A Prophecy against Pharaoh

1 בַּשָּׁנָה֙ (In the year), הָעֲשִׂירִ֔ית (tenth) בָּעֲשִׂרִ֕י (in the tenth month) בִּשְׁנֵ֥ים (on two) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the month), הָיָ֥ה (came) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying),

2 בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֕ם (of man), שִׂ֣ים (set) פָּנֶ֔יךָ (your face) עַל־ (against) פַּרְעֹ֖ה (Pharaoh) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt), וְהִנָּבֵ֣א (and prophesy) עָלָ֔יו (against him) וְעַל־ (and against) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt) כֻּלָּֽהּ׃ (all).

3 דַּבֵּ֨ר (Speak), וְאָמַרְתָּ֜ (and say), כֹּֽה־ (thus) אָמַ֣ר׀ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֗ה (YHWH); הִנְנִ֤י (behold, I am) עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ (against you) פַּרְעֹ֣ה (O Pharaoh) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt), הַתַּנִּים֙ (the monster) הַגָּד֔וֹל (great) הָרֹבֵ֖ץ (stretching out) בְּת֣וֹךְ (in the midst) יְאֹרָ֑יו (of his rivers), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) אָמַ֛ר (has said), לִ֥י (Unto me is) יְאֹרִ֖י (my Nile) וַאֲנִ֥י (and I) עֲשִׂיתִֽנִי׃ (have made it for myself).

4 וְנָתַתִּ֤י (And I will put) חַחִיִּים (hooks) בִּלְחָיֶ֔יךָ (in your jaws), וְהִדְבַּקְתִּ֥י (and I will cause to cling) דְגַת־ (the fish) יְאֹרֶ֖יךָ (of your rivers) בְּקַשְׂקְשֹׂתֶ֑יךָ (on your scales), וְהַעֲלִיתִ֙יךָ֙ (and I will bring you up) מִתּ֣וֹךְ (from the midst) יְאֹרֶ֔יךָ (of your rivers), וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) דְּגַ֣ת (the fish) יְאֹרֶ֔יךָ (of your rivers) בְּקַשְׂקְשֹׂתֶ֖יךָ (to your scales) תִּדְבָּֽק׃ (will cling).

5 וּנְטַשְׁתִּ֣יךָ (And I will leave you) הַמִּדְבָּ֗רָה (in the desert), אוֹתְךָ֙ (you) וְאֵת֙ (and) כָּל־ (all) דְּגַ֣ת (the fish) יְאֹרֶ֔יךָ (of your rivers); עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֤י (the face) הַשָּׂדֶה֙ (of the ground); תִּפּ֔וֹל (you will fall) לֹ֥א (and not) תֵאָסֵ֖ף (will you be gathered up), וְלֹ֣א (and not) תִקָּבֵ֑ץ (be gathered together). לְחַיַּ֥ת (For the beasts) הָאָ֛רֶץ (of the land) וּלְע֥וֹף (and for the birds) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens) נְתַתִּ֥יךָ (I will give you) לְאָכְלָֽה׃ (as food).

6 וְיָֽדְעוּ֙ (And will know) כָּל־ (all) יֹשְׁבֵ֣י (the dwellers) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt) כִּ֖י (that) אֲנִ֣י (I am) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH), יַ֧עַן (because) הֱיוֹתָ֛ם (they have been) מִשְׁעֶ֥נֶת (a staff) קָנֶ֖ה (of a reed) לְבֵ֥ית (to the house) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

7 בְּתָפְשָׂ֨ם (In their grabbing hold) בְּךָ֤ (of you) בַכַּפְךָ (with the hand), תֵּר֔וֹץ (you broke), וּבָקַעְתָּ֥ (and tore) לָהֶ֖ם (of theirs) כָּל־ (every) כָּתֵ֑ף (shoulder); וּבְהִֽשָּׁעֲנָ֤ם (and in their leaning) עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ (on you) תִּשָּׁבֵ֔ר (you would break), וְהַעֲמַדְתָּ֥ (and made quiver). לָהֶ֖ם (For them) כָּל־ (all) מָתְנָֽיִם׃ס (loins).

