Punishments for Disobedience
(Leviticus 26:14–39; Deuteronomy 28:15–68)

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  וְאֶל־ (And to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֘ל (of Israel) תֹּאמַר֒ (you shall say), אִ֣ישׁ (Any) אִישׁ֩ (man) מִבְּנֵ֨י (from the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל (of Israel), וּמִן־ (and from) הַגֵּ֣ר׀ (the sojourner) הַגָּ֣ר (who is sojourning) בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (in Israel), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יִתֵּ֧ן (gives) מִזַּרְע֛וֹ (from his seed) לַמֹּ֖לֶךְ (to Molech), מ֣וֹת (dying) יוּמָ֑ת (he must be put to death). עַ֥ם (The people) הָאָ֖רֶץ (of the land) יִרְגְּמֻ֥הוּ (shall stone him) בָאָֽבֶן׃ (with stones). 3  וַאֲנִ֞י (And I) אֶתֵּ֤ן (will set) אֶת־ (-) פָּנַי֙ (My face) בָּאִ֣ישׁ (against the man) הַה֔וּא (that), וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י (and I will cut him off) אֹת֖וֹ (-) מִקֶּ֣רֶב (from among) עַמּ֑וֹ (his people), כִּ֤י (for) מִזַּרְעוֹ֙ (from his seed) נָתַ֣ן (he has given) לַמֹּ֔לֶךְ (to Molech) לְמַ֗עַן (to) טַמֵּא֙ (defile) אֶת־ (-) מִקְדָּשִׁ֔י (My sanctuary) וּלְחַלֵּ֖ל (and to profane) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֥ם (name) קָדְשִֽׁי׃ (My holy).

4  וְאִ֡ם (And if) הַעְלֵ֣ם (hiding) יַעְלִימֽוּ֩ (they hide) עַ֨ם (the people) הָאָ֜רֶץ (of the land) אֶת־ (-) עֵֽינֵיהֶם֙ (their eyes) מִן־ (from) הָאִ֣ישׁ (man) הַה֔וּא (that) בְּתִתּ֥וֹ (when he gives) מִזַּרְע֖וֹ (from his seed) לַמֹּ֑לֶךְ (to Molech), לְבִלְתִּ֖י (so as not to) הָמִ֥ית (put to death) אֹתֽוֹ׃ (him), 5  וְשַׂמְתִּ֨י (then I will set) אֲנִ֧י (I) אֶת־ (-) פָּנַ֛י (My face) בָּאִ֥ישׁ (against man) הַה֖וּא (that), וּבְמִשְׁפַּחְתּ֑וֹ (and against his family), וְהִכְרַתִּ֨י (and I will cut off) אֹת֜וֹ (him) וְאֵ֣ת׀ (and) כָּל־ (all) הַזֹּנִ֣ים (who prostitute themselves) אַחֲרָ֗יו (after him) לִזְנ֛וֹת (to commit prostitution) אַחֲרֵ֥י (after) הַמֹּ֖לֶךְ (Molech), מִקֶּ֥רֶב (from among) עַמָּֽם׃ (their people).

6  וְהַנֶּ֗פֶשׁ (And the soul) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) תִּפְנֶ֤ה (turns) אֶל־ (to) הָֽאֹבֹת֙ (the mediums) וְאֶל־ (and to) הַיִּדְּעֹנִ֔ים (the spiritists) לִזְנ֖וֹת (to prostitute himself) אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם (after them), וְנָתַתִּ֤י (and I will set) אֶת־ (-) פָּנַי֙ (My face) בַּנֶּ֣פֶשׁ (against the soul) הַהִ֔וא (that) וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י (and I will cut off) אֹת֖וֹ (him) מִקֶּ֥רֶב (from among) עַמּֽוֹ׃ (his people).

