Ἦν Ἀνδρέας ὁ ἀδελφὸς Σίμωνος Πέτρου εἷς ἐκ τῶν δύο τῶν ἀκουσάντων παρὰ Ἰωάννου καὶ ἀκολουθησάντων αὐτῷ One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
εὑρίσκει οὗτος πρῶτον τὸν ἀδελφὸν τὸν ἴδιον Σίμωνα καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ Εὑρήκαμεν τὸν Μεσσίαν ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον Χριστός He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).
Τῇ ἐπαύριον ἠθέλησεν ἐξελθεῖν εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν καὶ εὑρίσκει Φίλιππον καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Ἀκολούθει μοι The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”
ἦν δὲ ὁ Φίλιππος ἀπὸ Βηθσαϊδά ἐκ τῆς πόλεως Ἀνδρέου καὶ Πέτρου Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.
Εὑρίσκει Φίλιππος τὸν Ναθαναὴλ καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ Ὃν ἔγραψεν Μωϋσῆς ἐν τῷ νόμῳ καὶ οἱ προφῆται εὑρήκαμεν Ἰησοῦν υἱὸν τοῦ Ἰωσὴφ τὸν ἀπὸ Ναζαρέτ Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ναθαναήλ Ἐκ Ναζαρὲτ δύναταί τι ἀγαθὸν εἶναι Λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Φίλιππος Ἔρχου καὶ ἴδε Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.
Εἶδεν ‹ὁ› Ἰησοῦς τὸν Ναθαναὴλ ἐρχόμενον πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ λέγει περὶ αὐτοῦ Ἴδε ἀληθῶς Ἰσραηλίτης ἐν ᾧ δόλος οὐκ ἔστιν Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
Λέγει αὐτῷ Ναθαναήλ Πόθεν με γινώσκεις Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Πρὸ τοῦ σε Φίλιππον φωνῆσαι ὄντα ὑπὸ τὴν συκῆν εἶδόν σε Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ Ναθαναήλ Ῥαββί σὺ εἶ ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ σὺ Βασιλεὺς εἶ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ὅτι εἶπόν σοι ὅτι εἶδόν σε ὑποκάτω τῆς συκῆς πιστεύεις μείζω τούτων ὄψῃ Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.”
καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὄψεσθε τὸν οὐρανὸν ἀνεῳγότα καὶ τοὺς ἀγγέλους τοῦ Θεοῦ ἀναβαίνοντας καὶ καταβαίνοντας ἐπὶ τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”
