Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:1Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,3seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.4For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,
to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,6and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,
to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.7and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.9For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;
for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.11for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.
Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,13I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder,
knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.14knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.16For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased "--
And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.18and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;19So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,
for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
