God Promises Deliverance

1  וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses), עַתָּ֣ה (Now) תִרְאֶ֔ה (you shall see) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (what) אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֖ה (I will do) לְפַרְעֹ֑ה (to Pharaoh); כִּ֣י (for) בְיָ֤ד (with a hand) חֲזָקָה֙ (mighty) יְשַׁלְּחֵ֔ם (he will send them out), וּבְיָ֣ד (and with a hand) חֲזָקָ֔ה (mighty) יְגָרְשֵׁ֖ם (he will drive them out) מֵאַרְצֽוֹ׃ס (from his land).

2  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses) וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (and He said) אֵלָ֖יו (to him), אֲנִ֥י (I) יְהוָֽה׃ (am YHWH). 3  וָאֵרָ֗א (And I appeared) אֶל־ (to) אַבְרָהָ֛ם (Abraham), אֶל־ (to) יִצְחָ֥ק (Isaac), וְאֶֽל־ (and to) יַעֲקֹ֖ב (Jacob) בְּאֵ֣ל (as El-) שַׁדָּ֑י (Shaddai), וּשְׁמִ֣י (and by My name) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) לֹ֥א (not) נוֹדַ֖עְתִּי (I was known) לָהֶֽם׃ (to them). 4  וְגַ֨ם (And also) הֲקִמֹ֤תִי (I have established) אֶת־ () בְּרִיתִי֙ (My covenant) אִתָּ֔ם (with them), לָתֵ֥ת (to give) לָהֶ֖ם (to them) אֶת־ () אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) כְּנָ֑עַן (of Canaan), אֵ֛ת () אֶ֥רֶץ (the land) מְגֻרֵיהֶ֖ם (of their sojourning), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) גָּ֥רוּ (they sojourned) בָֽהּ׃ (in). 5  וְגַ֣ם׀ (And also) אֲנִ֣י (I) שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי (have heard) אֶֽת־ () נַאֲקַת֙ (the groaning) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (whom) מִצְרַ֖יִם (Egypt) מַעֲבִדִ֣ים (is making serve) אֹתָ֑ם (), וָאֶזְכֹּ֖ר (and I have remembered) אֶת־ () בְּרִיתִֽי׃ (My covenant).

6  לָכֵ֞ן (Therefore) אֱמֹ֥ר (say) לִבְנֵֽי־ (to the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֘ל (of Israel), אֲנִ֣י (I) יְהוָה֒ (am YHWH), וְהוֹצֵאתִ֣י (and I will bring out) אֶתְכֶ֗ם (you⁺) מִתַּ֙חַת֙ (from under) סִבְלֹ֣ת (the burdens) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt), וְהִצַּלְתִּ֥י (and I will deliver) אֶתְכֶ֖ם (you⁺) מֵעֲבֹדָתָ֑ם (from their service), וְגָאַלְתִּ֤י (and I will redeem) אֶתְכֶם֙ (you⁺) בִּזְר֣וֹעַ (with an arm) נְטוּיָ֔ה (outstretched) וּבִשְׁפָטִ֖ים (and with judgments) גְּדֹלִֽים׃ (great). 7  וְלָקַחְתִּ֨י (And I will take) אֶתְכֶ֥ם (you⁺) לִי֙ (to Me) לְעָ֔ם (for a people), וְהָיִ֥יתִי (and I will be) לָכֶ֖ם (your⁺) לֵֽאלֹהִ֑ים (God); וִֽידַעְתֶּ֗ם (and you⁺ shall know) כִּ֣י (that) אֲנִ֤י (I) יְהוָה֙ (am YHWH) אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ God), הַמּוֹצִ֣יא (the One bringing out) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺) מִתַּ֖חַת (from under) סִבְל֥וֹת (the burdens) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (of Egypt). 8  וְהֵבֵאתִ֤י (And I will bring) אֶתְכֶם֙ (you⁺) אֶל־ (into) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) נָשָׂ֙אתִי֙ (I lifted up) אֶת־ () יָדִ֔י (my hand) לָתֵ֣ת (to give) אֹתָ֔הּ () לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם (to Abraham), לְיִצְחָ֖ק (to Isaac), וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֑ב (and to Jacob); וְנָתַתִּ֨י (and I will give) אֹתָ֥הּ (it) לָכֶ֛ם (to you⁺) מוֹרָשָׁ֖ה (as a possession). אֲנִ֥י (I) יְהוָֽה׃ (am YHWH)!

