[For the choir director; according to [shoshannim]; by David.] Save me, O God! The water is already up to my neck! Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. For the director of music. To the tune of “Lilies.” Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.
I am sinking in deep mud. There is nothing to stand on. I am in deep water. A flood is sweeping me away. I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.
I am exhausted from crying for help. My throat is hoarse. My eyes are strained [from] looking for my God. I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God. I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.
Those who hate me for no reason outnumber the hairs on my head. Those who want to destroy me are mighty. They have no reason to be my enemies. I am forced to pay back what I did not steal. More in number than the hairs of my head are those who hate me without cause; mighty are those who would destroy me, those who attack me with lies. What I did not steal must I now restore? Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal.
O God, you know my stupidity, and the things of which I am guilty are not hidden from you. O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you. You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.
Do not let those who wait with hope for you be put to shame because of me, O Almighty LORD of Armies. Do not let those who come to you for help be humiliated because of me, O God of Israel. Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me, O Lord GOD of hosts; let not those who seek you be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel. Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.
Indeed, for your sake I have endured insults. Humiliation has covered my face. For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face. For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.
I have become a stranger to my [own] brothers, a foreigner to my mother's sons. I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons. I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;
Indeed, devotion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me. for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
I cried and fasted, but I was insulted for it. When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach. When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;
I dressed myself in sackcloth, but I became the object of ridicule. When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them. when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me.
Those who sit at the gate gossip about me, and drunkards make up songs about me. I am the talk of those who sit in the gate, and the drunkards make songs about me. Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
May my prayer come to you at an acceptable time, O LORD. O God, out of the greatness of your mercy, answer me with the truth of your salvation. But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness. But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.
Rescue me from the mud. Do not let me sink [into it]. I want to be rescued from those who hate me and from the deep water. Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.
Do not let floodwaters sweep me away. Do not let the ocean swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O LORD, because your mercy is good. Out of your unlimited compassion, turn to me. Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me. Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.
I am in trouble, so do not hide your face from me. Answer me quickly! Hide not your face from your servant, for I am in distress; make haste to answer me. Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
Come close, and defend my soul. Set me free because of my enemies. Draw near to my soul, redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies! Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes.
You know that I have been insulted, put to shame, and humiliated. All my opponents are in front of you. You know my reproach, and my shame and my dishonor; my foes are all known to you. You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.
Insults have broken my heart, and I am sick. I looked for sympathy, but there was none. I looked for people to comfort me, but I found no one. Reproaches have broken my heart, so that I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.
They poisoned my food, and when I was thirsty, they gave me vinegar to drink. They gave me poison for food, and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink. They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.
Let the table set for them become a trap and a snare for their friends. Let their own table before them become a snare; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap. May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.
Let their vision become clouded so that they cannot see. Let their thighs continually shake. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see, and make their loins tremble continually. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.
Pour your rage on them. Let your burning anger catch up with them. Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your burning anger overtake them. Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.
Let their camp be deserted and their tents empty. May their camp be a desolation; let no one dwell in their tents. May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.
They persecute the one you have struck, and they talk about the pain of those you have wounded. For they persecute him whom you have struck down, and they recount the pain of those you have wounded. For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.
Charge them with one crime after another. Do not let them be found innocent. Add to them punishment upon punishment; may they have no acquittal from you. Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation.
Let their [names] be erased from the Book of Life. Do not let them be listed with righteous people. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; let them not be enrolled among the righteous. May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.
I am suffering and in pain. Let your saving power protect me, O God. But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high! But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me.
I want to praise the name of God with a song. I want to praise its greatness with a song of thanksgiving. I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the LORD more than [sacrificing] an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. This will please the LORD more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves.
Oppressed people will see [this] and rejoice. May the hearts of those who look to God for help be refreshed. When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live!
The LORD listens to needy people. He does not despise his own who are in prison. For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners. The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.
Let heaven and earth, the seas, and everything that moves in them, praise him. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them,
When God saves Zion, he will rebuild the cities of Judah. His servants will live there and take possession of it. For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it; for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it;
The descendants of his servants will inherit it. Those who love him will live there. the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it. the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