7  וְהִ֨תְקַדִּשְׁתֶּ֔ם (And you⁺ shall sanctify yourselves) וִהְיִיתֶ֖ם (and you⁺ shall be) קְדֹשִׁ֑ים (holy), כִּ֛י (for) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ God). 8  וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם֙ (And you⁺ shall keep) אֶת־ (-) חֻקֹּתַ֔י (My statutes) וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם (and you⁺ shall do) אֹתָ֑ם (them). אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) מְקַדִּשְׁכֶֽם׃ (who sanctifies you⁺).

9  כִּֽי־ (For) אִ֣ישׁ (any) אִ֗ישׁ (man) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יְקַלֵּ֧ל (curses) אֶת־ (-) אָבִ֛יו (his father) וְאֶת־ (and) אִמּ֖וֹ (his mother) מ֣וֹת (dying) יוּמָ֑ת (he must be put to death). אָבִ֧יו (His father) וְאִמּ֛וֹ (and his mother) קִלֵּ֖ל (he has cursed); דָּמָ֥יו (his blood) בּֽוֹ׃ (is on him).

Punishments for Sexual Immorality
(Proverbs 5:1–23; 1 Corinthians 5:1–8)

10  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (who) יִנְאַף֙ (commits adultery) אֶת־ (with) אֵ֣שֶׁת (the wife) אִ֔ישׁ (of a man), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) יִנְאַ֖ף (commits adultery) אֶת־ (with) אֵ֣שֶׁת (the wife) רֵעֵ֑הוּ (of his neighbor), מֽוֹת־ (dying) יוּמַ֥ת (must be put to death) הַנֹּאֵ֖ף (the adulterer) וְהַנֹּאָֽפֶת׃ (and the adulteress).

11  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (who) יִשְׁכַּב֙ (lies) אֶת־ (with) אֵ֣שֶׁת (the wife) אָבִ֔יו (of his father), עֶרְוַ֥ת (the nakedness) אָבִ֖יו (of his father) גִּלָּ֑ה (has uncovered). מֽוֹת־ (Dying) יוּמְת֥וּ (must be put to death) שְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם (both of them); דְּמֵיהֶ֥ם (their blood) בָּֽם׃ (is on them).

12  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (who) יִשְׁכַּב֙ (lies) אֶת־ (with) כַּלָּת֔וֹ (his daughter-in-law), מ֥וֹת (dying) יוּמְת֖וּ (must be put to death) שְׁנֵיהֶ֑ם (both of them). תֶּ֥בֶל (A perversion) עָשׂ֖וּ (they have done); דְּמֵיהֶ֥ם (their blood) בָּֽם׃ (is on them).

13  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יִשְׁכַּ֤ב (lies) אֶת־ (with) זָכָר֙ (a male) מִשְׁכְּבֵ֣י (the lyings) אִשָּׁ֔ה (of a woman), תּוֹעֵבָ֥ה (an abomination) עָשׂ֖וּ (have done) שְׁנֵיהֶ֑ם (both of them). מ֥וֹת (Dying) יוּמָ֖תוּ (they must be put to death); דְּמֵיהֶ֥ם (their blood) בָּֽם׃ (is on them).

14  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יִקַּ֧ח (takes) אֶת־ (-) אִשָּׁ֛ה (a woman) וְאֶת־ (and) אִמָּ֖הּ (her mother), זִמָּ֣ה (wickedness) הִ֑וא (it is). בָּאֵ֞שׁ (In the fire) יִשְׂרְפ֤וּ (they shall be burned), אֹתוֹ֙ (he) וְאֶתְהֶ֔ן (and they), וְלֹא־ (and not) תִהְיֶ֥ה (there shall be) זִמָּ֖ה (wickedness) בְּתוֹכְכֶֽם׃ (in your⁺ midst).

15  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And a man) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) יִתֵּ֧ן (gives) שְׁכָבְתּ֛וֹ (his lying) בִּבְהֵמָ֖ה (with an animal), מ֣וֹת (dying) יוּמָ֑ת (he must be put to death), וְאֶת־ (and) הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה (the animal) תַּהֲרֹֽגוּ׃ (you⁺ shall kill).