9  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) כֵּ֖ן (in this way) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וְלֹ֤א (and not) שָֽׁמְעוּ֙ (they did listen) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses), מִקֹּ֣צֶר (from shortness) ר֔וּחַ (of spirit) וּמֵעֲבֹדָ֖ה (and from service) קָשָֽׁה׃פ (hard).

10  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 11  בֹּ֣א (Go in), דַבֵּ֔ר (tell) אֶל־ (to) פַּרְעֹ֖ה (Pharaoh) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt) וִֽישַׁלַּ֥ח (and to let go) אֶת־ () בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) מֵאַרְצֽוֹ׃ (from his land).

12  וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר (And spoke) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH), לֵאמֹ֑ר (saying), הֵ֤ן (Behold), בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) לֹֽא־ (not) שָׁמְע֣וּ (have listened) אֵלַ֔י (to me); וְאֵיךְ֙ (and how) יִשְׁמָעֵ֣נִי (listen to me) פַרְעֹ֔ה (Pharaoh), וַאֲנִ֖י (and for I am) עֲרַ֥ל (uncircumcised) שְׂפָתָֽיִם׃פ (of lips)?

13  וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר (And spoke) יְהוָה֮ (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֣ה (Moses) וְאֶֽל־ (and to) אַהֲרֹן֒ (Aaron) וַיְצַוֵּם֙ (and He gave them a command) אֶל־ (toward) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) וְאֶל־ (and toward) פַּרְעֹ֖ה (Pharaoh) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt), לְהוֹצִ֥יא (to bring out) אֶת־ () בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ס (of Egypt).

Genealogies of Moses and Aaron

14  אֵ֖לֶּה (These) רָאשֵׁ֣י (are the heads) בֵית־ (of houses) אֲבֹתָ֑ם (of their fathers):

בְּנֵ֨י (The sons) רְאוּבֵ֜ן (of Reuben) בְּכֹ֣ר (the firstborn) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel): חֲנ֤וֹךְ (Hanoch) וּפַלּוּא֙ (and Pallu), חֶצְר֣וֹן (Hezron) וְכַרְמִ֔י (and Carmi). אֵ֖לֶּה (These) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (are the clans) רְאוּבֵֽן׃ (of Reuben).

15  וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) שִׁמְע֗וֹן (of Simeon): יְמוּאֵ֨ל (Jemuel), וְיָמִ֤ין (and Jamin), וְאֹ֙הַד֙ (and Ohad), וְיָכִ֣ין (and Jachin), וְצֹ֔חַר (and Zohar), וְשָׁא֖וּל (and Shaul) בֶּן־ (son) הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑ית (of the Canaanitess). אֵ֖לֶּה (These) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (are the clans) שִׁמְעֽוֹן׃ (of Simeon).

16  וְאֵ֨לֶּה (And these) שְׁמ֤וֹת (are the names) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) לֵוִי֙ (of Levi) לְתֹ֣לְדֹתָ֔ם (according to their generations): גֵּרְשׁ֕וֹן (Gershon), וּקְהָ֖ת (and Kohath), וּמְרָרִ֑י (and Merari). וּשְׁנֵי֙ (And the years) חַיֵּ֣י (of the life) לֵוִ֔י (of Levi) שֶׁ֧בַע (seven) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים (and thirty) וּמְאַ֖ת (and a hundred) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years).

17  בְּנֵ֥י (The sons) גֵרְשׁ֛וֹן (of Gershon): לִבְנִ֥י (Libni) וְשִׁמְעִ֖י (and Shimei), לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃ (according to their clans).

18  וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) קְהָ֔ת (of Kohath): עַמְרָ֣ם (Amram), וְיִצְהָ֔ר (and Izhar), וְחֶבְר֖וֹן (and Hebron), וְעֻזִּיאֵ֑ל (and Uzziel). וּשְׁנֵי֙ (And the years) חַיֵּ֣י (of the life) קְהָ֔ת (of Kohath) שָׁלֹ֧שׁ (were three) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים (and thirty) וּמְאַ֖ת (and a hundred) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years).

19  וּבְנֵ֥י (And the sons) מְרָרִ֖י (of Merari): מַחְלִ֣י (Mahli) וּמוּשִׁ֑י (and Mushi).

אֵ֛לֶּה (These) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (were the clans) הַלֵּוִ֖י (of Levi) לְתֹלְדֹתָֽם׃ (according to their generations).

