1 And Jehovah will speak to Moses, saying, The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses,
2 Avenge the avenging of the sons of Israel of the Midianites: afterwards thou shalt be gathered to thy people. “Avenge the people of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.” “Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”
3 And Moses will speak to the people, saying, Arm from yourselves the men for war, and they shall be against Midian, to give the avenging of Jehovah upon Midian. So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian to execute the LORD’s vengeance on Midian. So Moses said to the people, “Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites so that they may carry out the LORD’s vengeance on them.
4 A thousand to a tribe, a thousand to a tribe, for all the tribes of Israel, ye shall send to war. You shall send a thousand from each of the tribes of Israel to the war.” Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel.”
5 And there shall be separated from the thousands of Israel a thousand for a tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. So there were provided, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.
6 And Moses will send them a thousand for a tribe, to war, them and Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, to war, and the holy vessels, and the trumpets of the signal in his hand. And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe, together with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand. Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
7 And they will go forth against Midian as Jehovah commanded Moses; and they killed every male. They warred against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every male. They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man.
8 And they killed the kings of Midian upon those being slain: Evi and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: and they killed Balaam, son of Beor, with the sword. They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. And they also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword. Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
9 And the sons of Israel will take captive the women of Midian and their little ones, and all their cattle, and all their possessions, and they plundered all their strength. And the people of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones, and they took as plunder all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods. The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.
10 And their cities with their dwellings, and all their walls they burnt in fire. All their cities in the places where they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire, They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.
11 And they will take all the plunder and all the spoil, in man and in cattle. and took all the spoil and all the plunder, both of man and of beast. They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals,
12 And they will bring to Moses and to Eleazar the priest, and to the assembly of the sons of Israel, the captivity and the spoil and the plunder, to the camp to the desert of Moab, which is by Jordan of Jericho. Then they brought the captives and the plunder and the spoil to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the people of Israel, at the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.
13 And Moses and Eleazar the priest, and all the chiefs of the assembly will come forth to their meeting without the camp. Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the chiefs of the congregation went to meet them outside the camp. Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp.
14 And Moses will be angry against the officers of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds coming from the war of the battle. And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war. Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle.
15 And Moses will say to them, Preserved ye alive every female? Moses said to them, “Have you let all the women live? “Have you allowed all the women to live?” he asked them.
16 Behold, they were to the sons of Israel by the word of Balaam for separating treacherously against Jehovah, concerning the word of Peor; and there will be a smiting in the assembly of Jehovah. Behold, these, on Balaam’s advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the LORD in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the LORD. “They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the LORD in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the LORD’s people.
17 And now kill every male among the little ones; and every woman know in man by the bed of a male, do ye kill. Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,
18 And all the little ones among the women who knew not the bed of a male, preserve ye alive for yourselves. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves. but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
19 And encamp ye without the camp seven days: every one killing a soul, and every one touching upon the wounded, ye shall be purified in the third day, and in the seventh day, ye and your captivity. Encamp outside the camp seven days. Whoever of you has killed any person and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves and your captives on the third day and on the seventh day. “Anyone who has killed someone or touched someone who was killed must stay outside the camp seven days. On the third and seventh days you must purify yourselves and your captives.
20 And every garment and every vessel of skin, and every work of goats' hair, and every vessel of wood, ye shall purify. You shall purify every garment, every article of skin, all work of goats’ hair, and every article of wood.” Purify every garment as well as everything made of leather, goat hair or wood.”
21 And Eleazar the priest will say to the men of war coming from the battle, This the law of instruction which Jehovah commanded Moses: Then Eleazar the priest said to the men in the army who had gone to battle: “This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded Moses: Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is what is required by the law that the LORD gave Moses:
22 Only the gold and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead, only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead, Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, lead
23 Every thing which shall come through fire ye shall make pass through fire, and it was cleansed: only with the water of uncleanness shall it be purified: and all which will not come through the fire ye shall make pass through the water. everything that can stand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean. Nevertheless, it shall also be purified with the water for impurity. And whatever cannot stand the fire, you shall pass through the water. and anything else that can withstand fire must be put through the fire, and then it will be clean. But it must also be purified with the water of cleansing. And whatever cannot withstand fire must be put through that water.
24 And wash ye your garments in the seventh day, and be purified, and afterwards ye shall come into the camp. You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. And afterward you may come into the camp.” On the seventh day wash your clothes and you will be clean. Then you may come into the camp.”
25 And Jehovah will speak to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses, The LORD said to Moses,
26 Take the head of the spoil of the captivity, in man and in cattle, thou and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the assembly. “Take the count of the plunder that was taken, both of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the congregation, “You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured.
27 And divide the spoil between them taking hold of the battle, going forth to war, and between all the assembly: and divide the plunder into two parts between the warriors who went out to battle and all the congregation. Divide the spoils equally between the soldiers who took part in the battle and the rest of the community.
