17	And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and there he spent the night.	And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.	And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.

19	Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went over to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again.” And immediately the fig tree withered.	And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.	Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
20	When the disciples saw this, they were amazed and said, “How was it that the fig tree withered immediately?”	When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?”	When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21	Jesus said to them in reply, “Amen, I say to you, if you have faith and do not waver, not only will you do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done.	And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.	Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.
22	Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.”	And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”	If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
23	When he had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”	And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”	Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”
24	Jesus said to them in reply, “I shall ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I shall tell you by what authority I do these things.	Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you one question, and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.	Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
25	Where was John’s baptism from? Was it of heavenly or of human origin?” They discussed this among themselves and said, “If we say ‘Of heavenly origin,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’	The baptism of John, from where did it come? From heaven or from man?” And they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’	John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’
26	But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we fear the crowd, for they all regard John as a prophet.”	But if we say, ‘From man,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”	But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”
27	So they said to Jesus in reply, “We do not know.” He himself said to them, “Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things.	So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.	So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Then he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
28	“What is your opinion? A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’	“What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’	“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
29	He said in reply, ‘I will not,’ but afterwards he changed his mind and went.	And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went.	“’I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
30	The man came to the other son and gave the same order. He said in reply, ‘Yes, sir,’ but did not go.	And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go.	“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.
31	Which of the two did his father’s will?” They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.	Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.	“Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
32	When John came to you in the way of righteousness, you did not believe him; but tax collectors and prostitutes did. Yet even when you saw that, you did not later change your minds and believe him.	For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterward change your minds and believe him.	For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
33	“Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey.	“Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country.	“Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
34	When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce.	When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit.	When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
35	But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned.	And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.	“The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
36	Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way.	Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them.	Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way.
37	Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’	Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’	Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38	But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’	But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’	“But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’
39	They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.	And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.	So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40	What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?”	When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”	“Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
41	They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.”	They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”	“He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
42	Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes’?	Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?	Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “’The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43	Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.	Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits.	“Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
44	[ The one who falls on this stone will be dashed to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.]”	And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”	Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”
45	When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them. 46	And although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet.	And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.	They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.
