1	After this, Jesus traveled throughout Galilee. He did not want to travel in Judea, because the Jews there were trying to kill Him.	After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.	After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
2	However, the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near.	Now the Jews’ Feast of Booths was at hand.	But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near,
3	So Jesus’ brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go to Judea, so that Your disciples there may see the works You are doing.	So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, that your disciples also may see the works you are doing.	Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do.
4	For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world.”	For no one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.”	No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.”
5	For even His own brothers did not believe in Him.	For not even his brothers believed in him.	For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
6	Therefore Jesus told them, “Although your time is always at hand, My time has not yet come.	Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here.	Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do.

8	Go up to the feast on your own. I am not yet going up to this feast, because My time has not yet come.”	You go up to the feast. 9	Having said this to them, Jesus remained in Galilee.	After saying this, he remained in Galilee.	After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.
10	But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, He also went—not publicly, but in secret.	But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly but in private.	However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.
11	So the Jews were looking for Him at the feast and asking, “Where is He?”	The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, “Where is he?”	Now at the festival the Jewish leaders were watching for Jesus and asking, “Where is he?”
12	Many in the crowds were whispering about Him. Some said, “He is a good man.” But others replied, “No, He deceives the people.”	And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.”	Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.”
13	Yet no one would speak publicly about Him for fear of the Jews.	Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.	But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.
14	About halfway through the feast, Jesus went up to the temple courts and began to teach.	About the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching.	Not until halfway through the festival did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.
15	The Jews were amazed and asked, “How did this man attain such learning without having studied?”	The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?”	The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”
16	“My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied. “It comes from Him who sent Me.	So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.	Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.
17	If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.	If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.	Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.
18	He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a man of truth; in Him there is no falsehood.	The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.	Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
19	Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps it. Why are you trying to kill Me?”	Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?”	Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”
20	“You have a demon,” the crowd replied. “Who is trying to kill You?”	The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?”	“You are demon-possessed,” the crowd answered. “Who is trying to kill you?”
21	Jesus answered them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed.	Jesus answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel at it.	Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed.
22	But because Moses gave you circumcision, you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath (not that it is from Moses, but from the patriarchs.)	Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.	Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath.
23	If a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses will not be broken, why are you angry with Me for making the whole man well on the Sabbath?	If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man’s whole body well?	Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath?
24	Stop judging by outward appearances, and start judging justly.”	Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”	Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”
25	Then some of the people of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?	Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill?	At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?
26	Yet here He is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying anything to Him. Have the rulers truly recognized that this is the Christ?	And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ?	Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Messiah?
27	But we know where this man is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from.”	But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.”	But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”
28	Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “You know Me, and you know where I am from. I have not come of My own accord, but He who sent Me is true. You do not know Him,	So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know.	Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him,
29	but I know Him, because I am from Him and He sent Me.”	I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.”	but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.”
30	So they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.	So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.	At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
31	Many in the crowd, however, believed in Him and said, “When the Christ comes, will He perform more signs than this man?”	Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man?”
32	When the Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Jesus, they and the chief priests sent officers to arrest Him.	The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.	The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.
33	So Jesus said, “I am with you only a little while longer, and then I am going to the One who sent Me.	Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me.	Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me.
34	You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”	You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.”	You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
35	At this, the Jews said to one another, “Where does He intend to go that we will not find Him? Will He go where the Jews are dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?	The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?	The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
36	What does He mean by saying, ‘You will look for Me, but you will not find Me,’ and, ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”	What does he mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”	What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
37	On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.	On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.	On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.
38	Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘Streams of living water will flow from within him.’”	Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”	Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
39	He was speaking about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. For the Holy Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.	Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.	By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40	On hearing these words, many of the people therefore said, “This is truly the Prophet.”	When they heard these words, some of the people said, “This really is the Prophet.”	On hearing his words, some of the people said, “Surely this man is the Prophet.”
41	Others declared, “This is the Christ.” But still others asked, “How can the Christ come from Galilee?	Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee?	Others said, “He is the Messiah.” Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee?
42	Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Christ will come from the line of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?”	Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”	Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”
43	So there was division in the crowd because of Jesus.	So there was a division among the people over him.	Thus the people were divided because of Jesus.
44	Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him.	Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.	Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.
45	Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring Him in?”	The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him?”	Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring him in?”
46	“Never has anyone spoken like this man!” the officers answered.	The officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this man!”	“No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.
47	“Have you also been deceived?” replied the Pharisees.	The Pharisees answered them, “Have you also been deceived?	“You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted.
48	“Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?	Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?	“Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?
49	But this crowd that does not know the law—they are under a curse.”	But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”	No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law—there is a curse on them.”
50	Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus by night and who himself was one of them, asked,	Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them,	Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked,
51	“Does our law convict a man without first hearing from him to determine what he has done?”	“Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?”	“Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
52	“Aren’t you also from Galilee?” they replied. “Look into it, and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.”	They replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”	They replied, “Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”
53	Then each went to his own home.	[[They went each to his own house,	Then they all went home,
