calls him Lord, how is he his son. If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?” If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”
46 And none could answer him a word, nor dared any one from that day to ask him any more. And no one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day did anyone dare to ask him any more questions. No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