16  וְאִשָּׁ֗ה (And the woman) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) תִּקְרַ֤ב (draws near) אֶל־ (to) כָּל־ (any) בְּהֵמָה֙ (animal) לְרִבְעָ֣ה (to lie) אֹתָ֔הּ (with it), וְהָרַגְתָּ֥ (and you shall kill) אֶת־ (-) הָאִשָּׁ֖ה (the woman) וְאֶת־ (and) הַבְּהֵמָ֑ה (the animal). מ֥וֹת (Dying) יוּמָ֖תוּ (they must be put to death); דְּמֵיהֶ֥ם (their blood) בָּֽם׃ (is on them).

17  וְאִ֣ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) יִקַּ֣ח (takes) אֶת־ (-) אֲחֹת֡וֹ (his sister), בַּת־ (a daughter) אָבִ֣יו (of his father), א֣וֹ (or) בַת־ (a daughter) אִ֠מּוֹ (of his mother), וְרָאָ֨ה (and he sees) אֶת־ (-) עֶרְוָתָ֜הּ (her nakedness), וְהִֽיא־ (and she) תִרְאֶ֤ה (sees) אֶת־ (-) עֶרְוָתוֹ֙ (his nakedness), חֶ֣סֶד (a wicked thing) ה֔וּא (it is), וְנִ֨כְרְת֔וּ (and they shall be cut off) לְעֵינֵ֖י (before the eyes) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) עַמָּ֑ם (of their people). עֶרְוַ֧ת (The nakedness) אֲחֹת֛וֹ (of his sister) גִּלָּ֖ה (he has uncovered); עֲוֺנ֥וֹ (his guilt) יִשָּֽׂא׃ (he shall bear).

18  וְ֠אִישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) יִשְׁכַּ֨ב (lies) אֶת־ (with) אִשָּׁ֜ה (a woman) דָּוָ֗ה (menstruating) וְגִלָּ֤ה (and he uncovers) אֶת־ (-) עֶרְוָתָהּ֙ (her nakedness), אֶת־ (-) מְקֹרָ֣הּ (her flow) הֶֽעֱרָ֔ה (he has exposed), וְהִ֕יא (and she) גִּלְּתָ֖ה (has uncovered) אֶת־ (-) מְק֣וֹר (the flow) דָּמֶ֑יהָ (of her blood). וְנִכְרְת֥וּ (And shall be cut off) שְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם (both of them) מִקֶּ֥רֶב (from among) עַמָּֽם׃ (their people).

19  וְעֶרְוַ֨ת (And the nakedness) אֲח֧וֹת (of the sister) אִמְּךָ֛ (of your mother) וַאֲח֥וֹת (or the sister) אָבִ֖יךָ (of your father) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover), כִּ֧י (because) אֶת־ (-) שְׁאֵר֛וֹ (his close relative) הֶעֱרָ֖ה (he has exposed). עֲוֺנָ֥ם (Their guilt) יִשָּֽׂאוּ׃ (they shall bear).

20  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (who) יִשְׁכַּב֙ (lies) אֶת־ (with) דֹּ֣דָת֔וֹ (his aunt), עֶרְוַ֥ת (the nakedness) דֹּד֖וֹ (of his uncle) גִּלָּ֑ה (he has uncovered); חֶטְאָ֥ם (their sin) יִשָּׂ֖אוּ (they shall bear). עֲרִירִ֥ים (Childless) יָמֻֽתוּ׃ (they shall die).

21  וְאִ֗ישׁ (And the man) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) יִקַּ֛ח (takes) אֶת־ (-) אֵ֥שֶׁת (the wife) אָחִ֖יו (of his brother), נִדָּ֣ה (impurity) הִ֑וא (it is). עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אָחִ֛יו (of his brother) גִּלָּ֖ה (he has uncovered). עֲרִירִ֥ים (Childless) יִהְיֽוּ׃ (they shall be).

