And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses,
Avenge the wrongs of the children of Israel on the Madianites, and afterwards thou shalt be added to thy people. “Avenge the people of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.” “Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”
And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm some of you, and set yourselves in array before the Lord against Madian, to inflict vengeance on Madian from the Lord. So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian to execute the LORD’s vengeance on Midian. So Moses said to the people, “Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites so that they may carry out the LORD’s vengeance on them.
Send a thousand of each tribe from all the tribes of the children of Israel to set themselves in array. You shall send a thousand from each of the tribes of Israel to the war.” Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel.”
And they numbered of the thousands of Israel a thousand of each tribe, twelve thousands; these were armed for war. So there were provided, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.
And Moses sent them away a thousand of every tribe with their forces, and Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest: and the holy instruments, and the signal trumpets were in their hands. And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe, together with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand. Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
And they set themselves in array against Madian, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew every male. They warred against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every male. They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man.
And they slew the kings of Madian together with their slain subjects ; even Evi and Rocon, and Sur, and Ur, and Roboc, five kings of Madian; and they slew with the sword Balaam the son of Beor with their other slain. They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. And they also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword. Among their victims were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba—the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
And they made a prey of the women of Madian, and their store, and their cattle, and all their possessions: and they spoiled their forces. And the people of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones, and they took as plunder all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods. The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.
And they burnt with fire all their cities in the places of their habitation and they burnt their villages with fire. All their cities in the places where they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire, They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.
And they took all their plunder, and all their spoils, both man and beast. and took all the spoil and all the plunder, both of man and of beast. They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals,
And they brought to Moses and to Eleazar the priest, and to all the children of Israel, the captives, and the spoils, and the plunder, to the camp to Araboth Moab, which is at Jordan by Jericho. Then they brought the captives and the plunder and the spoil to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the people of Israel, at the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. and brought the captives, spoils and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the rulers of the synagogue went forth out of the camp to meet them. Moses and Eleazar the priest and all the chiefs of the congregation went to meet them outside the camp. Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp.
And Moses was angry with the captains of the host, the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds who came from the battle-array. And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who had come from service in the war. Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle.
And Moses said to them, Why have ye saved every female alive? Moses said to them, “Have you let all the women live? “Have you allowed all the women to live?” he asked them.
For they were the occasion to the children of Israel by the word of Balaam of their revolting and despising the word of the Lord, because of Phogor; and there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord. Behold, these, on Balaam’s advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the LORD in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the LORD. “They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the LORD in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the LORD’s people.
Now then slay every male in all the spoil, slay every woman, who has known the lying with man. Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,
And as for all the captivity of women, who have not known the lying with man, save ye them alive. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves. but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
And ye shall encamp outside the great camp seven days; every one who has slain and who touches a dead body, shall be purified on the third day, and ye and your captivity shall purify yourselves on the seventh day. Encamp outside the camp seven days. Whoever of you has killed any person and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves and your captives on the third day and on the seventh day. “Anyone who has killed someone or touched someone who was killed must stay outside the camp seven days. On the third and seventh days you must purify yourselves and your captives.
And ye shall purify every garment and every leathern utensil, and all furniture of goat skin, and every wooden vessel. You shall purify every garment, every article of skin, all work of goats’ hair, and every article of wood.” Purify every garment as well as everything made of leather, goat hair or wood.”
And Eleazar the priest said to the men of the host that came from the battle-array, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded Moses. Then Eleazar the priest said to the men in the army who had gone to battle: “This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded Moses: Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is what is required by the law that the LORD gave Moses:
Beside the gold, and the silver, and the brass, and the iron, and lead, and tin, only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead, Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, lead
every thing that shall pass through the fire shall so be clean, nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of sanctification; and whatsoever will not pass through the fire shall pass through water. everything that can stand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean. Nevertheless, it shall also be purified with the water for impurity. And whatever cannot stand the fire, you shall pass through the water. and anything else that can withstand fire must be put through the fire, and then it will be clean. But it must also be purified with the water of cleansing. And whatever cannot withstand fire must be put through that water.
And on the seventh day ye shall wash your garments, and be clean; and afterwards ye shall come into the camp. You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. And afterward you may come into the camp.” On the seventh day wash your clothes and you will be clean. Then you may come into the camp.”
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses, The LORD said to Moses,
Take the sum of the spoils of the captivity both of man and beast, thou and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the families of the congregation. “Take the count of the plunder that was taken, both of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the congregation, “You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured.
And ye shall divide the spoils between the warriors that went out to battle, and the whole congregation. and divide the plunder into two parts between the warriors who went out to battle and all the congregation. Divide the spoils equally between the soldiers who took part in the battle and the rest of the community.