28 And cast a tribute to Jehovah from the men of the battle going forth to war: one soul from five hundred, from the men and from the oxen, and from the asses, and from the sheep: And levy for the LORD a tribute from the men of war who went out to battle, one out of five hundred, of the people and of the oxen and of the donkeys and of the flocks. From the soldiers who fought in the battle, set apart as tribute for the LORD one out of every five hundred, whether people, cattle, donkeys or sheep.
29 Ye shall take from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest, an offering of Jehovah. Take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest as a contribution to the LORD. Take this tribute from their half share and give it to Eleazar the priest as the LORD’s part.
30 And from the sons of Israel's half thou shalt take one taking from fifty, from the men, from the oxen, from the asses, and from the sheep, from all the cattle, and give them to the Levites watching the watches of the dwelling of Jehovah. And from the people of Israel’s half you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the people, of the oxen, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the cattle, and give them to the Levites who keep guard over the tabernacle of the LORD.” From the Israelites’ half, select one out of every fifty, whether people, cattle, donkeys, sheep or other animals. Give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.”
31 And Moses will do, and Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses. And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses. So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
32 And the remainder of the spoil plundered which the people of war plundered, will be six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, Now the plunder remaining of the spoil that the army took was 675,000 sheep, The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep,
33 And the oxen two and seventy thousand, 72,000 cattle, 72,000 cattle,
34 And the asses, one and sixty thousand, 61,000 donkeys, 61,000 donkeys
35 And the souls of man, from the women which knew not the bed of a male all the souls, two and thirty thousand. and 32,000 persons in all, women who had not known man by lying with him. and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.
36 And half of the portion of those having gone forth in the war, the Numbers of the sheep will be three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred. And the half, the portion of those who had gone out in the army, numbered 337,500 sheep, The half share of those who fought in the battle was: 337,500 sheep,
37 And the tribute to Jehovah will be from the sheep, six hundred five and seventy. and the LORD’s tribute of sheep was 675. of which the tribute for the LORD was 675;
38 And the oxen, six and thirty thousand; and their tribute to Jehovah, two and seventy. The cattle were 36,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 72. 36,000 cattle, of which the tribute for the LORD was 72;
39 And the asses thirty thousand and five hundred; and their tribute to Jehovah, one and sixty. The donkeys were 30,500, of which the LORD’s tribute was 61. 30,500 donkeys, of which the tribute for the LORD was 61;
40 And the souls of man, sixteen thousand; and their tribute to Jehovah, two and thirty souls. The persons were 16,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 32 persons. 16,000 people, of whom the tribute for the LORD was 32.
41 And Moses will give the tribute, an offering of Jehovah, to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah commanded Moses. And Moses gave the tribute, which was the contribution for the LORD, to Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses. Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as the LORD’s part, as the LORD commanded Moses.
42 And from the sons of Israel's half which Moses divided from the men having warred, From the people of Israel’s half, which Moses separated from that of the men who had served in the army— The half belonging to the Israelites, which Moses set apart from that of the fighting men—
43 (And the assembly's half from the sheep, will be three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand five hundred, now the congregation’s half was 337,500 sheep, the community’s half—was 337,500 sheep,
44 And the oxen, six and thirty thousand, 36,000 cattle, 36,000 cattle,
45 And the asses, thirty thousand and five hundred, and 30,500 donkeys, 30,500 donkeys

47 Moses will take from the sons of Israel's half, one taking from fifty, from man and from cattle, and he will give them to the Levites watching the watches of the tent of Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses. from the people of Israel’s half Moses took one of every 50, both of persons and of beasts, and gave them to the Levites who kept guard over the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses. From the Israelites’ half, Moses selected one out of every fifty people and animals, as the LORD commanded him, and gave them to the Levites, who were responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.
48 And there will come near to Moses the officers which are over the thousands of the war, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds: Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, came near to Moses Then the officers who were over the units of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—went to Moses
49 And they will say to Moses, Thy servants took the head of the men of the battle which are in our hand, and a man was not missed from us. and said to Moses, “Your servants have counted the men of war who are under our command, and there is not a man missing from us. and said to him, “Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
50 And we will bring an offering to Jehovah, what each found, vessels of gold, armbands, and bracelets, rings, ear-rings, and globules of gold, to expiate for our souls before Jehovah. And we have brought the LORD’s offering, what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and beads, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.” So we have brought as an offering to the LORD the gold articles each of us acquired—armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.”
51 And Moses will take, and Eleazar the priest, all the gold from them, all the vessels of work. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received from them the gold, all crafted articles. Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted from them the gold—all the crafted articles.
52 And all the gold of the offering which they lifted up to Jehovah, will be sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from the captains of thousands and from the captains of hundreds. And all the gold of the contribution that they presented to the LORD, from the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, was 16,750 shekels. All the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds that Moses and Eleazar presented as a gift to the LORD weighed 16,750 shekels.
53 The men of war plundered each for himself. (The men in the army had each taken plunder for himself.) Each soldier had taken plunder for himself.
54 And Moses will take, and Eleazar the priest, the gold from the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and they will bring it to the tent of appointment, a remembrance for the sons of Israel before Jehovah. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the people of Israel before the LORD. Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
