| 1Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. | 1For the music director; according to the tune of "Lilies;" by David. Deliver me, O God, for the water has reached my neck. |
| 2Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me. | 2I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; I am in deep water, and the current overpowers me. |
| 3I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me. | 3I am exhausted from shouting for help; my throat is sore; my eyes grow tired of looking for my God. |
| 4Those who hate me without cause outnumber the hairs on my head. Many enemies try to destroy me with lies, demanding that I give back what I didn’t steal. | 4Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head. | 13But I keep praying to you, LORD, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation. | 13O LORD, may you hear my prayer and be favorably disposed to me! O God, because of your great loyal love, answer me with your faithful deliverance! |

| 19You know of my shame, scorn, and disgrace. You see all that my enemies are doing. | 19You know how I am insulted, humiliated and disgraced; you can see all my enemies. |
| 20Their insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. If only one person would show some pity; if only one would turn and comfort me. | 20Their insults are painful and make me lose heart; I look for sympathy, but receive none, for comforters, but find none. |
| 21But instead, they give me poison for food; they offer me sour wine for my thirst. | 21They put bitter poison into my food, and to quench my thirst they give me vinegar to drink. |
| 22Let the bountiful table set before them become a snare and their prosperity become a trap. | 22May their dining table become a trap before them! May it be a snare for that group of friends! |
| 23Let their eyes go blind so they cannot see, and make their bodies shake continually. | 23May their eyes be blinded! Make them shake violently! |
| 24Pour out your fury on them; consume them with your burning anger. | 24Pour out your judgment on them! May your raging anger overtake them! |
| 25Let their homes become desolate and their tents be deserted. | 25May their camp become desolate, their tents uninhabited! |
| 26To the one you have punished, they add insult to injury; they add to the pain of those you have hurt. | 26For they harass the one whom you discipline; they spread the news about the suffering of those whom you punish. |
| 27Pile their sins up high, and don’t let them go free. | 27Hold them accountable for all their sins! Do not vindicate them! |
| 28Erase their names from the Book of Life; don’t let them be counted among the righteous. | 28May their names be deleted from the scroll of the living! Do not let their names be listed with the godly! |
| 29I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power. | 29I am oppressed and suffering! O God, deliver and protect me! |
| 30Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving. | 30I will sing praises to God's name! I will magnify him as I give him thanks! |
| 31For this will please the LORD more than sacrificing cattle, more than presenting a bull with its horns and hooves. | 31That will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hooves. |

| 34Praise him, O heaven and earth, the seas and all that move in them. | 34Let the heavens and the earth praise him, along with the seas and everything that swims in them! |
| 35For God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there and settle in their own land. | 35For God will deliver Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah, and his people will again live in them and possess Zion. |
| 36The descendants of those who obey him will inherit the land, and those who love him will live there in safety. | 36The descendants of his servants will inherit it, and those who are loyal to him will live in it. |
