1 But certain persons who had come down from Judaea tried to convince the brethren, saying, "Unless you are circumcised in accordance with the Mosaic custom, you cannot be saved." But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” Certain people came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: “Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.”
2 Between these new comers and Paul and Barnabas there was no little disagreement and controversy, until at last it was decided that Paul and Barnabas and some other brethren should go up to consult the Apostles and Elders in Jerusalem on this matter. And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question. This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question.
3 So they set out, being accompanied for a short distance by some other members of the Church; and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told the whole story of the conversion of the Gentiles and inspired all the brethren with great joy. So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers. The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the believers very glad.
4 Upon their arrival in Jerusalem they were cordially received by the Church, the Apostles, and the Elders; and they reported in detail all that God, working with them, had done. When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they declared all that God had done with them. 8 And God, who knows all hearts, gave His testimony in their favour by bestowing the Holy Spirit on them just as He did on us; And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.
9 and He made no difference between us and them, in that He cleansed their hearts by their faith. and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.
10 Now, therefore, why try an experiment upon God, by laying on the necks of these disciples a yoke which neither our forefathers nor we have been able to bear? Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?
11 On the contrary, we believe that it is by the grace of the Lord Jesus that we, as well as they, shall be saved." But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.” No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
12 Then the whole assembly remained silent while they listened to the statement made by Paul and Barnabas as to all the signs and marvels that God had done among the Gentiles through their instrumentality. And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.
13 When they had finished speaking, James said, "Brethren, listen to me. After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me. When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me.
14 Symeon has related how God first looked graciously on the Gentiles to take from among them a People to be called by His name. 15 And this is in harmony with the language of the Prophets, which says: And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written, The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:

Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will set it up again; “‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, “’After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. 17 In order that the rest of mankind may earnestly seek the Lord--even all the nations which are called by My name," that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things’ —

19 "My judgement, therefore, is against inflicting unexpected annoyance on those of the Gentiles who are turning to God. 20 Yet let us send them written instructions to abstain from things polluted by connexion with idolatry, from fornication, from meat killed by strangling, and from blood. but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.
21 For Moses from the earliest times has had his preachers in every town, being read, as he is, Sabbath after Sabbath, in the various synagogues." For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.” For the law of Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”
22 Thereupon it was decided by the Apostles and Elders, with the approval of the whole Church, to choose suitable persons from among themselves and send them to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas. Judas, called Bar-sabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren, were selected, Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose some of their own men and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders among the believers.
23 and they took with them the following letter: "The Apostles and the elder brethren send greeting to the Gentile brethren throughout Antioch, Syria and Cilicia. with the following letter: “The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings. With them they sent the following letter: The apostles and elders, your brothers, To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia: Greetings.
24 As we have been informed that certain persons who have gone out from among us have disturbed you by their teaching and have unsettled your minds, without having received any such instructions from us; Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions, We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said.
25 we have unanimously decided to select certain men and send them to you in company with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul, it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul—
26 who have endangered their very lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who are themselves bringing you the same message by word of mouth. 29 You must abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from fornication. Keep yourselves clear of these things, and it will be well with you. 30 They, therefore, having been solemnly sent, came down to Antioch, where they called together the whole assembly and delivered the letter. So when they were sent off, they went down to Antioch, and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. 31 The people read it, and were delighted with the comfort it brought them. And when they had read it, they rejoiced because of its encouragement. The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message.
32 And Judas and Silas, being themselves also Prophets, gave them a long and encouraging talk, and strengthened them in the faith. 33 After spending some time there they received an affectionate farewell from the brethren to return to those who had sent them. 38 while Paul deemed it undesirable to have as their companion one who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone on with them to the work. 39 So there arose a serious disagreement between them, which resulted in their parting from one another, Barnabas taking Mark and setting sail for Cyprus.
