Deliver me, God, because the waters are up to my neck. Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.
I am sinking in deep mire, and there is no solid ground. I have come into deep water, and the flood overwhelms me. I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.
I am exhausted from calling for help. My throat is parched. My eyes are strained from looking for God. I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God. I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.
Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head. My persecutors are mighty, and they want to destroy me. Must I be forced to return what I did not steal? More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore? Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal.
God, you know my sins, and my guilt is not hidden from you. O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you. You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.
Do not let those who look up to you be ashamed because of me, Lord God of the Heavenly Armies. Let not those who seek you be humiliated because of me, God of Israel. Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.
I am being mocked because of you. Dishonor overwhelms me. For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face. For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.
I am a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's sons. I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons. I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;
Zeal for your house consumes me, and the mockeries of those who insult you fall on me. For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me. for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
I weep and fast, and I am mocked for it. When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach. When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;
When I dressed in sackcloth, I became an object of gossip among them. When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me.
The prominent people mock me, composing drinking songs. I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me. Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
As for me, LORD, may my prayer to you come at a favorable time. God, in the abundance of your gracious love, answer me with your sure deliverance. But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness. But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.
Rescue me from the mud and do not let me sink. Rescue me from those who hate me, and from the deep waters. Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.
Let neither the floodwaters overwhelm me nor let the deep swallow me up, nor the mouth of the well close over me. Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, LORD, for your gracious love is good; Turn to me in keeping with your great compassion, Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me. Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.
and do not ignore your servant, because I am in distress. Hurry to answer me! Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me. Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
Draw near and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies. Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies! Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes.
Truly you know my reproach, shame, and disgrace. All my enemies are known to you. You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you. You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.
Insults broke my heart. I despaired and looked for sympathy; but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
They put poison in my food, in my thirst they forced me to drink vinegar. They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink. They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.
May their dining tables entrap them, and become a snare for their allies. Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap. May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.
May their eyes be blinded and may their bodies tremble continuously. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.
May you pour out your fury on them. May your burning anger overtake them. Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them. Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.
May their camp become desolate and their tents remain unoccupied. May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents. May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.
For they persecute those whom you have struck, and they brag about the pain of those you have wounded. For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded. For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.
May you punish them for their crimes; may they receive no verdict of innocence from you. Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you. Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation.
May they be erased from the Book of Life, and their names not be written with the righteous. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous. May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.
As for me, I am afflicted and hurting; may your deliverance, God, establish me on high. But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high! But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me.
Let me praise the name of God with a song that I may magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
That will please the LORD more than oxen and bulls with horns and hooves. This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves.
The afflicted will watch and rejoice. May you who seek God take courage. When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live!
For the LORD listens to the needy and doesn't despise those in bondage. For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners. The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.
Let the heavens and earth praise him, along with the sea and its swarming creatures. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them,
For God will deliver Zion and will rebuild the cities of Judah so they may live there and possess them. For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it; for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it;
The descendants of his servants will inherit it, and those who cherish his name will live there. the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it. the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
