1	Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself was about to come. 2	And he said unto them, The harvest is plenteous, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
3	Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.	Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.	Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
4	Carry no purse, no wallet, no shoes: and salute no man on the way.	Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road.	Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5	And into whatsoever house ye shall enter, first say, Peace be to this house.	Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’	“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
6	And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall turn to you again.	And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.	If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
7	And in that same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.	And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.	Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8	And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:	Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.	“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
9	and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.	Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’	Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10	But into whatsoever city ye shall enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets thereof and say,	But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,	But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
11	Even the dust from your city, that cleaveth to our feet, we do wipe off against you: howbeit know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh.	‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’	Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’
12	I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13	Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14	Howbeit it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment, than for you.	But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.	But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15	And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt be brought down unto Hades.	And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.	And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.
16	He that heareth you heareth me; and he that rejecteth you rejecteth me; and he that rejecteth me rejecteth him that sent me.	“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”	“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
17	And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us in thy name.	The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”	The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18	And he said unto them, I beheld Satan fallen as lightning from heaven.	And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.	He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19	Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.	Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.	I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
20	Howbeit in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.	Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”	However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
21	In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: yea, Father; for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.	In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.	At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22	All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, save the Father; and who the Father is, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him.	All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”	“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
23	And turning to the disciples, he said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:	Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!	Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
24	for I say unto you, that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not. 25	And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?	And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”	On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26	And he said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?	He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”	“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27	And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.	And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”	He answered, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28	And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.	And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”	“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29	But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?	But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”	But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30	Jesus made answer and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho; and he fell among robbers, which both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.	Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.	In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31	And by chance a certain priest was going down that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.	Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.	A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.

36	Which of these three, thinkest thou, proved neighbour unto him that fell among the robbers?	Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”	“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37	And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.	He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”	The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
38	Now as they went on their way, he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.	Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.	As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39	And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at the Lord's feet, and heard his word.	And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.	She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
40	But Martha was cumbered about much serving; and she came up to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister did leave me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.	But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”	But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41	But the Lord answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art anxious and troubled about many things:	But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,	“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42	but one thing is needful: for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.	but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”	but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
