9 “Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins. Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts—
10 Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed. no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food. no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.
11 “Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town. And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. 12 When you enter the home, give it your blessing. As you enter the house, greet it. As you enter the home, give it your greeting.
13 If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you.
14 If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave. And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.
15 I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day. Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
16 “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves. “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
17 But beware! For you will be handed over to the courts and will be flogged with whips in the synagogues. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues.
18 You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me. and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.
19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say,
20 For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21 “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
22 And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved. and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
23 When you are persecuted in one town, flee to the next. I tell you the truth, the Son of Man will return before you have reached all the towns of Israel. When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 24 “Students are not greater than their teacher, and slaves are not greater than their master. “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.
25 Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names! It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
26 “But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.
27 What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear! What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.
28 “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
29 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.
30 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
32 “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
34 “Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword. “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 ‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
40 “Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me. “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.
41 If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.
42 And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
