SAVE me, O God; for the waters are come near to engulf me. Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire where there is no footing; I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.
I am weary of my crying; my throat is dry; mine eyes fail while I wait for God. I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God. I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.
They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty; then I restored that which I took lawfully. More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore? Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal.
O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you. You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.
Let not them that trust in thee be ashamed through me, O LORD God of hosts; let not those that seek thee be dishonored through me, O God of Israel. Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.
Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face. For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face. For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.
I am become a stranger to my brethren and an alien to my mother's children. I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons. I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;
For the zeal of thy house has made me courageous; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me. for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
When I humbled and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach. When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach. When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;
I made sackcloth also my garment and I became a proverb to them. When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me.
They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards. I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me. Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of thy mercy answer me, in the abundance of thy salvation, But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness. But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.
Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the well shut its mouth upon me. Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies. Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me. Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble; answer me speedily. Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me. Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
Draw near to my soul, and redeem it; deliver me because of mine enemies. Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies! Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes.
Thou knowest my reproach and my shame, and my dishonour is spread before all mine adversaries. You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you. You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.
O thou, heal my broken heart and bind it; I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
They gave me bitter herbs for my food; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink. They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.
Let their table become a snare before them; and that which should have been for their reward, let it become a trap. Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap. May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their backs continually to bend. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.
Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them. Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them. Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.
Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents. May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.
The one which thou hast smitten, they have persecuted; they have added to the grief of him who is wounded. For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded. For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.
Add punishment of iniquity to their iniquity, that they may enter not into thy righteousness. Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you. Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation.
Let them be blotted out of thy book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous. May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.
But I am poor and sorrowful; let thy salvation help me, O God. But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high! But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me.
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
This shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that has horns and hoofs. This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves.
The humble shall see this and be glad; and your heart shall live that seek God. When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live!
For the LORD hears the poor, and despises not his prisoners. For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners. The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.
Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moves therein. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them,
For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah; For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it; for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it;
His servants shall dwell in it and shall inherit it; they that love his name shall dwell therein. the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it. the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
