Mark 5
Lamsa Bible Par ▾
1AND they reached the port on the other side of the sea, in the country of the Gadarenes. 2And as he went out of the boat, he was met by a man from the cemetery, who had an unclean spirit. 3He lived in the cemetery, and no man could bind him in chains; 4Because whenever he was bound with fetters and chains, he broke the chains and cut the fetters, and no man could control him. 5And always, night and day, he was in the cemetery and in the mountains, crying aloud and cutting himself with stones. 6When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him, 7And he cried with a loud voice and said, What have we got together, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I adjure you by God, not to torment me. 8For he said to him, Get out of the man, O you unclean spirit. 9And he asked him, What is your name? And he said to him, Our name is Legion, because we are many. 10And he begged him much that he would not send him out of the country. 11Now there was there, near the mountain a large herd of swine feeding. 12And the lunatics begged him saying, Send us to the swine, that we may attack them. 13And he permitted them. And the lunatics went out, and attacked the swine; and the herd ran to the steep rocks, and fell into the sea; they were about two thousand, and they were drowned in the water.

14And those who fed them, fled, and told it in the city and also in the villages. So they went out to see what had happened. 15And they came to Jesus, and saw the lunatic, clothed and well behaved, and sitting down; even the one who once had the legion within him; and they were afraid. 16And those who saw it told them just how it happened to the lunatic and also to the swine. 17So they began to urge him to leave their border. 18As he went up to the boat, the lunatic begged him to remain with him. 19And he would not permit him, but said to him, Go to your home, to your own people, and tell them what the Lord has done for you, and had mercy on you. 20And he went away, and began to preach in the ten cities about what Jesus had done for him; and they were all surprised.

21When Jesus crossed in the boat to the other side, large crowds again gathered around him, while he was by the sea. 22And there came one of the leaders of the synagogue, whose name was Jairus; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, 23And he beseeched him much and said to him, My daughter is very seriously ill; come and lay your hand on her, and she will be healed, and live. 24So Jesus went with him; and a large multitude followed him, and they pressed on him.

25And there was a woman who had had the hemorrhage for twelve years, 26Who had suffered much at the hands of many doctors, and had spent everything she had, and was not helped at all, but rather became worse. 27When she heard concerning Jesus, she came through the dense crowd from behind him, and touched his cloak. 28For she said, If I can only touch his cloak, I will live. 29And immediately the hemorrhage was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30Jesus instantly knew that some power had gone out of him; so he turned around to the people and said, Who touched my garments? 31His disciples said to him, You see the people pressing on you, and yet you say, Who touched me? 32And he was looking round to see who had done this. 33But the woman, frightened and trembling, because she knew what had happened to her, came and fell before him and told him the whole truth. 34He said to her, My daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.

35While he was still talking, some men came from the house of the leader of the synagogue, saying, Your daughter is dead; why do you trouble the Teacher? 36Jesus heard the word which they spoke, and he said to the leader of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe. 37And he did not permit any man to go with him, except Simon Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. 38And they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, and he saw them in a tumult, weeping and wailing. 39So he entered and said to them, Why are you excited and crying? The little girl is not dead, but she is asleep. 40And they laughed at him. But Jesus put them all out, and took the little girl’s father and mother and those who were with him, and he entered where the little girl was laid. 41And he took the little girl by her hand, and said to her, Talitha, koomi, which means, Little girl, rise up. 42And immediately the little girl got up and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. 43But he commanded them that no man should know this; and he told them to give her something to eat.
