1 The LORD spoke to Moses, The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, The LORD said to Moses,
2 “Execute vengeance for the Israelites against the Midianites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.” “Avenge the people of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.” “Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.”
3 So Moses spoke to the people, “Equip some of your men for war. They will go against Midian to inflict the LORD’s vengeance on them. So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian to execute the LORD’s vengeance on Midian. So Moses said to the people, “Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites so that they may carry out the LORD’s vengeance on them.
4 Send one thousand men to war from each Israelite tribe.” You shall send a thousand from each of the tribes of Israel to the war.” Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel.”
5 So one thousand were recruited from each Israelite tribe out of the thousands in Israel—twelve thousand equipped for war. So there were provided, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. So twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.
6 Moses sent one thousand from each tribe to war. They went with Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, in whose care were the holy objects and signal trumpets. And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe, together with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand. Moses sent them into battle, a thousand from each tribe, along with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary and the trumpets for signaling.
7 They waged war against Midian, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and killed every male. They warred against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every male. They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man.
8 Along with the others slain by them, they killed the Midianite kings—Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. 9 The Israelites took the Midianite women and their dependents captive, and they plundered all their cattle, flocks, and property. And the people of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones, and they took as plunder all their cattle, their flocks, and all their goods. The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.
10 Then they burned all the cities where the Midianites lived, as well as all their encampments, All their cities in the places where they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire, They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.
11 and took away all the spoils of war and the captives, both people and animals. and took all the spoil and all the plunder, both of man and of beast. They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals,
12 They brought the prisoners, animals, and spoils of war to Moses, the priest Eleazar, and the Israelite community at the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. 17 So now, kill every male among the dependents and kill every woman who has gone to bed with a man, Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,
18 but keep alive for yourselves all the young females who have not gone to bed with a man. But all the young girls who have not known man by lying with him keep alive for yourselves. but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
19 “You are to remain outside the camp for seven days. All of you and your prisoners who have killed a person or touched the dead are to purify yourselves on the third day and the seventh day. Encamp outside the camp seven days. Whoever of you has killed any person and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves and your captives on the third day and on the seventh day. “Anyone who has killed someone or touched someone who was killed must stay outside the camp seven days. On the third and seventh days you must purify yourselves and your captives.
20 Also purify everything: garments, leather goods, things made of goat hair, and every article of wood.” You shall purify every garment, every article of skin, all work of goats’ hair, and every article of wood.” Purify every garment as well as everything made of leather, goat hair or wood.”
21 Then the priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had gone to battle, “This is the legal statute the LORD commanded Moses: Then Eleazar the priest said to the men in the army who had gone to battle: “This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded Moses: Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is what is required by the law that the LORD gave Moses:

23 everything that can withstand fire—you are to pass through fire, and it will be clean. It must still be purified with the purification water. Nevertheless, it shall also be purified with the water for impurity. And whatever cannot stand the fire, you shall pass through the water. and anything else that can withstand fire must be put through the fire, and then it will be clean. But it must also be purified with the water of cleansing. And whatever cannot withstand fire must be put through that water.
24 On the seventh day wash your clothes, and you will be clean. After that you may enter the camp.” You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. And afterward you may come into the camp.” On the seventh day wash your clothes and you will be clean. Then you may come into the camp.”
25 The LORD told Moses, The LORD said to Moses, The LORD said to Moses,
26 “You, the priest Eleazar, and the family heads of the community are to take a count of what was captured, people and animals. “Take the count of the plunder that was taken, both of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the congregation, “You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured.
27 Then divide the captives between the troops who went out to war and the entire community. and divide the plunder into two parts between the warriors who went out to battle and all the congregation. Divide the spoils equally between the soldiers who took part in the battle and the rest of the community.
28 Set aside a tribute for the LORD from what belongs to the fighting men who went out to war: one out of every five hundred people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats. And levy for the LORD a tribute from the men of war who went out to battle, one out of five hundred, of the people and of the oxen and of the donkeys and of the flocks. From the soldiers who fought in the battle, set apart as tribute for the LORD one out of every five hundred, whether people, cattle, donkeys or sheep.
29 Take the tribute from their half and give it to the priest Eleazar as a contribution to the LORD. Take it from their half and give it to Eleazar the priest as a contribution to the LORD. Take this tribute from their half share and give it to Eleazar the priest as the LORD’s part.
30 From the Israelites’ half, take one out of every fifty from the people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats, all the livestock, and give them to the Levites who perform the duties of the LORD’s tabernacle.” And from the people of Israel’s half you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the people, of the oxen, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the cattle, and give them to the Levites who keep guard over the tabernacle of the LORD.” From the Israelites’ half, select one out of every fifty, whether people, cattle, donkeys, sheep or other animals. Give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the LORD’s tabernacle.”
31 So Moses and the priest Eleazar did as the LORD commanded Moses. And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses. So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.
32 The captives remaining from the plunder the army had taken totaled: 675,000 sheep and goats, Now the plunder remaining of the spoil that the army took was 675,000 sheep, The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was 675,000 sheep,
33 72,000 cattle, 72,000 cattle, 72,000 cattle,
34 61,000 donkeys, 61,000 donkeys, 61,000 donkeys
35 and 32,000 people, all the females who had not gone to bed with a man. and 32,000 persons in all, women who had not known man by lying with him. and 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.

37 and the tribute to the LORD was 675 from the sheep and goats; and the LORD’s tribute of sheep was 675. of which the tribute for the LORD was 675;
38 from the 36,000 cattle, the tribute to the LORD was 72; The cattle were 36,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 72. 36,000 cattle, of which the tribute for the LORD was 72;

40 and from the 16,000 people, the tribute to the LORD was 32 people. The persons were 16,000, of which the LORD’s tribute was 32 persons. 16,000 people, of whom the tribute for the LORD was 32.
41 Moses gave the tribute to the priest Eleazar as a contribution for the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses. And Moses gave the tribute, which was the contribution for the LORD, to Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses. Moses gave the tribute to Eleazar the priest as the LORD’s part, as the LORD commanded Moses.
42 From the Israelites’ half, which Moses separated from the men who fought, From the people of Israel’s half, which Moses separated from that of the men who had served in the army— The half belonging to the Israelites, which Moses set apart from that of the fighting men—
43 the community’s half was: 337,500 sheep and goats, now the congregation’s half was 337,500 sheep, the community’s half—was 337,500 sheep,

48 The officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, approached Moses Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, came near to Moses Then the officers who were over the units of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—went to Moses
49 and told him, “Your servants have taken a census of the fighting men under our command, and not one of us is missing. and said to Moses, “Your servants have counted the men of war who are under our command, and there is not a man missing from us. and said to him, “Your servants have counted the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
50 So we have presented to the LORD an offering of the gold articles each man found—armlets, bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.” And we have brought the LORD’s offering, what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and beads, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.” So we have brought as an offering to the LORD the gold articles each of us acquired—armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings and necklaces—to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD.”
51 Moses and the priest Eleazar received from them all the articles made out of gold. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received from them the gold, all crafted articles. Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted from them the gold—all the crafted articles.
52 All the gold of the contribution they offered to the LORD, from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, was 420 pounds. And all the gold of the contribution that they presented to the LORD, from the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, was 16,750 shekels. All the gold from the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds that Moses and Eleazar presented as a gift to the LORD weighed 16,750 shekels.
53 Each of the soldiers had taken plunder for himself. (The men in the army had each taken plunder for himself.) Each soldier had taken plunder for himself.
54 Moses and the priest Eleazar received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD. And Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, as a memorial for the people of Israel before the LORD.
