1	And it came to pass on a Sabbath that He is passing through grainfields, and His disciples were plucking and were eating the heads of grain, rubbing them in the hands.	On a Sabbath, while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands.	One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.
2	But some of the Pharisees said, “Why do you⁺ do what is not lawful on the Sabbaths?”	But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?”	Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”
3	And answering, Jesus said to them, “Did you⁺ not even read this, what David did when he was hungry—he and those being with him:	And Jesus answered them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:	Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
4	how he entered into the house of God and, having taken the loaves of the presentation, he ate and gave to those with him—which it is not lawful to eat, except only for the priests?”	how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?”	He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.”
5	And He was saying to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”	And he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”	Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6	And it came to pass on another Sabbath that He entered into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there, and his right hand was withered.	On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered.	On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled.
7	And the scribes and the Pharisees were closely watching Him, whether He heals on the Sabbath, so that they might find reason to accuse Him.	And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him.	The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.
8	And He had known their reasonings, and He said to the man having the withered hand, “Arise and stand in the midst.” And having risen up, he stood.	But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there.	But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9	Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you⁺, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?”	And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?”	Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10	And having looked around at them all, He said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did, and his hand was restored.	And after looking around at them all he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored.	He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored.
11	And they were filled with madness, and they were discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.	But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.	But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
12	And it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God.	In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.	One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

20	And He, having lifted up His eyes to His disciples, was saying: “Blessed are the poor, because yours⁺ is the kingdom of God. Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21	Blessed are those hungering now, because you⁺ will be filled. Blessed are those weeping now, because you⁺ will laugh.	“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.	Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
22	Blessed are you⁺ when men may hate you⁺, and when they may exclude you⁺ and may reproach you and may cast out your⁺ name as evil, on account of the Son of Man.	“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!	Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
23	Rejoice in that day and leap, for behold, your⁺ reward is great in heaven. For according to the same their fathers were doing to the prophets.	Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.	“Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.
24	But woe to you⁺ who are rich, because you⁺ have your⁺ comfort in full.	“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.	“But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.
25	Woe to you⁺ who have been filled now, because you⁺ will hunger. Woe to those laughing now, because you⁺ will mourn and weep.	“Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. “Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.	Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
26	Woe when all men may speak well of you⁺, for according to the same their fathers were doing to the false prophets.	“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.	Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.
27	But to you⁺ who are hearing I say: Love your⁺ enemies, do good to those hating you⁺,	“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,	“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28	bless those cursing you⁺, pray for those mistreating you⁺.	bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.	bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
29	To the one striking you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from the one taking away your cloak, do not withhold also your tunic.	To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either.	If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
30	To everyone asking you, give, and from the one taking away what is yours⁺, do not demand it back.	Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.	Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
31	And just as you⁺ want that men may do to you⁺, do to them likewise.	And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.	Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32	And if you⁺ love those loving you⁺, what grace is it to you⁺? For even the sinners love those loving them.	“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.	“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
33	For even if you⁺ do good to those doing good to you⁺, what grace is it to you⁺? Even the sinners do the same.	And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.	And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
34	And if you⁺ lend to those from whom you⁺ expect to receive back, what grace is it to you⁺? Even sinners lend to sinners, that they might receive back the equivalent.	And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount.	And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
35	But love your⁺ enemies, and do good, and lend expecting nothing back. And your⁺ reward will be great, and you⁺ will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and evil.	But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.	But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36	Be merciful, as also your⁺ Father is merciful.	Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.	Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
37	And do not judge, and you⁺ shall not be judged; and do not condemn, and you⁺ shall not be condemned; release, and you⁺ will be released.	“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;	“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38	Give, and it will be given to you⁺. A good measure, pressed down, shaken, running over, they will give into your⁺ bosom. For with what measure you⁺ measure, it will be measured back to you⁺.”	give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. 39	And He also spoke a parable to them: “Is a blind man able to guide a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?	He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? 40	A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone fully trained will be like his teacher.	A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.	The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.
41	And why do you look at the splinter that is in the eye of your brother, but not notice the beam that is in your own eye?	Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?	“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
42	How are you able to say to your brother, ‘Brother, permit that I might cast out the splinter that is in your eye,’ yourself not seeing the beam in your eye? Hypocrite! First cast out the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the splinter that is in the eye of your brother.	How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.	How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
43	For there is no good tree producing rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree producing good fruit.	“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit,	“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.
44	For each tree is known by its own fruit. For they do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a bramble bush.	for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.	Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers.
45	The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good, and the evil out of the evil brings forth what is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.	The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.	A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
46	And why do you⁺ call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?	“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?	“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
47	Everyone who is coming to Me and hearing My words and doing them, I will show you⁺ whom he is like.	Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like:	As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.
48	He is like a man building a house, who dug and deepened and laid a foundation on the rock. And a flood having come, the river burst upon that house, and it was not able to shake it, because it was well built.	he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.	They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
49	But the one having heard and not having done is like a man having built a house on the ground without a foundation, on which the river burst, and immediately it fell—and the ruin of that house was great!”	But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”	But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