Distinguish between Clean and Unclean

22  וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֤ם (And you⁺ shall keep) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) חֻקֹּתַי֙ (My statutes), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) מִשְׁפָּטַ֔י (My judgments), וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם (and you⁺ shall do) אֹתָ֑ם (them), וְלֹא־ (and not) תָקִ֤יא (will vomit out) אֶתְכֶם֙ (you⁺) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (where) אֲנִ֜י (I) מֵבִ֥יא (am bringing) אֶתְכֶ֛ם (you⁺) שָׁ֖מָּה (there) לָשֶׁ֥בֶת (to dwell) בָּֽהּ׃ (in it). 23  וְלֹ֤א (And not) תֵֽלְכוּ֙ (you⁺ shall walk) בְּחֻקֹּ֣ת (in the statutes) הַגּ֔וֹי (of the nation) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I) מְשַׁלֵּ֖חַ (am sending out) מִפְּנֵיכֶ֑ם (from before your⁺ faces), כִּ֤י (for) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) אֵ֙לֶּה֙ (these) עָשׂ֔וּ (they did), וָאָקֻ֖ץ (and I abhor) בָּֽם׃ (them).

24  וָאֹמַ֣ר (And I have said) לָכֶ֗ם (to you⁺) אַתֶּם֮ (that you⁺) תִּֽירְשׁ֣וּ (shall possess) אֶת־ (-) אַדְמָתָם֒ (their land), וַאֲנִ֞י (and I) אֶתְּנֶ֤נָּה (will give it) לָכֶם֙ (to you⁺) לָרֶ֣שֶׁת (to possess) אֹתָ֔הּ (it)— אֶ֛רֶץ (a land) זָבַ֥ת (flowing) חָלָ֖ב (with milk) וּדְבָ֑שׁ (and honey). אֲנִי֙ (I am) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ God), אֲשֶׁר־ (who) הִבְדַּ֥לְתִּי (has separated) אֶתְכֶ֖ם (you⁺) מִן־ (from) הָֽעַמִּֽים׃ (the peoples).

25  וְהִבְדַּלְתֶּ֞ם (And you⁺ shall separate) בֵּֽין־ (between) הַבְּהֵמָ֤ה (the animals) הַטְּהֹרָה֙ (the clean) לַטְּמֵאָ֔ה (and between the unclean), וּבֵין־ (and between) הָע֥וֹף (the birds) הַטָּמֵ֖א (the unclean) לַטָּהֹ֑ר (and between the clean); וְלֹֽא־ (and not) תְשַׁקְּצ֨וּ (you⁺ shall make detestable) אֶת־ (-) נַפְשֹֽׁתֵיכֶ֜ם (your⁺ souls) בַּבְּהֵמָ֣ה (by the beast), וּבָע֗וֹף (and by the bird), וּבְכֹל֙ (and by all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) תִּרְמֹ֣שׂ (creeps on) הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה (the ground), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) הִבְדַּ֥לְתִּי (I have separated) לָכֶ֖ם (for you⁺) לְטַמֵּֽא׃ (to be unclean). 26  וִהְיִ֤יתֶם (And you⁺ shall be) לִי֙ (to Me) קְדֹשִׁ֔ים (holy), כִּ֥י (for) קָד֖וֹשׁ (holy) אֲנִ֣י (am I), יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), וָאַבְדִּ֥ל (and I have separated) אֶתְכֶ֛ם (you⁺) מִן־ (from) הָֽעַמִּ֖ים (the peoples) לִהְי֥וֹת (to be) לִֽי׃ (to Me).

27  וְאִ֣ישׁ (And a man) אֽוֹ־ (or) אִשָּׁ֗ה (a woman) כִּֽי־ (when) יִהְיֶ֨ה (there is) בָהֶ֥ם (among them) א֛וֹב (a medium) א֥וֹ (or) יִדְּעֹנִ֖י (spiritist) מ֣וֹת (dying) יוּמָ֑תוּ (they must be put to death). בָּאֶ֛בֶן (With stones) יִרְגְּמ֥וּ (they shall stone) אֹתָ֖ם (them). דְּמֵיהֶ֥ם (Their blood) בָּֽם׃פ (is on them.’).
