2	“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat bread.”	“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.”	“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”
3	He answered them, “Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?	He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?	Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
4	For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’	For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’	For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’
5	But you say, ‘Whoever may tell his father or his mother, “Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,”	But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”	But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’
6	he shall not honor his father or mother.’ You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.	he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.	they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
7	You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,	You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:	You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
8	‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.	“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;	“’These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
9	And they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.’”	in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”	They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’”
10	He summoned the multitude, and said to them, “Hear, and understand.	And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand:	Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand.
11	That which enters into the mouth doesn’t defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”	it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”	What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
12	Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”	Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”	Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”
13	But he answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted.	He answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up.	He replied, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots.
14	Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”	Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”	Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”
15	Peter answered him, “Explain the parable to us.”	But Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.”	Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”
16	So Jesus said, “Do you also still not understand?	And he said, “Are you also still without understanding?	“Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them.
17	Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly and then out of the body?	Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled?	“Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?
18	But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.	But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.	But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
19	For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.	For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.	For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
20	These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn’t defile the man.”	These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”	These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”
21	Jesus went out from there and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.	And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.	Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22	Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!”	And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”	A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”
23	But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.”	But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.”	Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
24	But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”	He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”	He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
25	But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.”	But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.”	The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
26	But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”	And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”	He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
27	But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”	She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”	“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
28	Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.	Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.	Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
29	Jesus departed from there and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up on the mountain and sat there.	Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there.	Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down.
30	Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,	And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them,	Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.
31	so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, the injured healed, the lame walking, and the blind seeing—and they glorified the God of Israel.	so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. 32	Jesus summoned his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have continued with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way.”	Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”	Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”
33	The disciples said to him, “Where could we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?”	And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?”	His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”
34	Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”	And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”	“How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”
35	He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;	And directing the crowd to sit down on the ground,	He told the crowd to sit down on the ground.
36	and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.	he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
