1	Ah! Those who enact unjust statutes, who write oppressive decrees,	Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression,	Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,
2	Depriving the needy of judgment, robbing my people’s poor of justice, Making widows their plunder, and orphans their prey!	to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!	to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.
3	What will you do on the day of punishment, when the storm comes from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth,	What will you do on the day of punishment, in the ruin that will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your wealth?	What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?
4	Lest it sink beneath the captive or fall beneath the slain? For all this, his wrath is not turned back, his hand is still outstretched!	Nothing remains but to crouch among the prisoners or fall among the slain. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still.	Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.
5	Ah! Assyria, the rod of my wrath, the staff I wield in anger.	Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury!	“Woe to the Assyrian, the rod of my anger, in whose hand is the club of my wrath!
6	Against an impious nation I send him, and against a people under my wrath I order him To seize plunder, carry off loot, and to trample them like the mud of the street.	Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.	I send him against a godless nation, I dispatch him against a people who anger me, to seize loot and snatch plunder, and to trample them down like mud in the streets.
7	But this is not what he intends, nor does he have this in mind; Rather, it is in his heart to destroy, to make an end of not a few nations.	But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few;	But this is not what he intends, this is not what he has in mind; his purpose is to destroy, to put an end to many nations.
8	For he says, “Are not my commanders all kings?”	for he says: “Are not my commanders all kings?	Are not my commanders all kings?’ he says.
9	“Is not Calno like Carchemish, Or Hamath like Arpad, or Samaria like Damascus?	Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?	Has not Kalno fared like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad, and Samaria like Damascus?
10	Just as my hand reached out to idolatrous kingdoms that had more images than Jerusalem and Samaria—	As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,	As my hand seized the kingdoms of the idols, kingdoms whose images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria—
11	Just as I treated Samaria and her idols, shall I not do to Jerusalem and her graven images?”	shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her images?”	shall I not deal with Jerusalem and her images as I dealt with Samaria and her idols?’”
12	But when the LORD has brought to an end all his work on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, I will punish the utterance of the king of Assyria’s proud heart, and the boastfulness of his haughty eyes.	When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.	When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, “I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.
13	For he says: “By my own power I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I am shrewd. I have moved the boundaries of peoples, their treasures I have pillaged, and, like a mighty one, I have brought down the enthroned.	For he says: “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding; I remove the boundaries of peoples, and plunder their treasures; like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.	For he says: “’By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their kings.
14	My hand has seized, like a nest, the wealth of nations. As one takes eggs left alone, so I took in all the earth; No one fluttered a wing, or opened a mouth, or chirped!”	My hand has found like a nest the wealth of the peoples; and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken, so I have gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing or opened the mouth or chirped.”	As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations; as people gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries; not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp.’”
15	Will the ax boast against the one who hews with it? Will the saw exalt itself above the one who wields it? As if a rod could sway the one who lifts it, or a staff could lift the one who is not wood!	Shall the axe boast over him who hews with it, or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield him who lifts it, or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!	Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!
16	Therefore the Lord, the LORD of hosts, will send leanness among his fat ones, And under his glory there will be a kindling like the kindling of fire.	Therefore the Lord GOD of hosts will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors, and under his glory a burning will be kindled, like the burning of fire.	Therefore, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.
17	The Light of Israel will become a fire, the Holy One, a flame, That burns and consumes its briers and its thorns in a single day.	The light of Israel will become a fire, and his Holy One a flame, and it will burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day.	The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame; in a single day it will burn and consume his thorns and his briers.
18	And the glory of its forests and orchards will be consumed, soul and body, and it will be like a sick man who wastes away.	The glory of his forest and of his fruitful land the LORD will destroy, both soul and body, and it will be as when a sick man wastes away.	The splendor of his forests and fertile fields it will completely destroy, as when a sick person wastes away.
19	And the remnant of the trees in his forest will be so few, that any child can record them.	The remnant of the trees of his forest will be so few that a child can write them down.	And the remaining trees of his forests will be so few that a child could write them down.
20	On that day The remnant of Israel, the survivors of the house of Jacob, will no more lean upon the one who struck them; But they will lean upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.	In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.	In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
21	A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.	A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.	A remnant will return, a remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God.
22	Though your people, O Israel, were like the sand of the sea, Only a remnant of them will return; their destruction is decreed, as overflowing justice demands.	For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.	Though your people be like the sand by the sea, Israel, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overwhelming and righteous.
23	For the Lord, the GOD of hosts, is about to carry out the destruction decreed in the midst of the whole land.	For the Lord GOD of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in the midst of all the earth.	The Lord, the LORD Almighty, will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land.
24	Therefore thus says the Lord, the GOD of hosts: My people, who dwell in Zion, do not fear the Assyrian, though he strikes you with a rod, and raises his staff against you as did the Egyptians.	Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: “O my people, who dwell in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrians when they strike with the rod and lift up their staff against you as the Egyptians did.	Therefore this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty, says: “My people who live in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians, who beat you with a rod and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did.
25	For just a brief moment more, and my wrath shall be over, and my anger shall be set for their destruction.	For in a very little while my fury will come to an end, and my anger will be directed to their destruction.	Very soon my anger against you will end and my wrath will be directed to their destruction.”
26	Then the LORD of hosts will raise against them a scourge such as struck Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the sea as he did in Egypt.	And the LORD of hosts will wield against them a whip, as when he struck Midian at the rock of Oreb. And his staff will be over the sea, and he will lift it as he did in Egypt.	The LORD Almighty will lash them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the waters, as he did in Egypt.
27	On that day, His burden shall be taken from your shoulder, and his yoke shattered from your neck.	And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.”	In that day their burden will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you have grown so fat.
28	he has reached Aiath, passed through Migron, at Michmash he has stored his supplies.	He has come to Aiath; he has passed through Migron; at Michmash he stores his baggage;	They enter Aiath; they pass through Migron; they store supplies at Mikmash.
29	He has crossed the ravine, at Geba he has camped for the night. Ramah trembles, Gibeah of Saul has fled.	they have crossed over the pass; at Geba they lodge for the night; Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul has fled.	They go over the pass, and say, “We will camp overnight at Geba.” Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul flees.
30	Cry and shriek, Bath-Gallim! Hearken, Laishah! Answer her, Anathoth!	Cry aloud, O daughter of Gallim! Give attention, O Laishah! O poor Anathoth!	Cry out, Daughter Gallim! Listen, Laishah! Poor Anathoth!
31	Madmenah is in flight, the inhabitants of Gebim seek refuge.	Madmenah is in flight; the inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.	Madmenah is in flight; the people of Gebim take cover.
32	Even today he will halt at Nob, he will shake his fist at the mount of daughter Zion, the hill of Jerusalem!	This very day he will halt at Nob; he will shake his fist at the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.	This day they will halt at Nob; they will shake their fist at the mount of Daughter Zion, at the hill of Jerusalem.
33	Now the Lord, the LORD of hosts, is about to lop off the boughs with terrible violence; The tall of stature shall be felled, and the lofty ones shall be brought low;	Behold, the Lord GOD of hosts will lop the boughs with terrifying power; the great in height will be hewn down, and the lofty will be brought low.	See, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, will lop off the boughs with great power. The lofty trees will be felled, the tall ones will be brought low.
34	He shall hack down the forest thickets with an ax, and Lebanon in its splendor shall fall.	He will cut down the thickets of the forest with an axe, and Lebanon will fall by the Majestic One.	He will cut down the forest thickets with an ax; Lebanon will fall before the Mighty One.
