To the overseer upon the lilies; to David. Save me, O God, for the waters came even to the soul. Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.
I sank in mire of depth, and no standing: I came into depths of waters and the floods overwhelmed me. I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.
I was wearied in my calling, my throat was dried up: mine eyes failed waiting for my God. I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God. I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.
Those hating me were many above the hairs of my head: mine enemies destroying me by falsehood were strong: then I will turn back what I plucked not away. More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore? Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal.
O God, thou knewest for my folly, and my faults were not hid from thee. O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you. You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.
They waiting for thee shall not be ashamed for me: O Lord Jehovah of armies, they shall not be disgraced for me, seeking thee, O God of Israel. Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.
Because for thee I bare reproach: shame covered my face. For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face. For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.
I was polluted to my brethren, and a stranger to my mother's sons. I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons. I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;
For the zeal of thy house devoured me, and the reproaches of those reproaching thee fell upon me. For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me. for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
And I will weep with fasting of my soul, and it will be for reproaches to me. When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach. When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;
And I will give my clothing sackcloth, and I for a parable to them. When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me.
They sitting in the gate will speak against me, and I was but the music of stringed instruments, of strong drink. I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me. Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
And I, my prayer is to thee, O Jehovah, a time of acceptance: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy answer me, in the truth of thy salvation. But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness. But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.
Deliver me from the mire and I shall not sink: I shall be delivered from those hating me, and from the depths of waters. Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.
The streams of water shall not overflow me, and the depth shall not swallow me down, and the well shall not close upon me her mouth. Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O Jehovah, for good is thy mercy: according to the multitude of thy compassions turn to me. Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me. Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.
And thou wilt not hide thy face from thy servant; for straits are to me: hasten to answer me. Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me. Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
Draw near to my soul, redeem it: ransom me on account of mine enemies. Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies! Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes.
Thou knewest my reproach and my shame, and my disgrace: all mine adversaries are before thee. You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you. You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.
Reproach broke my heart, and I shall be ill at ease: and I shall hope for comforting, and none; and for those consoling, and I found not. Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
And they will give my food poison, and for my thirst they will give me vinegar to drink. They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink. They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.
Their table shall be before them for a snare, for a retribution, for a cause of ruin. Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap. May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.
Their eyes shall be darkened from seeing, and cause their loins to waver always. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.
Pour out upon them thy wrath, and the burning of thins anger shall overtake then). Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them. Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.
Their fortress shall be desolated, and in their tents there shall none be dwelling. May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents. May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.
For whom thou didst strike they pursued; and they will relate to the pain of thy wounded. For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded. For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.
Thou wilt give iniquity to their iniquity, and they shall not come into thy justice. Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you. Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation.
They shall be wiped off from the book of the living, and with the just they shall not be written. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous. May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.
And I am poor and dejected: and thy salvation, O God, shall set me up on high. But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high! But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me.
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with praise. I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
And it shall be good to Jehovah above an ox, a bullock shooting out horns and hoofs, This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves.
The poor saw, they shall be glad: and seeking Jehovah your heart shall live. When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live!
For Jehovah heard to the needy, and he despised not his hound. For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners. The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.
The heavens shall praise him, and the earth, the sea, and every creeping thing in it. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them,
For God will save Zion, and he will build the cities of Judah, and they shall dwell there and inherit it. For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it; for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it;
And the seed of his servants shall inherit it, and they loving his name shall dwell in it. the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it. the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
