1	AND it happened in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, to take a census of all the people in his empire.	In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.	In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
2	This first census took place during the governorship of Quirinius in Syria.	This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria.	(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3	And every man went to be registered in his own city.	And all went to be registered, each to his own town.	And everyone went to their own town to register.
4	Joseph also went up from Nazareth, a city of Galilee, to Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and family of David;	And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,	So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

7	And she gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because they had no place where they were lodging. 12	And this is a sign for you; You will find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. 15	And it happened, when the angels departed from them and went to heaven, the shepherds spoke to one another, saying, Let us go to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has happened, as the Lord has shown to us.	When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”	When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16	And they came very hurriedly, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe laid in the manger.	And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.	So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
17	When they saw it, they made known the word which was spoken to them concerning the boy.	And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.	When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,

25	Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simon; and this man was pious and righteous, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 30	For behold, mine eyes have already seen your mercies,	for my eyes have seen your salvation	For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31	Which you have prepared before the face of all peoples,	that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,	which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32	A light for a revelation to the Gentiles, and a glory to your people Israel.	a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”	a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

36	And Hannah the prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, was of a great age; and she had lived seven years with her husband from the days of her virginity. 41	And his people went every year to Jerusalem during the feast of the passover.	Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.	Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover.

43	And when the feast days were over, they returned; but the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother did not know it. 44	They thought that he was with the children of their party; and when they went a day’s journey, they sought for him among their own people and those who knew them.	but supposing him to be in the group they went a day’s journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances,	Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends.
45	But they could not find him; so they returned again to Jerusalem, looking for him.	and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him.	When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.
46	After three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them, and asking them questions. 48	And when they saw him, they were astonished; and his mother said to him, My son, why have you done so to us? behold, I and your father have been looking for you with much anxiety. Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.”	When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
49	He said to them, Why were you looking for me? did you not know that I would be in the house of my Father?	And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”	“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”
50	But they could not understand the word which he said to them.	And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them.	But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
51	So he went down with them and came to Nazareth; and he was subject unto them. And his mother treasured all these words in her heart.	And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.	Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
52	And Jesus grew in his stature and in his wisdom, and in favor with God and men.	And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.	And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
