covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. | 2He wraps himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, |
He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; | 3laying the beams of his palace on the waters above, making the clouds his chariot, walking on the wings of the wind, |
he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. | 4and making the winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. |
He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. | 5He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken. |
You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. | 6You covered it with the deep as if it were a garment; the water stood above the mountains. |
At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. | 7At your rebuke the water fled; at the sound of your thunder they hurried away-- |
The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them. | 8mountains rose and valleys sank--to the place you established for them. |
You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. | 9You set a boundary they cannot cross; they will never cover the earth again. |
You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; | 10He causes the springs to gush into the valleys; they flow between the mountains. |
they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. | 11They supply water for every wild beast; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. | 12The birds of the sky live beside the springs; they make their voices heard among the foliage. |
From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work. | 13He waters the mountains from his palace; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of your labor. |
You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth | 14He causes grass to grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, producing food from the earth, |
and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man’s heart. | 15wine that makes human hearts glad--making his face shine with oil--and bread that sustains human hearts. |
The trees of the LORD are watered abundantly, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. | 16The trees of the LORD flourish, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. |
In them the birds build their nests; the stork has her home in the fir trees. | 17There the birds make their nests; storks make their homes in the pine trees. |
The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers. | 18The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for hyraxes. |
He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. | 19He made the moon to mark the festivals; the sun knows when to set. |
You make darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep about. | 20You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals stir. |
The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God. | 21The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. |
When the sun rises, they steal away and lie down in their dens. | 22The sun rises; they go back and lie down in their dens. |
Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening. | 23Man goes out to his work and to his labor until evening. |
O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. | 24How countless are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. |
Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. | 25Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number--living things both large and small. |
There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it. | 26There the ships move about, and Leviathan, which you formed to play there. |
These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. | 27All of them wait for you to give them their food at the right time. |
When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. | 28When you give it to them, they gather it; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. |
When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. | 29When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. |
When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. | 30When you send your breath, they are created, and you renew the surface of the ground. |
May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works, | 31May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works. |
who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! | 32He looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they pour out smoke. |
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. | 33I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live. |
May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. | 34May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the LORD. |
Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more! Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD! | 35May sinners vanish from the earth and wicked people be no more. My soul, bless the LORD! Hallelujah! |
