Be ye the folowers of me, euen as I am of Christe. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
I commende you brethren, that ye remember me in all thinges, and kepe the ordinaunces, as I deliuered them to you. Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you. I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.
But I wyl that ye knowe, that Christ is the head of euery man. And the man is the womans head: And God is Christes head. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
Euery man praying or prophesiyng, hauyng any thing on his head, shameth his head. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
But euery woman that prayeth or prophesieth bare headed, dishonesteth her head: For that is euen all one as yf she were shauen. but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved.
Yf the woman be not couered, let her also be shorne. Yf it be a shame for a woman to be shorne or shauen, let her couer her head. For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head.
A man ought not to couer his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glorie of God: But the woman is the glorie of the man: For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.
For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man: For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;
Neither was the man created for the womans sake: but the woman for the mans sake. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
For this cause ought the woman to haue power on her head, for the Angels sakes. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels.
Neuerthelesse, neither is the man without the woman, neither ye woman without the man, in the Lorde. Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.
For as the woman is of the man, euen so is the man by the woman, but all of God. for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.
Iudge in your selues, whether it be comely that a woman pray vnto God bare headed? Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?
Doth not nature it selfe teache you, that it is a shame for a man, yf he haue long heere? Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
But yf a woman haue long heere, it is a prayse for her: For her heere is geuen her to couer her withall. but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.
If any man lust to striue, we haue no such custome, neither the Churches of God. If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.
This I warne you of, and commende not, that ye come together, not after a better maner, but after a worse. But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse. In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.
For first of all, when ye come together in the Churche, I heare that there is dissention among you, and I partly beleue it. For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part, In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.
For there must be sectes among you, that they which are approued among you, myght be knowen. for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized. No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God’s approval.
When ye come together therfore into one place, you can not eate the Lordes supper: When you come together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat. So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat,
For euery one preuenteth other, in eatyng his owne supper. And one is hungry, and another is drunken. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, another gets drunk. for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk.
Haue ye not houses to eate & to drynke in? Despise ye the Churche of God, and shame them that haue not? What shall I say vnto you, shall I prayse you in this, I prayse you not. What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not. Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God by humiliating those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? Certainly not in this matter!
That which I deliuered vnto you, I receaued of the Lorde. For the Lord Iesus, the same nyght in the which he was betrayed, toke bread: For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
And when he had geuen thankes, he brake it, and sayde: Take ye and eate, this is my body which is broke for you: This do ye in the remembraunce of me. and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
After the same maner also he toke the cup, when he had supped, saying: This cup is the newe testament in my blood: This do as oft as ye drynke it, in remembraunce of me. In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
For as often as ye shal eate this bread, and drynke this cup, ye shall shewe the Lordes death tyll he come. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Wherfore, whosoeuer shall eate this bread, and drynke this cup of the Lorde vnworthyly, shalbe gyltie of the body and blood of the Lorde. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
But let a man examine hym selfe, and so let hym eate of this bread, and drinke of this cuppe: Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.
For he that eateth and drynketh vnworthyly, eateth and drynketh his owne dampnation, because he maketh no difference of the Lordes body. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
For this cause many are weake and sicke among you, and many slepe. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
For yf we woulde iudge our selues, we shoulde not be iudged. But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.
But when we are iudged, we are chastened of the Lorde, that we shoulde not be dampned with the worlde. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.
Wherfore my brethren, when ye come together to eate, tary one for another. So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another— So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together.
If any man hunger, let hym eate at home, that ye come not together vnto condempnation. Other thynges wyll I set in order when I come. if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home—so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other things I will give directions when I come. Anyone who is hungry should eat something at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
