This is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God or see this great fire anymore, so that we will not die!"

All the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain in smoke. And when the people saw this, they trembled and stood at a distance.
"Speak to us yourself and we will listen," they said to Moses. "But do not let God speak to us, or we will die."
And when you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was blazing with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me,
But now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us, and we will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.
And the LORD wrote on the tablets what had been written previously, the Ten Commandments that He had spoken to you on the mountain out of the fire on the day of the assembly. The LORD gave them to me,
