1	AND after these things the Lord appointed also other seventy-two: and he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come.	After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2	And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send labourers into his harvest.	And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.	He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
3	Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves.	Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.	Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
4	Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes; and salute no man by the way.	Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road.	Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5	Into whatsoever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house.	Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’	“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
6	And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you.	And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.	If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
7	And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house.	And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.	Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8	And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.	Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.	“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
9	And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.	Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’	Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10	But into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you not, going forth into the streets thereof, say:	But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,	But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
11	Even the very dust of your city that cleaveth to us, we wipe off against you. Yet know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand.	‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’	Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’
12	I say to you, it shall be more tolerable at that day for Sodom, than for that city.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13	Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida. For if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the mighty works that have been wrought in you, they would have done penance long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14	But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement, than for you.	But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.	But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15	And thou, Capharnaum, which art exalted unto heaven, thou shalt be thrust down to hell.	And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.	And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.
16	He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.	“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”	“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
17	And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying: Lord, the devils also are subject to us in thy name.	The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”	The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18	And he said to them: I saw Satan like lightening falling from heaven.	And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.	He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19	Behold, I have given you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and upon all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall hurt you.	Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.	I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
20	But yet rejoice not in this, that spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven.	Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”	However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
21	In that same hour, he rejoiced in the Holy Ghost, and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones. Yea, Father, for so it hath seemed good in thy sight.	In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.	At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22	All things are delivered to me by my Father; and no one knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and to whom the Son will reveal him.	All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”	“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
23	And turning to his disciples, he said: Blessed are the eyes that see the things which you see.	Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!	Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
24	For I say to you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them.	For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”	For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
25	And behold a certain lawyer stood up, tempting him, and saying, Master, what must I do to possess eternal life?	And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”	On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26	But he said to him: What is written in the law? how readest thou?	He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”	“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27	He answering, said: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind: and thy neighbour as thyself.	And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”	He answered, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28	And he said to him: Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.	And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”	“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29	But he willing to justify himself, said to Jesus: And who is my neighbour?	But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”	But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30	And Jesus answering, said: A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, who also stripped him, and having wounded him went away, leaving him half dead.	Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.	In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31	And it chanced, that a certain priest went down the same way: and seeing him, passed by.	Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.	A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
32	In like manner also a Levite, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by.	So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.	So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33	But a certain Samaritan being on his journey, came near him; and seeing him, was moved with compassion.	But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.	But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
34	And going up to him, bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine: and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35	And the next day he took out two pence, and gave to the host, and said: Take care of him; and whatsoever thou shalt spend over and above, I, at my return, will repay thee.	And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’	The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36	Which of these three, in thy opinion, was neighbour to him that fell among the robbers?	Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”	“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37	But he said: He that shewed mercy to him. And Jesus said to him: Go, and do thou in like manner.	He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”	The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
38	Now it came to pass as they went, that he entered into a certain town: and a certain woman named Martha, received him into her house.	Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.	As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39	And she had a sister called Mary, who sitting also at the Lord's feet, heard his word.	And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.	She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
40	But Martha was busy about much serving. Who stood and said: Lord, hast thou no care that my sister hath left me alone to serve? speak to her therefore, that she help me.	But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”	But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41	And the Lord answering, said to her: Martha, Martha, thou art careful, and art troubled about many things:	But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,	“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42	But one thing is necessary. Mary hath chosen the best part, which shall not be taken away from her.	but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”	but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
