Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.1Ἐὰν ταῖς γλώσσαις τῶν ἀνθρώπων λαλῶ καὶ τῶν ἀγγέλων ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω γέγονα χαλκὸς ἠχῶν κύμβαλον ἀλαλάζον
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.2καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω προφητείαν καὶ εἰδῶ τὰ μυστήρια πάντα καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γνῶσιν καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω πᾶσαν τὴν πίστιν ὥστε ὄρη μεθιστάναι ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω οὐθέν εἰμι
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.3καὶ ἐὰν ψωμίσω πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντά μου καὶ ἐὰν παραδῶ τὸ σῶμά μου ἵνα [καυχήσωμαι] ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω οὐδὲν ὠφελοῦμαι
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,4 ἀγάπη μακροθυμεῖ χρηστεύεται ἀγάπη οὐ ζηλοῖ ἀγάπη οὐ περπερεύεται οὐ φυσιοῦται
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;5οὐκ ἀσχημονεῖ οὐ ζητεῖ τὰ ἑαυτῆς οὐ παροξύνεται οὐ λογίζεται τὸ κακόν
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;6οὐ χαίρει ἐπὶ τῇ ἀδικίᾳ συνχαίρει δὲ τῇ ἀληθείᾳ
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.7πάντα στέγει πάντα πιστεύει πάντα ἐλπίζει πάντα ὑπομένει
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.8 ἀγάπη οὐδέποτε πίπτει εἴτε δὲ προφητεῖαι καταργηθήσονται εἴτε γλῶσσαι παύσονται εἴτε γνῶσις καταργηθήσεται
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.9ἐκ μέρους γὰρ γινώσκομεν καὶ ἐκ μέρους προφητεύομεν
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.10ὅταν δὲ ἔλθῃ τὸ τέλειον τὸ ἐκ μέρους καταργηθήσεται
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.11Ὅτε ἤμην νήπιος ἐλάλουν ὡς νήπιος ἐφρόνουν ὡς νήπιος ἐλογιζόμην ὡς νήπιος ὅτε γέγονα ἀνήρ κατήργηκα τὰ τοῦ νηπίου
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.12βλέπομεν γὰρ ἄρτι δι’ ἐσόπτρου ἐν αἰνίγματι τότε δὲ πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον ἄρτι γινώσκω ἐκ μέρους τότε δὲ ἐπιγνώσομαι καθὼς καὶ ἐπεγνώσθην
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.13Νυνὶ δὲ μένει πίστις ἐλπίς ἀγάπη τὰ τρία ταῦτα μείζων δὲ τούτων ἀγάπη
