1	Nowe the first day of the weeke early in the morning, they came vnto the sepulchre, and brought the odours, which they had prepared, and certaine women with them.	But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 5	And as they were afraide, & bowed downe their faces to the earth, they sayd to them, Why seeke ye him that liueth, among the dead?	And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?	In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
6	He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake vnto you, when he was yet in Galile,	He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,	He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
7	Saying, that the sonne of man must be deliuered into the hands of sinfull men, and be crucified, and the third day rise againe.	that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”	The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ “
8	And they remembred his wordes,	And they remembered his words,	Then they remembered his words.
9	And returned from the sepulchre, & tolde all these things vnto the eleuen, and to all the remnant.	and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.	When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.
10	Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Ioanna, and Mary the mother of Iames, and other women with them, which tolde these things vnto the Apostles.	Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,	It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.
11	But their wordes seemed vnto them, as a fained thing, neither beleeued they them.	but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.	But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.
12	Then arose Peter, and ran vnto the sepulchre, & looked in, & saw the linnen clothes laide by themselues, and departed wondering in himselfe at that which was come to passe.	But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.	Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
13	And beholde, two of them went that same day to a towne which was from Hierusalem about threescore furlongs, called Emmaus.	That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,	Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.
14	And they talked together of al these things that were done.	and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.	They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.
15	And it came to passe, as they communed together, and reasoned, that Iesus himselfe drewe neere, and went with them. 16	But their eyes were holden, that they could not know him.	But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.	but they were kept from recognizing him.
17	And he sayd vnto them, What maner of communications are these that ye haue one to another as ye walke and are sad?	And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad.	He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast.
18	And the one (named Cleopas) answered, and sayd vnto him, Art thou onely a stranger in Hierusalem, & hast not knowen the things which are come to passe therein in these dayes?	Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”	One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19	And he said vnto them, What things? And they sayd vnto him, Of Iesus of Nazareth, which was a Prophet, mightie in deede and in word before God, and all people,	And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,	“What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.
20	And howe the hie Priests, and our rulers deliuered him to be condemned to death, and haue crucified him.	and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.	The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;
21	But we trusted that it had bene he that should haue deliuered Israel, and as touching all these things, to day is ye third day, that they were done.	But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.	but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.
22	Yea, & certaine women among vs made vs astonied, which came early vnto the sepulchre.	Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning,	In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning
23	And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seene a vision of Angels, which sayd, that he was aliue.	and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.	but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.
24	Therefore certaine of them which were with vs, went to the sepulchre, and found it euen so as the women had sayd, but him they saw not.	Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”	Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
25	Then he sayd vnto them, O fooles and slowe of heart to beleeue all that the Prophets haue spoken!	And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!	He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26	Ought not Christ to haue suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?	Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”	Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”
27	And he began at Moses, & at all the Prophets, and interpreted vnto them in all the Scriptures the things which were written of him.	And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.	And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28	And they drew neere vnto ye towne, which they went to, but he made as though hee would haue gone further.	So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther,	As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther.
29	But they constrained him, saying, Abide with vs: for it is towards night, & the day is farre spent. So he went in to tarie with them.	but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them.	But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30	And it came to passe, as hee sate at table with them, he tooke the bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gaue it to them.	When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.	When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.
31	Then their eyes were opened, and they knewe him: and he was no more seene of them.	And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight.	Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.
32	And they saide betweene themselues, Did not our heartes burne within vs, while he talked with vs by the way, and when he opened to vs the Scriptures?	They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”	They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
33	And they rose vp the same houre, and returned to Hierusalem, and found the Eleuen gathered together, and them that were with them,	And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,	They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together
34	Which said, The Lord is risen in deede, and hath appeared to Simon.	saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”	and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”
35	Then they tolde what things were done in the way, and howe he was knowen of them in breaking of bread.	Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.	Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
36	And as they spake these things, Iesus himselfe stoode in the middes of them, and saide vnto them, Peace be to you.	As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”	While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
37	But they were abashed and afraide, supposing that they had seene a spirit.	But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.	They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
38	Then he saide vnto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore doe doutes arise in your hearts?	And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?	He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?
39	Beholde mine handes and my feete: for it is I my selfe: handle me, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me haue.	See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”	Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40	And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and feete.	And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.	When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
41	And while they yet beleeued not for ioy, and wondred, he saide vnto them, Haue ye here any meate?	And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”	And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
42	And they gaue him a piece of a broyled fish, and of an honie combe,	They gave him a piece of broiled fish,	They gave him a piece of broiled fish,
43	And hee tooke it, and did eate before them.	and he took it and ate before them.	and he took it and ate it in their presence.
44	And he saide vnto them, These are the wordes, which I spake vnto you while I was yet with you, that all must be fulfilled which are written of me in the Lawe of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalmes.	Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”	He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45	Then opened he their vnderstanding, that they might vnderstand the Scriptures,	Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,	Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
46	And said vnto them, Thus is it written, and thus it behoued Christ to suffer, and to rise againe from the dead the third day,	and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,	He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
47	And that repentance, and remission of sinnes should be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning at Hierusalem.	and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.	and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48	Nowe ye are witnesses of these things.	You are witnesses of these things.	You are witnesses of these things.
49	And beholde, I doe sende the promes of my Father vpon you: but tary ye in the citie of Hierusalem, vntill ye be endued with power from an hie.	And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”	I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
50	Afterward he lead them out into Bethania, and lift vp his hands, and blessed them.	And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them.	When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51	And it came to passe, that as he blessed them, he departed from them, and was caried vp into heauen.	While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven.	While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
52	And they worshipped him, and returned to Hierusalem with great ioy,	And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,	Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
53	And were continually in the Temple, praysing, and lauding God, Amen.	and were continually in the temple blessing God.	And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.