20  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And took) עַמְרָ֜ם (Amram) אֶת־ () יוֹכֶ֤בֶד (Jochebed) דֹּֽדָתוֹ֙ (his father’s sister) ל֣וֹ (for himself) לְאִשָּׁ֔ה (for a wife), וַתֵּ֣לֶד (and she bore) ל֔וֹ (to him) אֶֽת־ () אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron) וְאֶת־ (and) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses). וּשְׁנֵי֙ (And the years) חַיֵּ֣י (of the life) עַמְרָ֔ם (of Amram were) שֶׁ֧בַע (seven) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים (and thirty) וּמְאַ֖ת (and a hundred) שָׁנָֽה׃ (years).

21  וּבְנֵ֖י (And the sons) יִצְהָ֑ר (of Izhar): קֹ֥רַח (Korah), וָנֶ֖פֶג (and Nepheg), וְזִכְרִֽי׃ (and Zichri).

22  וּבְנֵ֖י (And the sons) עֻזִּיאֵ֑ל (of Uzziel): מִֽישָׁאֵ֥ל (Mishael), וְאֶלְצָפָ֖ן (and Elzaphan), וְסִתְרִֽי׃ (and Sithri).

23  וַיִּקַּ֨ח (And took) אַהֲרֹ֜ן (Aaron) אֶת־ () אֱלִישֶׁ֧בַע (Elisheba), בַּת־ (daughter) עַמִּינָדָ֛ב (of Amminadab), אֲח֥וֹת (sister) נַחְשׁ֖וֹן (of Nahshon), ל֣וֹ (to himself) לְאִשָּׁ֑ה (for a wife). וַתֵּ֣לֶד (And she bore) ל֗וֹ (to him) אֶת־ () נָדָב֙ (Nadab), וְאֶת־ (and) אֲבִיה֔וּא (Abihu), אֶת־ () אֶלְעָזָ֖ר (Eleazar), וְאֶת־ (and) אִֽיתָמָֽר׃ (Ithamar).

24  וּבְנֵ֣י (And the sons) קֹ֔רַח (of Korah): אַסִּ֥יר (Assir), וְאֶלְקָנָ֖ה (and Elkanah), וַאֲבִיאָסָ֑ף (and Abiasaph). אֵ֖לֶּה (These) מִשְׁפְּחֹ֥ת (are the clans) הַקָּרְחִֽי׃ (of the Korahite).

25  וְאֶלְעָזָ֨ר (And Eleazar) בֶּֽן־ (son) אַהֲרֹ֜ן (of Aaron) לָקַֽח־ (took) ל֨וֹ (for himself) מִבְּנ֤וֹת (one of the daughters) פּֽוּטִיאֵל֙ (of Putiel) ל֣וֹ (to him) לְאִשָּׁ֔ה (for a wife), וַתֵּ֥לֶד (and she bore) ל֖וֹ (to him) אֶת־ () פִּֽינְחָ֑ס (Phinehas).

אֵ֗לֶּה (These) רָאשֵׁ֛י (are the heads) אֲב֥וֹת (of the fathers) הַלְוִיִּ֖ם (of the Levites) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם׃ (according to their clans).

26  ה֥וּא (It was this) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron) וּמֹשֶׁ֑ה (and Moses) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (whom) אָמַ֤ר (said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) לָהֶ֔ם (to them), הוֹצִ֜יאוּ (Bring out) אֶת־ () בְּנֵ֧י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (of Israel) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרַ֖יִם (of Egypt), עַל־ (according to) צִבְאֹתָֽם׃ (their hosts). 27  הֵ֗ם (They are) הַֽמְדַבְּרִים֙ (the ones speaking) אֶל־ (to) פַּרְעֹ֣ה (Pharaoh) מֶֽלֶךְ־ (king) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt), לְהוֹצִ֥יא (to bring out) אֶת־ () בְּנֵֽי־ (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם (from Egypt). ה֥וּא (This) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹֽן׃ (and Aaron).

28  וַיְהִ֗י (And it came to pass) בְּי֨וֹם (on the day that) דִּבֶּ֧ר (spoke) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃פ (of Egypt), 29  וַיְדַבֵּ֧ר (that spoke) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹ֖ר (saying), אֲנִ֣י (I) יְהוָ֑ה (am YHWH); דַּבֵּ֗ר (speak) אֶל־ (to) פַּרְעֹה֙ (Pharaoh) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt) אֵ֛ת () כָּל־ (all) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) אֲנִ֖י (I) דֹּבֵ֥ר (am speaking) אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ (to you).

30  וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (And said) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), הֵ֤ן (Behold), אֲנִי֙ (I am) עֲרַ֣ל (uncircumcised) שְׂפָתַ֔יִם (of lips), וְאֵ֕יךְ (and how) יִשְׁמַ֥ע (will listen) אֵלַ֖י (to me) פַּרְעֹֽה׃פ (Pharaoh)?
