Tell of His Wonders
(1 Chronicles 16:7–22)

הוֹד֣וּ (Give thanks) לַ֭יהוָה (to YHWH); קִרְא֣וּ (call) בִּשְׁמ֑וֹ (on His name);

הוֹדִ֥יעוּ (make known) בָ֝עַמִּ֗ים (among the nations) עֲלִילוֹתָֽיו׃ (His deeds).

2  שִֽׁירוּ־ (Sing) ל֭וֹ (to Him), זַמְּרוּ־ (make music) ל֑וֹ (to Him);

שִׂ֝֗יחוּ (meditate) בְּכָל־ (on all) נִפְלְאוֹתָֽיו׃ (His wonders).

3  הִֽ֭תְהַלְלוּ (Glory) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (in the name) קָדְשׁ֑וֹ (of His holiness);

יִ֝שְׂמַ֗ח (let rejoice) לֵ֤ב׀ (the heart) מְבַקְשֵׁ֬י (of those seeking) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

4  דִּרְשׁ֣וּ (Search after) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) וְעֻזּ֑וֹ (and His strength);

בַּקְּשׁ֖וּ (seek) פָנָ֣יו (His face) תָּמִֽיד׃ (continually).

5  זִכְר֗וּ (Remember) נִפְלְאוֹתָ֥יו (His wonders) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) עָשָׂ֑ה (He has done)—

מֹ֝פְתָ֗יו (His wonders) וּמִשְׁפְּטֵי־ (and the judgments) פִֽיו׃ (of His mouth)—

6  זֶ֭רַע (O seed) אַבְרָהָ֣ם (of Abraham) עַבְדּ֑וֹ (His servant),

בְּנֵ֖י (O sons) יַעֲקֹ֣ב (of Jacob) בְּחִירָֽיו׃ (His chosen ones).

7  ה֭וּא (He is) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ (our God);

בְּכָל־ (over all) הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ (the earth) מִשְׁפָּטָֽיו׃ (are His judgments).

8  זָכַ֣ר (He remembers) לְעוֹלָ֣ם (forever) בְּרִית֑וֹ (His covenant)—

דָּבָ֥ר (the word) צִ֝וָּ֗ה (He commanded) לְאֶ֣לֶף (for a thousand) דּֽוֹר׃ (generations)—

9  אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that which) כָּ֭רַת (He cut) אֶת־ (with) אַבְרָהָ֑ם (Abraham),

וּשְׁב֖וּעָת֣וֹ (and His oath) לְיִשְׂחָֽק׃ (to Isaac).

10  וַיַּֽעֲמִידֶ֣הָ (And He established it) לְיַעֲקֹ֣ב (to Jacob) לְחֹ֑ק (as a decree),

לְ֝יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (to Israel) בְּרִ֣ית (as a covenant) עוֹלָֽם׃ (forever),

11  לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), לְךָ֗ (To you) אֶתֵּ֥ן (I will give) אֶת־ (-) אֶֽרֶץ־ (the land) כְּנָ֑עַן (of Canaan)

חֶ֝֗בֶל (the portion) נַחֲלַתְכֶֽם׃ (of your⁺ inheritance).

12  בִּֽ֭הְיוֹתָם (In their being) מְתֵ֣י (few) מִסְפָּ֑ר (in number),

כִּ֝מְעַ֗ט (few indeed), וְגָרִ֥ים (and strangers) בָּֽהּ׃ (in it),

13  וַֽ֭יִּתְהַלְּכוּ (and they went about) מִגּ֣וֹי (from nation) אֶל־ (to) גּ֑וֹי (nation),

מִ֝מַּמְלָכָ֗ה (from a kingdom) אֶל־ (to) עַ֥ם (people) אַחֵֽר׃ (another).

14  לֹֽא־ (Not) הִנִּ֣יחַ (He has permitted) אָדָ֣ם (man) לְעָשְׁקָ֑ם (to oppress them),

וַיּ֖וֹכַח (and He rebuked) עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם (for them) מְלָכִֽים׃ (kings):

15  אַֽל־ (Not) תִּגְּע֥וּ (shall you⁺ touch) בִמְשִׁיחָ֑י (My anointed ones),

וְ֝לִנְבִיאַי (and to My prophets) אַל־ (not) תָּרֵֽעוּ׃ (shall you⁺ do evil).

