Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him. He cried, “Make everyone go out from me.” So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. Joseph could no longer restrain himself in the presence of all his attendants, so he cried out, “Have everyone withdraw from me!” So no one attended him when he made himself known to his brothers. Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers.
And he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it. But his sobs were so loud that the Egyptians heard him, and so the news reached Pharaoh’s house. And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it.
And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. “I am Joseph,” he said to his brothers. “Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could give him no answer, so dumbfounded were they at him. Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.
So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. “Come closer to me,” Joseph told his brothers. When they had done so, he said: “I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt!
And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. But now do not be distressed, and do not be angry with yourselves for having sold me here. It was really for the sake of saving lives that God sent me here ahead of you. And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.
For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. The famine has been in the land for two years now, and for five more years cultivation will yield no harvest. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping.
And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. God, therefore, sent me on ahead of you to ensure for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives in an extraordinary deliverance. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
So it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. So it was not really you but God who had me come here; and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, lord of all his household, and ruler over the whole land of Egypt. “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.
Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not tarry. “Hurry back, then, to my father and tell him: ‘Thus says your son Joseph: God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me without delay. Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay.
You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children’s children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. You can settle in the region of Goshen, where you will be near me—you and your children and children’s children, your flocks and herds, and everything that you own. You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me—you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have.
There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’ I will provide for you there in the five years of famine that lie ahead, so that you and your household and all that are yours will not suffer want.’ I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’
And now your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. Surely, you can see for yourselves, and Benjamin can see for himself, that it is I who am speaking to you. “You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you.
You must tell my father of all my honor in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here.” Tell my father all about my high position in Egypt and all that you have seen. But hurry and bring my father down here.” Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”
Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck. Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept on his shoulder. Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping.
And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. After that his brothers talked with him. Joseph then kissed all his brothers and wept over them; and only then were his brothers able to talk with him. And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.
When the report was heard in Pharaoh’s house, “Joseph’s brothers have come,” it pleased Pharaoh and his servants. The news reached Pharaoh’s house: “Joseph’s brothers have come.” Pharaoh and his officials were pleased. When the news reached Pharaoh’s palace that Joseph’s brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased.
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: load your beasts and go back to the land of Canaan, So Pharaoh told Joseph: “Say to your brothers: ‘This is what you shall do: Load up your animals and go without delay to the land of Canaan. Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan,
and take your father and your households, and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat the fat of the land.’ There get your father and your households, and then come to me; I will assign you the best land in Egypt, where you will live off the fat of the land.’ and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.’
And you, Joseph, are commanded to say, ‘Do this: take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. Instruct them further: ‘Do this. Take wagons from the land of Egypt for your children and your wives and bring your father back here. “You are also directed to tell them, ‘Do this: Take some carts from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come.
Have no concern for your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’” Do not be concerned about your belongings, for the best in the whole land of Egypt shall be yours.’” Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours.’”
The sons of Israel did so: and Joseph gave them wagons, according to the command of Pharaoh, and gave them provisions for the journey. The sons of Israel acted accordingly. Joseph gave them the wagons, as Pharaoh had ordered, and he supplied them with provisions for the journey. So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded, and he also gave them provisions for their journey.
To each and all of them he gave a change of clothes, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five changes of clothes. He also gave to each of them a set of clothes, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five sets of clothes. To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five sets of clothes.
To his father he sent as follows: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and provision for his father on the journey. Moreover, what he sent to his father was ten donkeys loaded with the finest products of Egypt and another ten loaded with grain and bread and provisions for his father’s journey. And this is what he sent to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey.
Then he sent his brothers away, and as they departed, he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way.” As he sent his brothers on their way, he told them, “Do not quarrel on the way.” Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”
So they went up out of Egypt and came to the land of Canaan to their father Jacob. So they went up from Egypt and came to the land of Canaan, to their father Jacob. So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan.
And they told him, “Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.” And his heart became numb, for he did not believe them. When they told him, “Joseph is still alive—in fact, it is he who is governing all the land of Egypt,” he was unmoved, for he did not believe them. They told him, “Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt.” Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them.
But when they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. But when they recounted to him all that Joseph had told them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to transport him, the spirit of their father Jacob came to life. But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived.
And Israel said, “It is enough; Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.” “Enough,” said Israel. “My son Joseph is still alive! I must go and see him before I die.” And Israel said, “I’m convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
