4	ἐγείρεται ἐκ τοῦ δείπνου καὶ τίθησιν τὰ ἱμάτια καὶ λαβὼν λέντιον διέζωσεν ἑαυτόν	rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist.	so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
5	εἶτα βάλλει ὕδωρ εἰς τὸν νιπτῆρα καὶ ἤρξατο νίπτειν τοὺς πόδας τῶν μαθητῶν καὶ ἐκμάσσειν τῷ λεντίῳ ᾧ ἦν διεζωσμένος	Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6	Ἔρχεται οὖν πρὸς Σίμωνα Πέτρον λέγει αὐτῷ Κύριε σύ μου νίπτεις τοὺς πόδας	He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”	He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7	Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ὃ ἐγὼ ποιῶ σὺ οὐκ οἶδας ἄρτι γνώσῃ δὲ μετὰ ταῦτα	Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”	Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
8	Λέγει αὐτῷ Πέτρος Οὐ μὴ νίψῃς μου τοὺς πόδας εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς αὐτῷ Ἐὰν μὴ νίψω σε οὐκ ἔχεις μέρος μετ’ ἐμοῦ	Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”	“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
9	Λέγει αὐτῷ Σίμων Πέτρος Κύριε μὴ τοὺς πόδας μου μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τὴν κεφαλήν	Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”	“Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10	Λέγει αὐτῷ ‹ὁ› Ἰησοῦς Ὁ λελουμένος οὐκ ἔχει χρείαν εἰ μὴ τοὺς πόδας νίψασθαι ἀλλ’ ἔστιν καθαρὸς ὅλος καὶ ὑμεῖς καθαροί ἐστε ἀλλ’ οὐχὶ πάντες	Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”	Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”