16  וַיִּקְרָ֣א (And He called down) רָ֭עָב (famine) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the land);

כָּֽל־ (all) מַטֵּה־ (the staff) לֶ֥חֶם (of bread) שָׁבָֽר׃ (He has broken).

17  שָׁלַ֣ח (He sent) לִפְנֵיהֶ֣ם (before them) אִ֑ישׁ (a man)

לְ֝עֶ֗בֶד (as a slave) נִמְכַּ֥ר (to be sold)— יוֹסֵֽף׃ (Joseph).

18  עִנּ֣וּ (They afflicted) בַכֶּ֣בֶל (with the fetters) רַגְלָיו (his feet);

בַּ֝רְזֶ֗ל (into iron) בָּ֣אָה (came) נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ (his neck),

19  עַד־ (until) עֵ֥ת (the time) בֹּֽא־ (of the coming) דְבָר֑וֹ (of His word)—

אִמְרַ֖ת (the word) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) צְרָפָֽתְהוּ׃ (tried him).

20  שָׁ֣לַח (Sent) מֶ֭לֶךְ (the king) וַיַּתִּירֵ֑הוּ (and released him)—

מֹשֵׁ֥ל (the ruler) עַ֝מִּ֗ים (of the peoples)— וַֽיְפַתְּחֵֽהוּ׃ (and drew him out).

21  שָׂמ֣וֹ (He made him) אָד֣וֹן (lord) לְבֵית֑וֹ (of his house),

וּ֝מֹשֵׁ֗ל (and ruler) בְּכָל־ (of all) קִנְיָנֽוֹ׃ (his substance),

22  לֶאְסֹ֣ר (to bind) שָׂרָ֣יו (his princes) בְּנַפְשׁ֑וֹ (by his soul),

וּזְקֵנָ֥יו (and his elders) יְחַכֵּֽם׃ (to make wise).

23  וַיָּבֹ֣א (And came) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (Israel) מִצְרָ֑יִם (to Egypt),

וְ֝יַעֲקֹ֗ב (and Jacob) גָּ֣ר (resided) בְּאֶֽרֶץ־ (in the land) חָֽם׃ (of Ham).

24  וַיֶּ֣פֶר (And He made fruitful) אֶת־ (-) עַמּ֣וֹ (His people) מְאֹ֑ד (exceedingly)

וַ֝יַּֽעֲצִמֵהוּ (and made them mightier) מִצָּרָֽיו׃ (than their enemies).

25  הָפַ֣ךְ (He turned) לִ֭בָּם (their heart) לִשְׂנֹ֣א (to hate) עַמּ֑וֹ (His people),

לְ֝הִתְנַכֵּ֗ל (to act deceitfully) בַּעֲבָדָֽיו׃ (with His servants).

26  שָׁ֭לַח (He sent) מֹשֶׁ֣ה (Moses) עַבְדּ֑וֹ (His servant)

אַ֝הֲרֹ֗ן (Aaron) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) בָּֽחַר־ (He made choice) בּֽוֹ׃ (on him).

27  שָֽׂמוּ־ (They set) בָ֭ם (among them) דִּבְרֵ֣י (the words) אֹתוֹתָ֑יו (of His signs)

וּ֝מֹפְתִ֗ים (and wonders) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) חָֽם׃ (of Ham).

28  שָׁ֣לַֽח (He sent) חֹ֭שֶׁךְ (darkness) וַיַּחְשִׁ֑ךְ (and it became dark),

וְלֹֽא־ (and not) מָ֝ר֗וּ (did they rebel) אֶת־ (against) דְּבָרָוו׃ (His words).

29  הָפַ֣ךְ (He turned) אֶת־ (-) מֵימֵיהֶ֣ם (their waters) לְדָ֑ם (to blood)

וַ֝יָּ֗מֶת (and He put to death) אֶת־ (-) דְּגָתָֽם׃ (their fish).

30  שָׁרַ֣ץ (Swarmed) אַרְצָ֣ם (their land) צְפַרְדְּעִ֑ים (with frogs),

בְּ֝חַדְרֵ֗י (in the inner chambers) מַלְכֵיהֶֽם׃ (of their kings).

31  אָ֭מַר (He spoke), וַיָּבֹ֣א (and came) עָרֹ֑ב (and the swarm),

כִּ֝נִּ֗ים (gnats) בְּכָל־ (in all) גְּבוּלָֽם׃ (their country).

