Greetings to the Thessalonians
(1 Thessalonians 1:1–10)

1 Παῦλος (Paul) καὶ (and) Σιλουανὸς (Silvanus) καὶ (and) Τιμόθεος (Timothy)

Τῇ (To the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church) Θεσσαλονικέων (of the Thessalonians) ἐν (in) Θεῷ (God) Πατρὶ (the Father) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Κυρίῳ (the Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστῷ (Christ)·

2 Χάρις (Grace) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God) Πατρὸς (the Father) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Κυρίου (the Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

3 Εὐχαριστεῖν (To thank) ὀφείλομεν (we ought) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you⁺), ἀδελφοί (brothers), καθὼς (just as) ἄξιόν (worthy) ἐστιν (it is), ὅτι (because) ὑπεραυξάνει (is growing exceedingly) ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) καὶ (and) πλεονάζει (is increasing) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) ἑνὸς (of one) ἑκάστου (each) πάντων (of all) ὑμῶν (you⁺) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another), 4 ὥστε (so as for) αὐτοὺς (ourselves) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you⁺) ἐνκαυχᾶσθαι (to boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὑπὲρ (for) τῆς (the) ὑπομονῆς (endurance) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) καὶ (and) πίστεως (faith) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (the) διωγμοῖς (persecutions) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) καὶ (and) ταῖς (in the) θλίψεσιν (tribulations) αἷς (that) ἀνέχεσθε (you⁺ are bearing), 5 Ἔνδειγμα (a plain token) τῆς (of the) δικαίας (righteous) κρίσεως (judgment) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) καταξιωθῆναι (to be counted worthy) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὑπὲρ (for) ἧς (which) καὶ (also) πάσχετε (you⁺ suffer),

Christ’s Coming

6 εἴπερ (For indeed) δίκαιον (it is righteous) παρὰ (with) Θεῷ (God) ἀνταποδοῦναι (to repay) τοῖς (those) θλίβουσιν (oppressing) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) θλῖψιν (with tribulation) 7 καὶ (and) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) τοῖς (-) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed) ἄνεσιν (relief) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us), ἐν (at) τῇ (the) ἀποκαλύψει (revelation) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) μετ’ (with) ἀγγέλων (angels) δυνάμεως (of the power) αὐτοῦ (of Him) 8 ἐν (in) πυρὶ (a fire) φλογός (of flame), διδόντος (giving) ἐκδίκησιν (vengeance) τοῖς (on those) μὴ (not) εἰδόσιν (knowing) Θεὸν (God) καὶ (and) τοῖς (on those) μὴ (not) ὑπακούουσιν (obeying) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), 9 οἵτινες (who) δίκην (the penalty) τίσουσιν (will pay) ὄλεθρον (of destruction) αἰώνιον (eternal) ἀπὸ (away from) προσώπου (the presence) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) τῆς (of the) ἰσχύος (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him), 10 ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (He shall come) ἐνδοξασθῆναι (to be glorified) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἁγίοις (saints) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) θαυμασθῆναι (to be marveled at) ἐν (among) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (those) πιστεύσασιν (having believed), ὅτι (because) ἐπιστεύθη (was believed) τὸ (the) μαρτύριον (testimony) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐφ’ (to) ὑμᾶς (you⁺), ἐν (in) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ἐκείνῃ (that).

11 Εἰς (for) ὃ (this) καὶ (also) προσευχόμεθα (we pray) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (for) ὑμῶν (you⁺), ἵνα (that) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) ἀξιώσῃ (may count worthy) τῆς (of the) κλήσεως (calling) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) πληρώσῃ (may fulfill) πᾶσαν (every) εὐδοκίαν (good pleasure) ἀγαθωσύνης (of goodness) καὶ (and) ἔργον (work) πίστεως (of faith) ἐν (in) δυνάμει (power), 12 ὅπως (so that) ἐνδοξασθῇ (may be glorified) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you⁺), καὶ (and) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) χάριν (grace) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Κυρίου (of the Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).
