1When Israel left Egypt, when the family of Jacob left a foreign nation behind, 1בְּצֵ֣את יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם בֵּ֥ית יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב מֵעַ֥ם לֹעֵֽז׃
2Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his kingdom. 2הָיְתָ֣ה יְהוּדָ֣ה לְקָדְשׁ֑וֹ יִ֝שְׂרָאֵ֗ל מַמְשְׁלוֹתָֽיו׃
3The sea looked and fled; the Jordan River turned back. 3הַיָּ֣ם רָ֭אָה וַיָּנֹ֑ס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן יִסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃
4The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. 4הֶֽ֭הָרִים רָקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃
5Why do you flee, O sea? Why do you turn back, O Jordan River? 5מַה־ לְּךָ֣ הַ֭יָּם כִּ֣י תָנ֑וּס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן תִּסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃
6Why do you skip like rams, O mountains, like lambs, O hills? 6הֶֽ֭הָרִים תִּרְקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃
7Tremble, O earth, before the Lord--before the God of Jacob, 7מִלִּפְנֵ֣י אָ֭דוֹן ח֣וּלִי אָ֑רֶץ מִ֝לִּפְנֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יַעֲקֹֽב׃
8who turned a rock into a pool of water, a hard rock into springs of water! 8הַהֹפְכִ֣י הַצּ֣וּר אֲגַם־ מָ֑יִם חַ֝לָּמִ֗ישׁ לְמַעְיְנוֹ־ מָֽיִם׃
