12	And the day began to decline: and the twelve having come near, said to him, Loose the crowd, that having departed into the towns round about and the fields, they might rest, and might find provisions; for here are we in a deserted place.	Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.”	Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”
13	And he said to them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, There are no more to us than five loaves and two fishes; except having gone we buy food for all this people.	But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”	He replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.”
14	For they were about five thou sand men. And he said to his disciples, Place them reclining by fifty in a place for reposing.	For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”	(About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”
15	And they did so, and they made all recline.	And they did so, and had them all sit down.	The disciples did so, and everyone sat down.
16	And having taken the five loaves and two fishes, having looked up to heaven, be praised them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the crowd. 19	And they having answered, said, John the Immerser; and others, Elias; and others, that a certain prophet of the ancients has risen up.	And they answered, “John the Baptist. But others say, Elijah, and others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.”	They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”
20	And he said to them, And whom say ye me to be? And Peter having answered said, The Christ of God.	Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”	“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
21	And he having censured them, enjoined them to tell this to no one;	And he strictly charged and commanded them to tell this to no one,	Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.
22	Saying, That the Son of man must suffer many things, and be disapproved of by the more ancient and the chief priests and the scribes, and be slain, and be raised up the third day.	saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”	And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
23	And he said to all, If any one wish to come after me, let him deny himself, and lift up his cross daily and let him follow me.	And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.	Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
24	For whoever would wish to save his soul shall lose it: and whoever should lose his soul for my sake, the same shall save it.	For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.	For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
25	For what is a man profited, having gained the whole world, and having lost himself, or having been damaged?	For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?	What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?
26	For whoever should be ashamed of me and my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he should come in the glory of himself, and of the Father, and of the holy messengers.	For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.	Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
27	And I say to you truly, certain are standing here, who shall not taste of death, till they should see the kingdom of God.	But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”	“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
28	And it was after these words about eight days, and having taken Peter and John and James, he went up into the mount to pray.	Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.	About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.
29	And it was in his praying, the look of his face was another, and his clothing white, shooting forth lightning.	And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.	As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
30	And, behold, two men were speaking with him, which were Moses and Elias:	And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah,	Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.

32	And Peter and they with him were heavy with sleep: and having waked, they saw his glory, and two men standing with him. 33	And it was in their having withdrawn from him, Peter said to Jesus, Ruler, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tents, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he says.	And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.	As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)
34	And he saying these things, there was a cloud, and it overshadowed them: and they were afraid in their going into the cloud.	As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.	While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
35	And there was a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly beloved Son: hear him.	And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”	A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”
36	And in there having been a voice, Jesus was found alone. And they were silent, and announced nothing to any one in those days, of what they had seen.	And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.	When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.
37	And it was in the day following, they having come down from the mountain, there met him a great crowd.	On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.	The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him.
38	And, behold, a man from the crowd cried out, saying, Teacher, I implore thee look upon my son: for he is my only born.	And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. 39	And, behold, a spirit takes him, and suddenly he cries out; and it tears him with foam, and with difficulty withdraws from him, bruising him. A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him.
40	And I implored thy disciples that they cast it out; and they could not.	And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.”	I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”
41	And Jesus having answered said, O faithless and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you, and endure you I Bring hither thy son.	Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.”	“You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
42	And he yet coming near, the demon rent him, and tare him. And Jesus censured the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and gave him back to his father.	While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.	Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father.
43	And all were struck with amazement at the majesty of God. And all wondering at all which he did, Jesus said to his disciples,	And all were astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples,	And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
44	Put ye these words into your ears: for the Son of man is about to be delivered up into the bands of men.	“Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.”	“Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”
45	And they knew not this word, and it was hid from them, lest they should understand it: and they feared to ask him concerning this word.	But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.	But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
46	And there came up a conference among them, thus, which of them should be the greatest.	An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest.	An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.
47	And Jesus, having seen the reflection of their heart, having taken up a child, set it by himself,	But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side	Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him.
48	And he said to them, Whoever should receive this child in my name receives me: and whoever should receive me, receives him having sent me: for he being less among you all, the same shall be great.	and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great.”	Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”
49	And John having answered said, Ruler, we saw a certain one casting out demons in thy name; and we hindered him, because he follows not with us.	John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.”	“Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”
50	And Jesus said, Hinder him not: for who is not against us is for us.	But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.”	“Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”
51	And it was in the days of his acceptation being completed, and he fixed his face to go into Jerusalem.	When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.	As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
52	And he sent messengers before his face: and having gone, they came into a town of Samaritans, in order to prepare for him.	And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him.	And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;
53	And they received him not, for his face was going to Jerusalem.	But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.	but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
54	And his disciples James and John having seen, said, O Lord, wilt thou that we should speak fire to come down from heaven, and destroy them, as also did Elias?	And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”	When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?”
55	And having turned he censured them, and said, Ye know not of what sort of spirit ye are.	But he turned and rebuked them.	But Jesus turned and rebuked them.
56	For the Son of man came not to destroy men's souls, but to save them. And they proceeded into another town:	And they went on to another village.	Then he and his disciples went to another village.
57	And it was, they going in the way, a certain one said to him, I will follow thee wherever thou shouldest go forth, Lord.	As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”	As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58	And Jesus said to him, Foxes have dens, and fowls of heaven encampments; but the Son of man has not where he might lay down the head.	And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”	Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
59	And he said to another, Follow me. And he said, Lord, permit me having gone, first to inter my father.	To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”	He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60	And Jesus said to him, Permit the dead to inter their own dead; and thou, having gone, announce the kingdom of God.	And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”	Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61	And another said, I will follow thee, Lord; and first permit me to take leave of those in my house.	Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.”	Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62	And Jesus said to him, No one putting his hand upon the plough, and looking back, is adapted to the kingdom of God.	Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”	Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