The Desolation of Egypt

8 לָכֵ֗ן (Therefore) כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); הִנְנִ֛י (behold, I) מֵבִ֥יא (am bringing) עָלַ֖יִךְ (upon you) חָ֑רֶב (a sword) וְהִכְרַתִּ֥י (and I will cut off) מִמֵּ֖ךְ (from you) אָדָ֥ם (man) וּבְהֵמָֽה׃ (and beast).

9 וְהָיְתָ֤ה (And will become) אֶֽרֶץ־ (the land) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (of Egypt) לִשְׁמָמָ֣ה (a desolation) וְחָרְבָּ֔ה (and ruin); וְיָדְע֖וּ (and they will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֣י (I am) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH). יַ֧עַן (Because) אָמַ֛ר (he said), יְאֹ֥ר (The River) לִ֖י (is to me) וַאֲנִ֥י (and I) עָשִֽׂיתִי׃ (have made it).

10 לָכֵ֛ן (Therefore) הִנְנִ֥י (behold, I am) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (against you) וְאֶל־ (and against) יְאֹרֶ֑יךָ (your rivers), וְנָתַתִּ֞י (and I will give) אֶת־ (-) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) מִצְרַ֗יִם (of Egypt) לְחָרְבוֹת֙ (as a ruin) חֹ֣רֶב (wasteland) שְׁמָמָ֔ה (a desolate), מִמִּגְדֹּ֥ל (from Migdol) סְוֵנֵ֖ה (to Syene) וְעַד־ (and to) גְּב֥וּל (the border) כּֽוּשׁ׃ (of Cush).

11 לֹ֤א (Not) תַעֲבָר־ (will pass) בָּהּ֙ (through it) רֶ֣גֶל (the foot) אָדָ֔ם (of man) וְרֶ֥גֶל (and foot) בְּהֵמָ֖ה (of beast) לֹ֣א (not) תַעֲבָר־ (will pass) בָּ֑הּ (through it) וְלֹ֥א (and not) תֵשֵׁ֖ב (will it be inhabited) אַרְבָּעִ֥ים (forty) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years).

12 וְנָתַתִּ֣י (And I will give) אֶת־ (-) אֶרֶץ֩ (the land) מִצְרַ֨יִם (of Egypt) שְׁמָמָ֜ה (to be a desolation) בְּת֣וֹךְ׀ (in the midst) אֲרָצ֣וֹת (of lands) נְשַׁמּ֗וֹת (desolate), וְעָרֶ֙יהָ֙ (and her cities) בְּת֨וֹךְ (in the midst) עָרִ֤ים (of the cities) מָֽחֳרָבוֹת֙ (laid waste) תִּֽהְיֶ֣יןָ (will be) שְׁמָמָ֔ה (a desolation) אַרְבָּעִ֖ים (forty) שָׁנָ֑ה (years); וַהֲפִצֹתִ֤י (and I will disperse) אֶת־ (-) מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ (Egypt) בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם (among the nations), וְֽזֵרִיתִ֖ים (and I will scatter them) בָּאֲרָצֽוֹת׃פ (among the lands).

13 כִּ֛י (For) כֹּ֥ה (thus) אָמַ֖ר (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֑ה (YHWH); מִקֵּ֞ץ (at the end) אַרְבָּעִ֤ים (of forty) שָׁנָה֙ (years) אֲקַבֵּ֣ץ (I will gather) אֶת־ (-) מִצְרַ֔יִם (Egypt) מִן־ (from) הָעַמִּ֖ים (the peoples) אֲשֶׁר־ (among whom) נָפֹ֥צוּ (they were scattered) שָֽׁמָּה׃ (there).

14 וְשַׁבְתִּי֙ (And I will return) אֶת־ (-) שְׁב֣וּת (the captivity) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt), וַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֤י (and will return) אֹתָם֙ (them) אֶ֣רֶץ (to the land) פַּתְר֔וֹס (of Pathros), עַל־ (to) אֶ֖רֶץ (the land) מְכֽוּרָתָ֑ם (of their origin); וְהָ֥יוּ (and they will be) שָׁ֖ם (there) מַמְלָכָ֥ה (a kingdom) שְׁפָלָֽה׃ (lowly).

