1	Then, after these things, the Lord also designated another seventy-two. And he sent them in pairs before his face, into every city and place where he was to arrive.	After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. 2	And he said to them: “Certainly the harvest is great, but the workers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into his harvest. 3	Go forth. Behold, I send you out like lambs among wolves.	Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.	Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
4	Do not choose to carry a purse, nor provisions, nor shoes; and you shall greet no one along the way.	Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and greet no one on the road.	Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5	Into whatever house you will have entered, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’	Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’	“When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’
6	And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.	And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you.	If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
7	And remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things that are with them. For the worker is worthy of his pay. Do not choose to pass from house to house.	And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.	Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8	And into whatever city you have entered and they have received you, eat what they set before you.	Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.	“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
9	And cure the sick who are in that place, and proclaim to them, ‘The kingdom of God has drawn near to you.’	Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’	Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
10	But into whatever city you have entered and they have not received you, going out into its main streets, say:	But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,	But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,
11	‘Even the dust which clings to us from your city, we wipe away against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has drawn near.’	‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’	Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’
12	I say to you, that in that day, Sodom will be forgiven more than that city will be.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.	I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13	Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that have been wrought in you, had been wrought in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in haircloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.	“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14	Yet truly, Tyre and Sidon will be forgiven more in the judgment than you will be.	But it will be more bearable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.	But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15	And as for you, Capernaum, who would be exalted even up to Heaven: you shall be submerged into Hell.	And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.	And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.
16	Whoever hears you, hears me. And whoever despises you, despises me. And whoever despises me, despises him who sent me.”	“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”	“Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
17	Then the seventy-two returned with gladness, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us, in your name.”	The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”	The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18	And he said to them: “I was watching as Satan fell like lightning from heaven.	And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.	He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19	Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and upon all the powers of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.	Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.	I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
20	Yet truly, do not choose to rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”	Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”	However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
21	In the same hour, he exulted in the Holy Spirit, and he said: “I confess to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the prudent, and have revealed them to little ones. It is so, Father, because this way was pleasing before you.	In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.	At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
22	All things have been delivered to me by my Father. And no one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and those to whom the Son has chosen to reveal him.”	All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”	“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
23	And turning to his disciples, he said: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.	Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!	Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.

25	And behold, a certain expert in the law rose up, testing him and saying, “Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?”	And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”	On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26	But he said to him: “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”	He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”	“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27	In response, he said: “You shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart, and from your whole soul, and from all your strength, and from all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”	And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”	He answered, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28	And he said to him: “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”	And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”	“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29	But since he wanted to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”	But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”	But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30	Then Jesus, taking this up, said: “A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he happened upon robbers, who now also plundered him. And inflicting him with wounds, they went away, leaving him behind, half-alive.	Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.	In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
31	And it happened that a certain priest was descending along the same way. And seeing him, he passed by.	Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.	A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.
32	And similarly a Levite, when he was near the place, also saw him, and he passed by.	So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.	So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33	But a certain Samaritan, being on a journey, came near him. And seeing him, he was moved by mercy.	But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.	But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
34	And approaching him, he bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. And setting him on his pack animal, he brought him to an inn, and he took care of him. 35	And the next day, he took out two denarii, and he gave them to the proprietor, and he said: ‘Take care of him. And whatever extra you will have spent, I will repay to you at my return.’	And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’	The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36	Which of these three, does it seem to you, was a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?”	Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”	“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37	Then he said, “The one who acted with mercy toward him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go, and act similarly.”	He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”	The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
38	Now it happened that, while they were traveling, he entered into a certain town. And a certain woman, named Martha, received him into her home.	Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.	As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
39	And she had a sister, named Mary, who, while sitting beside the Lord’s feet, was listening to his word.	And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.	She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
40	Now Martha was continually busying herself with serving. And she stood still and said: “Lord, is it not a concern to you that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, speak to her, so that she may help me.”	But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”	But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41	And the Lord responded by saying to her: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled over many things.	But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,	“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
42	And yet only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the best portion, and it shall not be taken away from her.”	but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”	but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
