1 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, Jacob, and formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine. But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through waters, I will be with you; through rivers, you shall not be swept away. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, nor will flames consume you. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I, the LORD, am your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior. I give Egypt as ransom for you, Ethiopia and Seba in exchange for you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.
4 Because you are precious in my eyes and honored, and I love you, I give people in return for you and nations in exchange for your life. Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life. Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
5 Fear not, for I am with you; from the east I will bring back your offspring, from the west I will gather you. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.
6 I will say to the north: Give them up! and to the south: Do not hold them! Bring back my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth: I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
7 All who are called by my name I created for my glory; I formed them, made them. everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
8 Lead out the people, blind though they have eyes, deaf though they have ears. Bring out the people who are blind, yet have eyes, who are deaf, yet have ears! Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.
9 Let all the nations gather together, let the peoples assemble! Who among them could have declared this, or announced to us the earlier things? Let them produce witnesses to prove themselves right, that one may hear and say, “It is true!” All the nations gather together, and the peoples assemble. 10 You are my witnesses —oracle of the LORD— my servant whom I have chosen To know and believe in me and understand that I am he. 12 It is I who declared, who saved, who announced, not some strange god among you; You are my witnesses—oracle of the LORD. I am God, I declared and saved and proclaimed, when there was no strange god among you; and you are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and I am God. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.
13 yes, from eternity I am he; There is none who can deliver from my hand: I act and who can cancel it? Also henceforth I am he; there is none who can deliver from my hand; I work, and who can turn it back?” Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”
14 Thus says the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I send to Babylon; I will bring down all her defenses, and the Chaldeans shall cry out in lamentation. Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I send to Babylon and bring them all down as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships in which they rejoice. This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, in the ships in which they took pride.
15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King. I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.” I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator, your King.”
16 Thus says the LORD, who opens a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, This is what the LORD says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
17 Who leads out chariots and horsemen, a powerful army, Till they lie prostrate together, never to rise, snuffed out, quenched like a wick. who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 Remember not the events of the past, the things of long ago consider not; “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? In the wilderness I make a way, in the wasteland, rivers. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
20 Wild beasts honor me, jackals and ostriches, For I put water in the wilderness and rivers in the wasteland for my chosen people to drink, The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,
21 The people whom I formed for myself, that they might recount my praise. the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise. the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.
22 Yet you did not call upon me, Jacob, for you grew weary of me, Israel. “Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob; but you have been weary of me, O Israel! “Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel.
23 You did not bring me sheep for your burnt offerings, nor honor me with your sacrifices. I did not exact from you the service of offerings, nor weary you for frankincense. You have not brought me your sheep for burnt offerings, or honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, or wearied you with frankincense. 24 You did not buy me sweet cane, nor did you fill me with the fat of your sacrifices; Instead, you burdened me with your sins, wearied me with your crimes. You have not bought me sweet cane with money, or satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins; you have wearied me with your iniquities. You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me, or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses.
25 It is I, I, who wipe out, for my own sake, your offenses; your sins I remember no more. “I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.
26 Would you have me remember, have us come to trial? Speak up, prove your innocence! Put me in remembrance; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right. Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence.
27 Your first father sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me Your first father sinned, and your mediators transgressed against me. Your first father sinned; those I sent to teach you rebelled against me.
28 Till I repudiated the holy princes, put Jacob under the ban, exposed Israel to scorn. Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary, and deliver Jacob to utter destruction and Israel to reviling. So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple; I consigned Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.
