3	Retire: behold, I send you as lambs in the midst of wolves.	Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.	Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
4	Carry no purse, nor wallet, nor shoes: and greet none by the way.	Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road.	Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5	And in whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace to this house.	Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’	“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
6	And if truly the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: and if not so, it shall turn back to you.	And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.	If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
7	And remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things of them: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.	And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.	Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8	And in whatever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat the things set before you.	Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.	“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
9	And cure the sick in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.	Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’	Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10	And in whatever city ye enter, and they receive you not, having gone into its spacious ways, say,	But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,	But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
11	And the dust having cleaved to us from your city, we wipe off to you but know this, that the kingdom of God has drawn nigh to you.	‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’	Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’
12	And I say to you, that it shall be more supportable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13	Woe to thee Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if in Tyre and Sidon were the powers having been in you, long since had they changed the mind, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14	But for Tyre and Sidon shall it be more supportable in judgment, than for you.	But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.	But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15	And thou, Capernaum, indeed even lifted up to heaven, shalt be cast down to hades.	And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.	And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.
16	He hearing you hears me: and he rejecting you rejects me; and he rejecting me rejects him having sent me.	“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”	“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
17	And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, and the demons are subject to us in thy name.	The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”	The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18	And he said to them, I saw Satan as lightning fallen from heaven.	And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.	He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19	Behold, I give you power to tread above serpents and scorpions, and upon all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall hurt you.	Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.	I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
20	But in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, that your names were written in the heavens.	Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”	However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
21	In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I will acknowledge to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and intelligent, and hast revealed them to babes: yes Father, for so was it benevolence before thee.	In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.	At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22	All things were delivered me by my Father: and none knows who is the Son, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and to whomsoever the Son would wish to reveal.	All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”	“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
23	And having turned to the disciples apart he said, Happy the eyes seeing what ye see:	Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!	Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
24	For I say to you, that many prophets and kings wished to behold what ye see, and saw not; and to hear what ye hear, and heard not.	For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”	For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
25	And, behold, a certain skilled in the law stood up, tempting him, and saying, Teacher, what having done shall I inherit eternal life?	And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”	On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26	And he said to him, What has been written in the law? how readest thou?	He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”	“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27	And he having answered, said. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God from thy whole heart, and from thy whole soul, and from thy whole strength; and thy neighbor as thyself.	And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”	He answered, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28	And he said to him, Thou hast answered rightly; this do and thou shalt live.	And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”	“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29	And he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?	But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”	But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30	And Jesus having replied said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers: and having stripped him, and laid on blows, they departed, leaving him half dead.	Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.	In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31	And by accident a certain priest went down in that way: and having seen him, went on the opposite side.	Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.	A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
32	And likewise also a Levite, having been in the place, having come and seen him, went on the opposite side.	So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.	So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33	And a certain Samaritan, traveling, came to him: and having seen him, felt compassion.	But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.	But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
34	And having come near, he bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and having mounted him upon his own animal, he brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’	The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36	Which then of these three seems to thee to have been neighbor to him fallen among robbers?	Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”	“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37	And he said, He having done mercy with him. Then said Jesus to him. Go thou, and do likewise.	He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”	The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
38	And it was in their going forth, and he came to a certain town: and a certain woman by the name of Martha received him in her house.	Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.	As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39	And also a sister was to her, called Mary; and she having sat at Jesus' feet, heard his word.	And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.	She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
40	And Martha was perplexed about much service, and having stood before, said, Lord, carest thou not that my sister left me to serve alone? Speak therefore to her that she may lay hold and assist with me.	But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”	But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41	And Jesus having answered, said to her, Martha, Martha, thou hast care, and art confused about many things:	But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,	“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42	And of one thing there is need: and Mary has chosen the good part which shall not be taken away from her.	but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”	but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
