1	And when He completed all His words in the hearing of the people, He entered into Capernaum.	After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.	When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum.
2	And a certain servant of a centurion, who was valued highly to him, being ill, was about to die.	Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him.	There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die.
3	And having heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, asking Him that, having come, He might save his servant.	When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant.	The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.
4	And having come to Jesus, they were imploring Him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to whom You will grant this,	And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to have you do this for him,	When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this,
5	for he loves our nation, and he built the synagogue for us.”	for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.”	because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”
6	And Jesus was going with them, and now in His being not far away from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not fit that You should enter under my roof.	And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.	So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.
7	Therefore neither did I count myself worthy to come to You. But say a word, and let my servant be healed.	Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.	That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
8	For I also am a man appointed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does.”	For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”	For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9	And having heard these things, Jesus marveled at him. And having turned to the crowd following Him, He said, “I say to you⁺, not even in Israel did I find such great faith.”	When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”	When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”
10	And having returned to the house, those having been sent found the servant in good health.	And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.	Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
11	And it came to pass on the next day that He went into a city called Nain, and His disciples were going with Him, and a great crowd.	Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him.	Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him.
12	And as He drew near to the gate of the city, then, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only begotten son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd of the city was with her.	As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13	And having seen her, the Lord was moved with compassion toward her and said to her, “Do not weep.”	And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”	When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14	And having come up, He touched the bier; and those bearing it stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!”	Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”	Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!”
15	And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and He gave him to his mother.	And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.	The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16	And fear took all, and they were glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet arose among us!” and, “God visited His people!”	Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!”	They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.”
17	And the word of this went forth in all Judea about Him—and in all the surrounding region.	And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.	This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
18	And his disciples reported to John about all these things.	The disciples of John reported all these things to him. And John,	John’s disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them,
19	And having summoned a certain two of his disciples, John sent to the Lord, saying, “Are You the coming One, or do we look for another?”	calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?”	he sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”
20	And having come to Him, the men said, “John the Baptist sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the coming One, or do we look for another?’”	And when the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?’”	When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’”
21	In that very hour, He healed many of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits, and to many blind He granted to see.	In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight.	At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind.
22	And answering, He said to them, “Having gone, report to John what you⁺ saw and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed.	And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them.	So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
23	And blessed is the one who shall not be caused to stumble in Me.”	And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”	Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
24	And the messengers of John having gone away, He began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you⁺ go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?	When John’s messengers had gone, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?	After John’s messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?
25	But what did you⁺ go out to see? A man arrayed in soft garments? Behold, those in splendid clothing and living in luxury are in the palaces.	What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are dressed in splendid clothing and live in luxury are in kings’ courts.	If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces.
26	But what did you⁺ go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you⁺, and more than a prophet.	What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.	But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
27	This is he about whom it has been written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.’	This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’	This is the one about whom it is written: “’I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’
28	I say to you⁺, no one among those born of women is greater than John; yet the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”	I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”	I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
29	And all the people having heard, even the tax collectors, declared God righteous, having been baptized with the baptism of John.	(When all the people heard this, and the tax collectors too, they declared God just, having been baptized with the baptism of John,	(All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John.
30	But the Pharisees and the lawyers set aside the counsel of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.	but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.)	But the Pharisees and the experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.)
31	“To what, therefore, will I liken the men of this generation? And to what are they like?	“To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?	Jesus went on to say, “To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like?
32	They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: ‘We played the flute for you⁺, and you⁺ did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you⁺ did not weep.’	They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’	They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: “’We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’
33	For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you⁺ say, ‘He has a demon!’	For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’	For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’
34	The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you⁺ say, ‘Behold, a man, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners!’	The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’	The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
35	And wisdom was justified from all her children.”	Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.”	But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
36	And one of the Pharisees was requesting of Him that He should eat with him, and having entered into the house of the Pharisee, He reclined.	One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.	When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.
37	And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner. And having known that He is reclining in the house of the Pharisee, having taken an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,	And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment,	A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.
38	and having stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and she was wiping them with the hairs of her head, and she was kissing His feet and was anointing them with the fragrant oil.	and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.	As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39	And the Pharisee, the one having called Him, having seen, spoke within himself, saying, “If this man were a prophet, He would have known who and what kind the woman is who touches Him—because she is a sinner.”	Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”	When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40	And answering, Jesus said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he says, “Teacher, say it.”	And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.”	Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41	“There were two debtors to a certain lender. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	“A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.	“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42	Of them having nothing to repay, he forgave both. Therefore which of them will love him more?”	When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?”	Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43	Answering, Simon said, “I suppose he to whom he forgave the more.” And He said to him, “You judged correctly.”	Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.”	Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44	And having turned to the woman, He was saying to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house; you did not give water for My feet, but she herself wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.	Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.	Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
45	You did not give to Me a kiss, but from which time I entered, she herself did not cease kissing My feet.	You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet.	You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.
46	You did not anoint My head with oil, but she herself anointed My feet with fragrant oil.	You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.	You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.
47	Therefore I say to you this: Her many sins have been forgiven, because she loved much; but to whom little is forgiven, he loves little.”	Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.”	Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48	And He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.”	And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”	Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49	And those reclining with Him began to say within themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”	Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”	The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50	And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”	And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”	Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