32  נָתַ֣ן (He gave) גִּשְׁמֵיהֶ֣ם (for rain) בָּרָ֑ד (hail),

אֵ֖שׁ (fire) לֶהָב֣וֹת (of flames) בְּאַרְצָֽם׃ (in their land).

33  וַיַּ֣ךְ (And He struck) גַּ֭פְנָם (their vines) וּתְאֵנָתָ֑ם (and their fig trees),

וַ֝יְשַׁבֵּ֗ר (and He shattered) עֵ֣ץ (the trees) גְּבוּלָֽם׃ (of their country).

34  אָ֭מַר (He spoke) וַיָּבֹ֣א (and came) אַרְבֶּ֑ה (the locust)

וְ֝יֶ֗לֶק (and the young locust), וְאֵ֣ין (without) מִסְפָּֽר׃ (number),

35  וַיֹּ֣אכַל (and it ate up) כָּל־ (every) עֵ֣שֶׂב (herb) בְּאַרְצָ֑ם (in their land),

וַ֝יֹּ֗אכַל (and it devoured) פְּרִ֣י (the fruit) אַדְמָתָֽם׃ (of their ground).

36  וַיַּ֣ךְ (And He struck) כָּל־ (all) בְּכ֣וֹר (the firstborn) בְּאַרְצָ֑ם (in their land),

רֵ֝אשִׁ֗ית (the firstfruits) לְכָל־ (of all) אוֹנָֽם׃ (their vigor).

37  וַֽ֭יּוֹצִיאֵם (And He brought them out) בְּכֶ֣סֶף (with silver) וְזָהָ֑ב (and gold),

וְאֵ֖ין (and there were none) בִּשְׁבָטָ֣יו (among His tribes) כּוֹשֵֽׁל׃ (stumbling).

38  שָׂמַ֣ח (Was glad) מִצְרַ֣יִם (Egypt) בְּצֵאתָ֑ם (in their going out),

כִּֽי־ (for) נָפַ֖ל (had fallen) פַּחְדָּ֣ם (the dread of them) עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ (upon them).

39  פָּרַ֣שׂ (He spread) עָנָ֣ן (a cloud) לְמָסָ֑ךְ (for a screen)

וְ֝אֵ֗שׁ (and fire) לְהָאִ֥יר (to light up) לָֽיְלָה׃ (the night).

40  שָׁאַ֣ל (They asked) וַיָּבֵ֣א (and He brought) שְׂלָ֑ו (quail),

וְלֶ֥חֶם (and with the bread) שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם (of the heavens) יַשְׂבִּיעֵֽם׃ (He satisfied them).

41  פָּ֣תַח (He opened) צ֭וּר (the rock), וַיָּז֣וּבוּ (gushed from it) מָ֑יִם (waters);

הָ֝לְכ֗וּ (they went forth) בַּצִּיּ֥וֹת (in the desert)— נָהָֽר׃ (like a river).

42  כִּֽי־ (For) זָ֭כַר (He remembered) אֶת־ (-) דְּבַ֣ר (the word) קָדְשׁ֑וֹ (of His holiness) אֶֽת־ (-)

אַבְרָהָ֥ם (to Abraham) עַבְדּֽוֹ׃ (His servant).

43  וַיּוֹצִ֣א (And He brought out) עַמּ֣וֹ (His people) בְשָׂשׂ֑וֹן (with rejoicing),

בְּ֝רִנָּ֗ה (with a shout of joy) אֶת־ (-) בְּחִירָֽיו׃ (His chosen).

44  וַיִּתֵּ֣ן (And He gave) לָ֭הֶם (to them) אַרְצ֣וֹת (the lands) גּוֹיִ֑ם (of the nations),

וַעֲמַ֖ל (and the labor) לְאֻמִּ֣ים (of the peoples) יִירָֽשׁוּ׃ (they possessed),

45  בַּעֲב֤וּר׀ (that) יִשְׁמְר֣וּ (they may keep) חֻ֭קָּיו (His statutes)

וְתוֹרֹתָ֥יו (and His laws) יִנְצֹ֗רוּ (obey).

הַֽלְלוּ־ (Hallelu) יָֽהּ׃ (YAH)!