15 מִן־ (Of all) הַמַּמְלָכוֹת֙ (the kingdoms); תִּהְיֶ֣ה (it will be) שְׁפָלָ֔ה (the lowest) וְלֹֽא־ (and not) תִתְנַשֵּׂ֥א (will it lift itself) ע֖וֹד (again) עַל־ (over) הַגּוֹיִ֑ם (the nations). וְהִ֨מְעַטְתִּ֔ים (And I will diminish them) לְבִלְתִּ֖י (no longer) רְד֥וֹת (they will rule) בַּגּוֹיִֽם׃ (over the nations).

16 וְלֹ֣א (And not) יִֽהְיֶה־ (will it be) עוֹד֩ (any longer) לְבֵ֨ית (of the house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל (of Israel), לְמִבְטָח֙ (the confidence) מַזְכִּ֣יר (bringing to mind) עָוֺ֔ן (the iniquity), בִּפְנוֹתָ֖ם (in their turning) אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם (after them) וְיָ֣דְע֔וּ (and they will know) כִּ֥י (that) אֲנִ֖י (I am) אֲדֹנָ֥י (the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃פ (YHWH).

Egypt the Reward of Nebuchadnezzar

17 וַיְהִ֗י (And it came to pass) בְּעֶשְׂרִ֤ים (in the twenty) וָשֶׁ֙בַע֙ (and seventh) שָׁנָ֔ה (year), בָּֽרִאשׁ֖וֹן (in the first month) בְּאֶחָ֣ד (on the first) לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the month), הָיָ֥ה (that came) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying),

18 בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֗ם (of man), נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֣ר (Nebuchadnezzar) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) בָּ֠בֶל (of Babylon) הֶעֱבִ֨יד (caused to labor) אֶת־ (-) חֵיל֜וֹ (his army) עֲבֹדָ֤ה (with labor) גְדֹלָה֙ (great) אֶל־ (against) צֹ֔ר (Tyre); כָּל־ (every) רֹ֣אשׁ (head) מֻקְרָ֔ח (having been made bald), וְכָל־ (and every) כָּתֵ֖ף (shoulder) מְרוּטָ֑ה (rubbed bare); וְ֠שָׂכָר (and wages), לֹא־ (did not) הָ֨יָה (were) ל֤וֹ (unto him) וּלְחֵילוֹ֙ (and unto his army), מִצֹּ֔ר (from Tyre) עַל־ (for) הָעֲבֹדָ֖ה (the labor) אֲשֶׁר־ (with which) עָבַ֥ד (they labored) עָלֶֽיהָ׃ס (over it).

19 לָכֵ֗ן (Therefore) כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); הִנְנִ֥י (behold, I) נֹתֵ֛ן (am giving) לִנְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר (to Nebuchadnezzar) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) בָּבֶ֖ל (of Babylon); אֶת־ (-) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt) וְנָשָׂ֨א (and he will carry away) הֲמֹנָ֜הּ (her wealth), וְשָׁלַ֤ל (and he will draw out) שְׁלָלָהּ֙ (her plunder), וּבָזַ֣ז (and he will spoil) בִּזָּ֔הּ (her loot); וְהָיְתָ֥ה (and it will be) שָׂכָ֖ר (the wages) לְחֵילֽוֹ׃ (for his army).

20 פְּעֻלָּתוֹ֙ (As his wage) אֲשֶׁר־ (which) עָ֣בַד (he has labored) בָּ֔הּ (over) נָתַ֥תִּי (I have given) ל֖וֹ (to him) אֶת־ (-) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt) אֲשֶׁר֙ (because) עָ֣שׂוּ (they worked) לִ֔י (for Me) נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃ס (YHWH).

21 בַּיּ֣וֹם (On the day) הַה֗וּא (that) אַצְמִ֤יחַ (I will cause to spring forth), קֶ֙רֶן֙ (a horn) לְבֵ֣ית (for the house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) וּלְךָ֛ (and unto you) אֶתֵּ֥ן (I will give) פִּתְחֽוֹן־ (an opening) פֶּ֖ה (of your mouth) בְּתוֹכָ֑ם (in their midst) וְיָדְע֖וּ (and they will know) כִּי־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃פ (YHWH).
