But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.1Now, this is what the LORD says, the one who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: "Don't be afraid, for I will protect you. I call you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.2When you pass through the waters, I am with you; when you pass through the streams, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not harm you.
For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.3For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your deliverer. I have handed over Egypt as a ransom price, Ethiopia and Seba in place of you.
Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.4Since you are precious and special in my sight, and I love you, I will hand over people in place of you, nations in place of your life.
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.5Don't be afraid, for I am with you. From the east I will bring your descendants; from the west I will gather you.
I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth--6I will say to the north, 'Hand them over!' and to the south, 'Don't hold any back!' Bring my sons from distant lands, and my daughters from the remote regions of the earth,
everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."7everyone who belongs to me, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed--yes, whom I made!
Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.8Bring out the people who are blind, even though they have eyes, those who are deaf, even though they have ears!
All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Which of their gods foretold this and proclaimed to us the former things? Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right, so that others may hear and say, "It is true."9All nations gather together, the peoples assemble. Who among them announced this? Who predicted earlier events for us? Let them produce their witnesses to testify they were right; let them listen and affirm, 'It is true.'
"You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.10You are my witnesses," says the LORD, "my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe in me, and understand that I am he. No god was formed before me, and none will outlive me.
I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.11I, I am the LORD, and there is no deliverer besides me.
I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-- I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God.12I decreed and delivered and proclaimed, and there was no other god among you. You are my witnesses," says the LORD, "that I am God.
Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?"13From this day forward I am he; no one can deliver from my power; I will act, and who can prevent it?"
This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, in the ships in which they took pride.14This is what the LORD says, your protector, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I send to Babylon and make them all fugitives, turning the Babylonians' joyful shouts into mourning songs.
I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel's Creator, your King."15I am the LORD, your Holy One, the one who created Israel, your king."
This is what the LORD says-- he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,16This is what the LORD says, the one who made a road through the sea, a pathway through the surging waters,
who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:17the one who led chariots and horses to destruction, together with a mighty army. They fell down, never to rise again; they were extinguished, put out like a burning wick:
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.18"Don't remember these earlier events; don't recall these former events.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.19"Look, I am about to do something new. Now it begins to happen! Do you not recognize it? Yes, I will make a road in the desert and paths in the wilderness.
The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,20The wild animals of the desert honor me, the jackals and ostriches, because I put water in the desert and streams in the wilderness, to quench the thirst of my chosen people,
the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.21the people whom I formed for myself, so they might praise me."
"Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel.22"But you did not call for me, O Jacob; you did not long for me, O Israel.
You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands for incense.23You did not bring me lambs for your burnt offerings; you did not honor me with your sacrifices. I did not burden you with offerings; I did not make you weary by demanding incense.
You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me, or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses.24You did not buy me aromatic reeds; you did not present to me the fat of your sacrifices. Yet you burdened me with your sins; you made me weary with your evil deeds.
"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.25I, I am the one who blots out your rebellious deeds for my sake; your sins I do not remember.
Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence.26Remind me of what happened! Let's debate! You, prove to me that you are right!
Your first father sinned; those I sent to teach you rebelled against me.27The father of your nation sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me.
So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple; I consigned Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.28So I defiled your holy princes, and handed Jacob over to destruction, and subjected Israel to humiliating abuse."