And ye shall take a tribute for the Lord from the warriors that went out to battle; one soul out of five hundred, from the men, and from the cattle, even from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses; and ye shall take from their half. And levy for the LORD a tribute from the men of war who went out to battle, one out of five hundred, of the people and of the oxen and of the donkeys and of the flocks. From the soldiers who fought in the battle, set apart as tribute for the LORD one out of every five hundred, whether people, cattle, donkeys or sheep.
And thou shalt give them to Eleazar the priest as the first-fruits of the Lord. Take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest as a contribution to the LORD. Take this tribute from their half share and give it to Eleazar the priest as the LORD’s part.
And from the half belonging to the children of Israel thou shalt take one in fifty from the men, and from the oxen, and from the sheep, and from the asses, and from all the cattle; and thou shalt give them to the Levites that keep the charges in the tabernacle of the Lord. And from the people of Israel’s half you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the people, of the oxen, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the cattle, and give them to the Levites who keep guard over the tabernacle of the LORD.” From the Israelites’ half, select one out of every fifty, whether people, cattle, donkeys, sheep or other animals. Give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.”
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses. And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses. So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
And that which remained of the spoil which the warriors took, was - of the sheep, six hundred and seventy-five thousand: Now the plunder remaining of the spoil that the army took was 675,000 sheep, The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep,
and oxen, seventy-two thousand: 72,000 cattle, 72,000 cattle,
and asses, sixty-one thousand. 61,000 donkeys, 61,000 donkeys
And persons of women who had not known lying with man, all the souls, thirty-two thousand. and 32,000 persons in all, women who had not known man by lying with him. and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.
And the half, even the portion of them that went out to war, from the number of the sheep, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred. And the half, the portion of those who had gone out in the army, numbered 337,500 sheep, The half share of those who fought in the battle was: 337,500 sheep,
And the tribute to the Lord from the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five. and the LORD’s tribute of sheep was 675. of which the tribute for the LORD was 675;
And the oxen, six and thirty thousand, and the tribute to the Lord seventy-two. The cattle were 36,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 72. 36,000 cattle, of which the tribute for the LORD was 72;
And asses, thirty thousand and five hundred, and the tribute to the Lord, sixty-one: The donkeys were 30,500, of which the LORD’s tribute was 61. 30,500 donkeys, of which the tribute for the LORD was 61;
and the persons, sixteen thousand, and the tribute of them to the Lord, thirty-two souls. The persons were 16,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 32 persons. 16,000 people, of whom the tribute for the LORD was 32.
And Moses gave the tribute to the Lord, the heave-offering of God, to Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses; And Moses gave the tribute, which was the contribution for the LORD, to Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses. Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as the LORD’s part, as the LORD commanded Moses.
from the half belonging to the children of Israel, whom Moses separated from the men of war. From the people of Israel’s half, which Moses separated from that of the men who had served in the army— The half belonging to the Israelites, which Moses set apart from that of the fighting men—
And the half taken from the sheep, belonging to the congregation, was three hundred and thirty-seven thousand and five hundred. now the congregation’s half was 337,500 sheep, the community’s half—was 337,500 sheep,
And the oxen, thirty-six thousand; 36,000 cattle, 36,000 cattle,
asses, thirty thousand and five hundred; and 30,500 donkeys, 30,500 donkeys
and persons, sixteen thousand. and 16,000 persons— and 16,000 people.
And Moses took of the half belonging to the children of Israel the fiftieth part, of men and of cattle, and he gave them to the Levites who keep the charges of the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses. from the people of Israel’s half Moses took one of every 50, both of persons and of beasts, and gave them to the Levites who kept guard over the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD commanded Moses. From the Israelites’ half, Moses selected one out of every fifty people and animals, as the LORD commanded him, and gave them to the Levites, who were responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.
And all those who were appointed to be officers of thousands of the host, captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, approached Moses, and said to Moses, Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, came near to Moses Then the officers who were over the units of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—went to Moses
Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war with us, and not one is missing. and said to Moses, “Your servants have counted the men of war who are under our command, and there is not a man missing from us. and said to him, “Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
And we have brought our gift to the Lord, every man who has found an article of gold, whether an armlet, or a chain, or a ring, or a bracelet, or a clasp for hair, to make atonement for us before the Lord. And we have brought the LORD’s offering, what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and beads, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.” So we have brought as an offering to the LORD the gold articles each of us acquired—armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.”
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, even every wrought article. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received from them the gold, all crafted articles. Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted from them the gold—all the crafted articles.
And all the wrought gold, even the offering that they offered to the Lord, was sixteen thousand and seven hundred and fifty shekels from the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds. And all the gold of the contribution that they presented to the LORD, from the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, was 16,750 shekels. All the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds that Moses and Eleazar presented as a gift to the LORD weighed 16,750 shekels.
For the men of war took plunder every one for himself. (The men in the army had each taken plunder for himself.) Each soldier had taken plunder for himself.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from the captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and brought the vessels into the tabernacle of witness, a memorial of the children of Israel before the Lord. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the people of Israel before the LORD. Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
